DCS: WWII Assets Pack - B-17G Livery Competition
Helles Belle replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
The only consolation is olive drab or any fully painted aircraft looks ok. I’ve made all my specs as roughmets so they can be used as such for those that want to change the lua and such after downloading. -
I’ve now got the roughmets working by putting them in the mods section of the saved games folder, so no need to put them in the game folder. I’ve yet to do a test to see if I can run both roughmets and specs side by side successfully. I.e. so the game or other user liveries can still use specs. It’s a bit of a workaround and what I’m aiming for is to have the liveries downloaded using specs. But if the user wants they can download & install the roughmets in their saved games folder. All that should be required is a change of the lua.

Thanks for the explanation. I wish they would change it. I haven't deleted mine or will change it. Can the roughmets be put in the mod folder of the saved games folder? Yeah, deleting it is not the solution until ED remove it from the game and use roughmets. Leaving it as is for now is the only way because as you say every update will put it back. This will only frustrate those that download skins and don't delete or modify the file every time. The only solution to enter the competition is to leave the json file as is and make skins that will use it. Fortunately olive drab/matt comes out ok. Unfortunately aluminium looks rubbish grey. Yeah, I have simply used the two files b_17g_rotorblured_d.ddsfile B_17G_ROTOR_D.dds and made them whatever colour I like. Change the lua as required.

The more the merrier I say. We need as many liveries as we can get for the B-17. I won’t be sharing any screenshots until the end. Mainly because last comp my nose art was badly cut and pasted and past of as their own. I’ve completed all the following and some more. I’m just in the process of now doing the generic versions for each. Forget changing to roughmets for now. From what I’ve seen @Warlord64 has had the best solution for me. All ED need to do is change to the json file warlord has made and it fixes the supplied Game B-17 and users can make their own spec to suit. It may not be the perfect end solution but as I said it works for the time frame we have.

@NineLine what are the rule about showing the swastika? A lot of aircraft had these on display as aircraft kills. And I assume historical nose art such as that supplied with the DCS B-17 is allowed. -

Also, what rules are applied to historical nose art. Not all were PC. -

This is a must. The json file stuffs this aircraft completely. It is not worse off without it, only better. -
What do we know about the Second World War in this region?
Helles Belle replied to OnReTech's topic in DCS: Sinai Map
It’s also the area that the SAS started. For a good read, look up the book ‘The Phantom Major’ by Virginia Cowles -
Can we have a sub forum for the mosquito in liveries/skinning now there has been a liveries competition. I mean we have one for the non-existent Me262 for some reason.

Too late for the comp but it should be out on user files soon Bort numbers are selectable but the aircraft was A-NA A52-500

I saw a colour photo of popeye and the snake somewhere recently when researching 1 Sqn. I think it was a decal set for a model. It was very low res but at least it gave the colours. I’ll see if I can track it down again (but no promises). -
