IDK about real life but it works with wings down. Essentially works exactly like NWS button in the F-15.
-
It's actually the paddle switch on the stick, different than NWS. Has other functions like disengaging autopilot and I think one more thing.
-
Not really necessary to pull that many Gs in this jet. Slow speed is where this thing really earns its money in a dogfight. If you find yourself way too fast at the merge and absolutely need to max perform, holding a button for one maneuver isn't that bad.

How to setup throttle detent?
RShackleford replied to jasonstory44's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
You have to go from idle to off before going back to idle for it to register. Kind of a pain but not the worst -
At 380 knots and sea level I was able to pull 9.9Gs with the G-limiter override (poor crew chiefs having to deal with that) and with normal g-limiter 8ish Gs

Doesn't make any sense to have just 120B and not C, as far as DCS is concerned the only difference is slightly different kinematics. Maybe they updated the flight model of missiles and only had time to change the 120B, which would give it far greater performance than the current C in game until the C is updated... one can dream.
-
I would be absolutely thrilled if the hold on AIM-7 was because ED is actually fixing the missiles they said they'd fix for years.
-
No idea what you're trying to say exactly... are you implying all the missiles shot at US aircraft in the Middle East and Kosovo over the past couple decades were peace time military operations? This is definitely a COMBAT simulator... Sorry, but I don't think helicopters intercepting Cessna Caravans at the border is the intent behind DCS

To be fair, F-16 class A accidents often have to do with GLOCs. The new system in place for the autopilot to take control, roll wings level, and pull up has been a life saver in numerous instances already, which is amazing. Really healthy people (lower blood pressure) can GLOC at 4-5 Gs if they aren't straining correctly, even with the new G-suit that F-16/F-22/F-35 pilots have.

It really isn't that bad though. Media sensationalism wants you to think WW3 is about to happen but it really isn't. US and Russia have different allies yes, but you're a fool if you don't think the US told Russia exactly when and where the strike would be beforehand to avoid conflict. Russia won't give up Assad but they will allow the west to strike suspected chemical weapons plants to appease the west. That's another reason Russia isn't shooting at any cruise missiles or sending OCA flights towards fighters/bombers carrying cruise missiles. The last thing both US/UK/France or Russia wants is to be in conflict with each other, it would hurt their economy far too much for a place like Syria.

It isn't security of people's faces and names, it is security of what is displayed in the cockpit. Policy wide, it changes not only between services but also between airframes. You can find F-16 B-course videos all around but no F-15E B-course videos. Not that one is more or less classified than the other, just the communities have their own security procedures in place. F-22 does have one good b-course video though.
-
USAF security is just a lot tighter... Have some unclassified videos on my computer but at the beginning have statements "DO NOT POST ONLINE, MEANT FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY VIEWING ONLY." IDK why it can be unclassified and you can show it to people you know but not upload on the internet to show how awesome USAF fighters are to the world. I'm not going to be the one to break the rules though...

I've heard for years since basically advanced flight model for missiles first happened that it will be fixed. The missile mod does the fix pretty well even though flight profiles aren't accurate, it has some actual thrust and drag models researched and associated with it, and it is good. I'm not expecting it to be fixed ever at this point.

Some of us do know the real answer, and the AIM-120 performance in game is lacking a lot. The R-27 series is lacking a lot as well though. It's even in the way that both side's missiles suck, but it would be nice for BVR combat to be able to perform BVR tactics rather than the current launch and hope while doing 270 maneuvers to go into the merge and being shot at by everyone else. The current DCS missile state doesn't allow for any sort of launch and leave low risk tactics because the missiles just suck and require a merge with some luck behind you for any kills. An AIM-120C or R-27ER shot at 10nm should not be defeated by someone head on with you turning away right as the missile launches, yet I can chase someone down at 5nm launching AMRAAMs and all it takes for them to not get hit is weaving left and right. The missile state in DCS is very very poor, it's been complained about for many years, and there's no fix in sight.

Saudi F-15 shot down over Yemen
RShackleford replied to red_coreSix's topic in Military and Aviation
If it was above 30k', you would not see the flames coming from it nearly that easily. The jet in the new video is likely between 10-20k'. -
You don't know how much I want F-15E in this game... Air to air won't be realistic because a2a missile kinematics are bad and will never actually be corrected by ED, even with the missile mod being posted here which is far more accurate yet they won't implement it for some unknown reason. Maybe because they would have to change radar scope ranges for missiles as well and they don't have the resources to do the research for that. As it stands now, both AIM-120 and R-27ER have insanely low range in DCS for what they can do IRL. Having even the opportunity to fight in, drop bombs with set impact conditions (also require ED to implement weaponeering for bunkers and such rather than this bomb kills this target, which also will never happen), and fight out would be amazing.
-
Really need to have some drag numbers in there. 10nm from 10.6k' is an extremely long range for a gbu-12
-
You aren't going to get realistic answers in this thread unless someone wants to get a security violation... but all missiles have much larger ranges than what's modeled in game. DCS missile mod does a decent job for publicly available drag indexes and such, would suggest trying that out to see how far you can get your amraams (you can get very far launches beyond what the radar scope in game will tell you), but even that doesn't simulate the realistic flyout of them. DCS you really have to go in with a launch and decide mentality every time, IRL there might be multiple leaves of launch and leave because the ranges allow that before you have to go into a merge but here you shoot to gain an offensive advantage and hope for the best.
-
Your RCS alone is like a torch in the dark unless you're stealth (and even then, you're at least a match that every radar will eventually spot), but modern self-protection jammers usually only activate when receiving signals from radars pinging them. DRFM does a lot more than just conceal the range to a target like in DCS, it will throw out false targets and will also do all sorts of funkiness to make radars drop the lock as soon as it is attempted, stuff not modeled in DCS because the capabilities of each ECM system and how well various radars can handle them is very classified.
-
Probably not, but maybe. Definitely not useful in the traditional SEAD role but for DCS it's all we have right now. I don't even think they were ever used in combat so no real Pk record. Seems everyone is basing Pk based off historical HARM usage, which of course includes numbers that lost homing due to radars going offline, which leads me to believe they should have better performance in game. My guess is their inaccuracy is just due it being a WIP though, not designed by razbam to be bad, so can't be upset yet.
-
All those saying the Pk should be low... It is low IRL because SAM operators turn off their radars and are then no longer a threat to the aircraft. In DCS it is a low Pk while the SAMs are actively emitting and shooting missiles at you, so it doesn't make sense for them to miss at all.

Got to spend a friend's wedding sitting at a table with him. EXTREMELY humble man. I didn't even know who he was until I started talking to his wife and she introduced Mr. Pardo and herself to us. Was a fantastic time being able to spend a night with him and his wife even though we didn't talk much about the maneuver itself but about his career in the USAF and life advice. That man can be an inspiration to anyone. Shame he wasn't recognized for his heroics until decades later

This is actually good. USMC hornets are in terrible shape right now to the point where certain tail numbers are only cleared for certain mission types. No BFM or ACM in some tail numbers because they're afraid of the fatigue pushing the airframe past the limit.

Most of the basic techniques you've learned will be transferable but it will be different button presses for almost everything. Hoping for a real smart weapons page (idk if real F/A-18C has it but I would assume so) where you can set angle/velocity for impact conditions on JDAMs but that won't be hard to learn, just another thing to add to the crosscheck. Basic bomb drops will be easily transferable, doing offensive counter-air, self-escorted missions, or SEAD type mission will be the things to learn for A-10C guys going into F-18. Can start learning the basics of the first 1.5 of those right now in F-15C if you have it.
