  1. ahhh bugger, I thought I read "next year" somewhere. Oh well there you go :)
  2. Someone please correct me if I am wrong but... BS is using a heavily modified version of the lockon engine so we can play with it and ED can make some money so they can keep making good things. To put it ultra crudely it is a stop gap measure. But...the helicopter code has been written so it can be relatively easily copied over into new engine that is due out next year. New engine will then be able to have modules added to it as time goes on. IE different choppers, planes, tanks, things that go boom etc. You will notice that the DCS logo has not only a helicopter but also a boat, plane and a tank in it. New engine would also have trees that hurt, remember lockon is pretty old but at least it gets us flying :)
  3. Personally I would prefer to wait for the new engine and pretend the trees actually mean something. I love to fly at considerably lower heights then 25 meters so that would be all bad :D
  4. I believe that is going to be fixed in the new engine next year. That be an unfortunate carry over from the lockon engine. Do you find yourself avoiding them anyway and swearing if you go thru them? :D
  5. Or you harden the ^&%$# up and turn 'em all off ;) Not realistic as such as in rl they have to be on but if you like to fly for the fun of flying then it is much more fun to turn the damn things off. They do help you fly as an auto in a car helps you shift gears, can even be faster... but a stick shift is more fun :)
  6. What about....err... or... ummm..... or... maybe microsoft (rotflmao) or...... Yeah looks like mr Amraam is right.
  7. List - long. Patience - short. So this may or may not have been posted as a suggestion...... A wind sock !
  8. Wow hasn't cut 'n' paste improved :D
  9. Lucky I looked at this thread, I didn't notice the new drivers where out until now. BTW this is what nHancer does, seems better then the nvidia control panel and easier to use for me... Feature Overview Support of Forceware/GeForce drivers version 60 and later, including the new 177+ versions Support of all GeForce cards, including the new GeForce GTX 2x0lines Supports Windows Vista and DirectX 10 Support for single card, SLI, Quad-SLI and DirectX 10 SLI systems On-the-fly control of all global quality and performance-enhancing settings for all games Create and manage fully automated profiles for all your games Very easy to use, explains all options and their effects, like Anti Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, etc. Special options for nVidia's SLI feature, allowing you to to use almost every game with SLI even if nVidia doesn't support it Offers additional Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering modes, that are not available through nVidia's control panel Allows the modification of fixed settings included in nVidia's predefined profiles. Flexible user interface: change the size of the window and all sub areas User interface and help texts available in various languages (right now English, German, Polish and Italian) Coexists perfectly with nVidia's own control panel and other tools, like aTuner or RivaTuner. nHancer will immediately detect any changes made by any other tool.
  10. I use nHancer with my 260gtx and have no problems.. http://www.nhancer.com/
  11. Once you have used it you tend not to bother with any game that doesn't support it. Well that's how I found it anyway :)
  12. Cat 101st, could this be your problem? From the FAQ http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=568719&postcount=13 Q: I am programming my HOTAS using the native profilers (i.e. not the Controls set-up in the game options) and I’m having problems adding commands with multiple keys (e.g. CTRL+C). The sim fails to recognize the modifier (i.e. CTRL). A: This is a bug in the game input system and will be corrected in the western release and a patch for the Russian release. We have provided a replacement file that should fix the issue. The replacement file has not been thoroughly tested and you will be installing it at your own risk. Before installing the replacement file, you should back-up the existing file located here: \...\bin\stable\NewInput.dll (376 Kb). Replace the existing file with the file linked below (380 Kb): http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=20031&d=1224275079
  13. No, I believe it is the lockon engine modified quite a bit for blackshark. I also believe it is only a stopgap measure until the new engine is out next year? ...or I could be wrong :)
  14. When I get to playing in "full simulation" mode (You know, helmet on, lights out, wife standing behind the chair shaking it, lighting fires and hitting me with a baseball bat from time to time) I will probably have the blue buttons of boredom engaged but that will most likely be when I get a version in a language I can understand. But until then they actually get in the way of me having the most fun I have ever had on simulated flight. Ubber Fun No1: Custom Mission. While paused click the autopilots and turn them off (It does work, just doesn't make any noise) Wind at 25mps, Turbulence at 6mps (max). The mission is to take off just high enough to raise gear and then hold position and height as well as possible for as long as possible. Then when I have had enough I drop gear and land with no damage (or lots of damage sometimes). For added fun then shut down engine and watch the wind force the blades to intersect and smash up when they slow down. Ubber hard challenge part B is to fire her up again and see just how long you can fly shaking and lurching cow before the very high probablility of virtual death (rotor hub in cockpit and blood on windows, lol nice touch!!) Watching it struggle to start up in high winds and some broken blades is just awesome, I could swear you can see the effects of the gearbox having dramas. it can "clunk" back and forwards. Truely awesome!! Ubber Fun No2: First mission in the list with the convoys. Auto's off, activate weapons system and select the cannon only, no unsporting missiles or shkval. Come screamin in over the hill as low as possible (If the gear was down I would probably hit a hummers roof) and see how many vehciles in the convoys you can destroy. In your face. I have actualy survived rolling the first 2 convoys and had a lot of fun getting what was left back to a pad and landing it. Unfortunatly the poor busted up girl couldn't extend what was left of her landing gear, rolled over on the pad and broke up but I lived (That time heh). ED, best flight sim ever. It was worth the wait :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
  15. 36-37 fps Tab out and turn on affinity..... 59-60 fps (Note v-sync limits to 60fps so potentially higher) Empty custom mission, on runway looking straight ahead. Vista 32 home premium.
  16. Sweet, nothing I am missing other then possibly making it more difficult for myself.
  17. What are these "bad habits"? Let me explain the reason I ask. Firstly I bought this game because it is the first helicopter sim I have seen that is in fact not a steaming pile of ^@ but in fact truly awesome and "feels" like I think it should. May be way out but there you go, I love it. So I figured I am going to learn to fly a heli' before I learn to fight in one. So I use the laughably easy to use mission editor to create some missions called "Free Flight" that have weather varying between dead calm to stuff that would literally destroy a real world Shark. I then started training in the calm one and practiced circuits, hover etc. All the stuff I think a real world pilot would have to do. The progressed on to the rough ones with storms, created obstacle courses and "tracks" etc. But something didn't feel quite right and then I discouvered those blue buttons. Turning them off caused and almost emidiate loss of control that I had a lot of fun recouvering from and then to me I have discouvered the "sweet spot". I absolutly love flying with all the assists off. It feels real to me now way more then it did with the autopilot controls on. I have an absolute blast flying around the cities at 250kph (mp3 cranking lol) and trying to hover and maintain position in extremely turbulent weather. Then I read the "Bad habits" bit and became concerned I am forming... well bad habits. Can anyone explain what these bad habits are? If it something as simple as making combat harder because of no computer assist then I can live with that, in fact I want that. I fly not my cpu damn it !. But maybe there is something I don't see yet?
  18. Tir4, best bit of kit I ever bought and couldn't imaging racing/flying without it now.
  19. Caution needed when "optimizing" WARNING WARNING WARNING I saw this thread from =Prophet= http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33715 about optimizing Blackshark by forcing it to use both cores and I must say.... .....don't try and be a clever SOB. I really liked the improvement that came from setting the affinity to both cores on my system (Man who wouldn't! 100% in some cases!!!) but I thought that it was a pain in the ass to do it every time. So I goggled away to find a way to do it automatically. As per usual I found a way thanks to google..... http://www.robpol86.com/pages/imagecfg.php Seemed to work except for one tiny little problem... The "protection" decided that it didn't like what I had done and yep I just smoked an activation. That's just super. ED, I truly love your sim, I have waited a long long time for someone to make a chopper sim that actually felt like a chopper and have been clicking on these forums watching and waiting for longer then I care to remember, even going to the extreme of buying a version I can't read or understand just to get some flight time before the english version comes along..... but jeeze I hate what "protects" it. I don't recall seeing anywhere to be cautious trying to optimize your system. I know it's your choice to use it and it's our choice to buy it but I don't have to like it especially when 33% of my "activations" just blew away for what I feel is a totally bs reason.
  20. Awesome, checked the performance monitor and sure enough only 1 core of my dual core maxed. Brought up task manager, set it's priority to high and affinity set to use both cores. Frame rate more then doubled at the place I am doing my benchmark. Both cores in use at around 60% So winna tip of the year:thumbup: BTW vista32 dual core 3ghz, 4gig pc800oc ram, 260 gtxoc graphics.
  21. If you knock the angle down a bit it would stay where you left as well.
  22. Thankyou Kurtz
  23. I don't know much about the rest (I run intel stuff) but I do know that your vid card was a good bang for buck card .... a year ago. I know this because I was looking for the best bang for buck exactly one year ago and I ended up with one of them. To look at it another way a year ago the 8800 gt was not the fastest but was great value for money. A year be a long time in the vid card world. Coincidentally only the day before yesterday I just ripped out the gt and threw in a gtx 260 oc for a cheaper price then I payed for the gt a year ago. That's progress. It was great a year ago.... not so good now.
  24. Hey all, first post and a topic that I may actually be able to ad to. Anyway this is a walk through of how I set up all games for track IR. I love the thing so much now I won't even play any driving/flying/sim games if they do not support trackir. I picked it up instantly in flight sims but had a bit of a learning curve in car sims for some reason but like I said I could not ever play without it again. Screw you mouse look! Back to the point of this post, how I use the thing.. it may help you. Make a Custome Profile First. Firstly always make sure you update it. If it doesn't work in a game it is meant to then this is the first thing you look at then slap yourself. Make sure it's running (Yah obvious but yah know) Click on the Profiles Tab. You then have basically 2 list boxes. The top one has a list of games(Title, Auto-Load Profile) it supports at the version level you have. The second list box is down the bottom, "Available Profiles". It will have stuff like DEFAULT PROFILE, FLIGHT ETC. Click on FLIGHT to highlight it, it be a sample profile. Below that you will see 4 buttons, New, Edit, Delete, Copy. Click Copy. Now check the Available Profiles box and you will see a new profile there for you called "Copy of Flight" Now left click "Copy of Flight" and then using the buttons below click "Edit" Click the "General" Tab and rename it to blackshark. OK that so it closes the box. Now go back to the top window and select the title Black Shark. To the right of that you will see there is a drop down box with "Default profile" in it. Click on that and change it to the new custom profile you have created called "Black Shark" Now thats done you should have in the top window the title "Black Shark" with a Auto-loaded profile called "Black Shark". Congrats that's a custom profile and now to make it work well. I will tell you how I set up the profiles that made it all make sense to me, others may differ but this is what I like to do. Setting it up. Double click you custom profile "Black Shark" in the available profiles window. There will be General. Motion and Hotkeys TAB's. Click motion if it is not already there for some reason. Double click Yaw in the Axis list. You should be in the curve editor. You should see 2 drop boxes at the top (Axis and Acceleration) with a graph below it. Click the Acceleration Drop box and select Linear. Notice the straight line in the graph. Now on the right of the graph you see a couple of up/down selctor thingoes. Go to the "Shift Entire Curve" one and set it for something low like 5. Don't click the position of value boxes, just the "Shift entire curve" one. The line should be nearly at the bottom now. Yeah its low but this is for a reason :) Ok now you have done that at the very bottom of the Curve editor under the graph you see a drop box.. "Copy curve to axis:", select ALL and click copy. Click ok What you have just done is to make a custom profile that had every movement set to 5 and is in a linear fashion. That means no weird curves or anything. It mean basicaly how you move your head is exactly how you head moves in game. To me this is the only way, curves don't give me intuative movment. Now on to fine tuning. I will assume blackshark is like any other game and can be tab'ed out of on the fly. You should have 2 windows still open for Trackir. The one with all the profiles and the one where you can edit the profile, particularly black shark. Now start the game and get in the chopper. Best to be landed at this point. Your head in game should be swinging around but not much (Remember low settings). Now look directly at the middle of your screen and press the center key. The default would be f12. Ok move your head around, start with just left and right. It is probably crap and you have to turn your head stupid amounts to see a full panorama. What you want to do here is to set it up so you don't have to turn your head large amounts. So Tab out and adjust JUST the Yaw curve. Double click on it and "Shift enitre curve" up a few notches. Ok it and tab back into the game. Look directly at the center of the screen and press f12 again. Now look left and right and notice the difference. Do the above again until you are happy. Do the same for Pitch and Roll. X,Y and Z I usualy bump right up so I don't actualy have to move my real body much in the chair. Some Tips: Do not wear any high vis clothing. Trackir will freek on it, same with bright lights, nice reflective things or direct sunlight behind you. Be carefull not to set the sensitivity to high. For example you have it set so you move your virtual head behond the bounds of game. I like to set it up so I almost hit the game limits moving my head comfortably and can only exceed the game limits by moving my head into an uncomfortable position. Seems to help keep it calibrated and it a much better "feel" to it. Anywhere the above should give you a good basis of where to start and more importantly a good idea of how it works so you can then set it up the way YOU like it. You may end up liking curves and stuff, who knows but now you should have a nice basis for understanding how to play with your new toy. Hope the above helps, probably long winded etc but I am so bored :joystick:
