  1. @dburne may I ask what kind of missions you play in DCS? You’ve been VRing for years, I trust your opinion. I do regret saying “in our life time” I’ve spent too much time reading Hoggit.
  2. Aren’t we kinda always at least a bit cpu limited? MT has been a great help but when I play Liberation I still have to use some pretty heavy culling. Is MT going to be improved (in our lifetime )? or is there wriggle room with quad view in future? Is there a tipping point with objects? I know this would be cpu dependant, what I suppose I mean is, is it fine as long as the scene isn’t mental busy? PS just curious, yet to even receive my QP.
  3. No worries, it ain’t easy keeping up with all this stuff.
  4. Thanks for clearing that up, so many terms it’s easy to get confused. Fantastic news about ASW too, I’m warming up my right index finger, gonna be using it to hit the buy button tonight.
  5. Ah ok, I thought that was FFR (fixed foveated rendering) and DFR (Dynamic Foveated Rendering) is tracking where your eyes are? If one is using DFR/Quad View does one have to use open XR? I ask because I really don’t like the motion smoothing in open XR where as the Oculus version is pretty good.
  6. Ahh, ok. Thanks dburne. I really appreciate your answering my questions on stuff I’m sure you guys all squared away months ago.
  7. Oh fantastic, I will do so this evening. Thank you mbucchia, I’ve been out the loop for a bit, but from what I can gather we all owe you many many beers. Thank you.
  8. Thanks dburne, it sounds great but would I be correct in thinking the Aero’s camera is a bit more capable than the one in the QP? Do you see any down sides/compromises? Yeah, I like to play Liberation so it had me wondering if I’d be swapping one problem for another. Mostly I’m gpu bound (trying to keep it at 90fps) still and have a few cpu ms to play with. As long as I can maintain refresh rate once airborne I’m happy. Thanks recoilfx.
  9. I was about to order a QP yesterday, but I thought I’d read through this thread first as DFR is one of the main draws for me (can’t see the Q3 being able to do this). To be honest I still can’t believe we have DFR now, it was the mythical holy grail when I had my CV1. May I ask how noticeable the DFR is? By which I mean, is it completely seamless or does one have to train one’s eyes not to notice the blurry bits? Also how good is the QP’s camera at keeping up with the speed at which our eyes move? Also, I read it increases cpu frame times. Is there a ballpark number for how much (ie 2ms etc) I have a 5900X 4090 and 64gb ram. Id really like to order it tonight but I want to just make sure of a couple of things, not least because in order to get this cleared hot by my wife I’ve billed it as possibly the last VR headset I’ll ever need! (I know, I know. But by forever I actually meant the next few years )
  10. I’m regularly shocked by how much I like the Hornet, as I had zero interest in it before the DCS one came out. I much preferred the F16 but, though I still like the Viper, the Hornet is now my “plane wife”. I’m wearing a Hornet T-shirt right now. It has it all: weapons, looks, naval ops, and has the best performance in VR of any of the planes I own. Could be a touch faster and some more fuel would be nice (and I wouldn’t say no to some cbu 97s/105s) but my only real bug bear is no single Amram. I keep trying to light the flame of love for other aircraft (Harrier, F14, F16, Apache, F15E) but I always end up back home in my Hornet. The Mudhen is mighty fine looking and right up my street (AG yes please) but I can’t get a reliable 90fps in it like I Can in the Hornet.
  11. The plot thickens! I’ll be sure to do some research, thanks for the heads up.
  12. Yeah, I’d take there word for it too Think I’ll be getting the QP from Argos (got some vouchers) so handy they have the cable. Though I may shed a tear when I see the price. Thanks for the help @slughead
  13. Thanks @slughead! Sounds like a bloody winner to me. Do you have a link to the cable? No worries if not convenient I’ve just about scraped the £1k together, am I about to find out I’m gonna have to wait a bit longer? Oh, one more thing, what is the battery life with the cable? This is not something I’d even considered.
  14. After an unexpected break from DCS, I’m playing again (yay!). Apologies for hijacking your thread @j9murphy but I’m in the same boat, got a G2 but am mighty tempted by the QP as I reckon it might be the HMD for constant 90fps. It’s a wad of cash though so I too have a couple of questions. Seems daft to start a new thread but I’ll try and keep this short. PC: 4090, 5900x, 64gbRAM. In the Hornet I’m at 90fps most of the time (and as happy as a tinker) but can’t quite get there in the F15E or Viper. 9ms in the Hornet, 10-11ms in the F15E, soo close yet so far! And I can’t stand the motion smoothing of OpenXR so it’s 90 or nothing for me with the G2. (Asw on my rift/riftS was much more tolerable) So, what’s a ball park gpu frame time increase going from a G2? 80hz in the Rift S was great, 60hz in the G2 was a very unpleasant experience. Where does 72hz sit in this spectrum? Is getting it all set up (DFR etc) relatively straight forward? Free time is not something I have a lot of. Am I right in thinking I need to buy an extra cable? Thanks in advance for any info, my finger is hovering above the buy button. :) (Keeping post short = Fail)
  15. Am I giving in too soon? I only get a couple of chances to play a week. Maybe I’ll give it another go, buttery smooth frame rates are great. Though puke covered laps are not so great. Are you sure you guys haven’t been bitten by some kind of radioactive insect? I mean of all the super powers I can see why the ability to use a G2 at 60 hz didn’t make it into the latest Marvel movie, but it’s still a pretty decent power to have.
  16. Oh I envy you guys who can tolerate it. I tried it again today, and sadly I can’t stomach it. Today was the first time I’ve ever felt like throwing up whist playing DCS in VR and it only took about 5 mins. Thanks for the advice but I just can’t take it and frankly don’t ever want to feel like that again hehe.
  17. That’s good to hear, if you’d said it was fine from the start I’d give up now haha. I’ll keep at it and hope I don’t start tasting colours. Yup, I’ll be surprised if I can teach my brain to ignore it. But it’s worth a try as the perf boost is great. The Rift S was 80hz and worked great, I really liked that headset. I’m currently trying to persuade my wife I need a QP, so far she’s not convinced. Possibly too soon after the I tried the same trick with the 4090. It’s deffo worse the brighter the scene. The Tomcats light cockpit plus the bright sky is very hard to stomach, whereas in the Apache I genuinely can’t tell it’s 60hz. Thanks chaps.
  18. Righty, they are all in my Amazon basket ordered now except From the Cockpit which might need a bit more looking for than a quick Amazon search. Thanks very much
  19. Nice, thanks DD_Fenrir I’ll remember to do more research before posting in future.
  20. The Silver Spitfire goes on the list too, thanks @Skewgear I don’t want to derail this thread too much with my ever growing reading list.
  21. I’m deffo going to get a copy then, thanks @DD_Fenrir. Scramble ends with Malta, and was written a while ago (it’s a few books squashed into one isn’t it?). How odd he say’s it’s the last time he flew a Spitfire, he must of meant in the Battle of Britain I suppose. New book to buy, woop woop! Do you have any recommendations for Mossie books? I’ve nearly finished Terror in the Starboard Seat.
  22. First off, I totally agree that the cannons don’t sound right. I can’t even tell if there firing or not now. And what Tom Neil says in the above screen shot sounds like what I’d expect. But… That’s odd, in his book Scramble Tom Neil said he only flew the Spitfire a handful of times. First time was the 1st of June 1940 and the last time being 11th June 1940, after that it was Hurricanes. And from what he wrote the one he flew had 8 Brownings, ofc he probably fired the 20mm cannons in a Hurricane (right?). Intresting he managed to squeeze a book out of that, or am I thinking of a different Tom Neil? I remember being a bit disappointed when I read Scramble that he was not a Spitfire pilot. Silly me, it’s a great read. PS. Sorry, I obviously have too much spare time today
  23. Yeah, that might be me too. I was curious if the people who are fine with it were from the get go, or if it takes time to get your sea legs as it were. The rock solid frame rate is so good I’m going to give it another go, though I’ve got my eye on the QP as sounds like 72mhz might be the sweet spot.
