Adding ILS to East German Airbases for Modern Scenarios

I assumed that this is how it’s done. I could imagine that in slightly worse visibility conditions such systems would be used for safety. Unfortunately im not in the Luftwaffe -
Adding ILS to East German Airbases for Modern Scenarios
JG78_horΛz replied to JG78_horΛz's topic in Wish List
It’s not about it being hard — the point is that I need it consistently in a multiplayer mission. But since we recently gained the ability to place PRMG and RSBN vehicles, I assume that ILS could become relevant soon as well. It would definitely make sense, not least because the Germany map also implements highway landing strips. -
Das vTaktLwG31 sucht neue Piloten !!!
JG78_horΛz replied to AzraelKurita's topic in General DCS Squadrons
Jagdgeschwader78 sucht neue Spieler (Casual & Turnament)

▪ Jedes Flugmuster, vorzugsweise westlich. ▪ Jedes Zeitalter, überwiegend Modern. ▪ Personalisierte Skins in unserem eigenen Modpack. ▪ Etabliertes Rottensystem. I would love to see Zeltweg AFB in Austria included on the map. To be honest, I would prefer if every country on the map had at least one major airbase, as this would likely attract more players in the long run. And perhaps the green line could be moved a bit further toward Greece.

Hi, I’m building missions with very complex trigger conditions. Many of them are no longer manageable with the click-based editor, so I want to switch as much as possible to Lua predicates. The problem: I cannot find any complete reference that lists which functions, condition types, or global objects are actually available in the Lua predicate context. Is there an official or unofficial list of what is valid inside a predicate? I’m not looking for the regular DCS scripting API, but specifically what the Mission Editor allows and evaluates inside the LUA predicate field. If no documentation exists, a short technical explanation of how the predicate environment is set up internally would already help. Thanks, Patrick

What can't we release Cold War Germany Phase 2 without?
JG78_horΛz replied to MAESTR0's topic in Wish List
Hi @MAESTR0 I would really like to suggest the inclusion of Wittmund Air Base (Fliegerhorst Wittmundhafen) in the Cold War Germany map for DCS. This air base is highly relevant for several reasons: Cold War significance: Wittmund was one of the key NATO QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) bases in Northern Germany, directly facing the Warsaw Pact airspace. Home of the F-4F Phantom II: For decades, it was the main operating base of the German Air Force’s Phantoms, which makes it extremely important for any Cold War scenario. Modern continuity: Even after the Cold War, it remained strategically important and later became the home of the Eurofighter Typhoon, underlining its lasting relevance. Mission building potential: Adding Wittmund would provide excellent opportunities for realistic QRA missions, intercept scenarios, and a better overall coverage of northern Germany. Given its history, location, and operational role, Wittmund would add a lot of immersion and authenticity to the Cold War Germany map. I strongly believe that including Wittmund would make the map more complete and allow mission builders to recreate both historical and fictional scenarios with greater accuracy. Thanks for considering this suggestion! -
Hello dear ED team, First of all, thank you so much for the amazing work you put into DCS – it truly brings a lot of joy to the community. I wanted to ask if it might be possible in the future to have a placeable ILS in the Mission Editor. We already have the option to place TACAN beacons, which is wonderful, but an ILS option would open up even more possibilities. With a configurable ILS (frequency and direction), mission creators could adapt maps to more modern scenarios – for example, setting up improvised or expeditionary airfields with instrument approaches on the Germany map. This would add a lot of immersion and realism, especially for modern aircraft operations. It’s just a humble wish, but I think many mission designers (myself included) would be very grateful. Thank you kindly for your consideration!

I understand, but unfortunately that’s a very unsatisfying solution, since everyone would have to make changes manually. -
Adding ILS to East German Airbases for Modern Scenarios
JG78_horΛz replied to JG78_horΛz's topic in Wish List
Yes, I’m aware of the beacons.lua, but as far as I know, it doesn’t allow me to host a multiplayer server. It only gives me the option to set up offline scenarios the way I need them. -
I know this might be aiming a bit high, but as they say – it doesn’t hurt to ask. I’m currently building a larger mission for myself and my squadron. Since we’re focused on a very modern setting, I’m trying to make the mission feel as modern as possible. Unfortunately, during the GDR era, there was no ILS or TACAN in East Germany, which makes creating a realistic modern scenario a bit more challenging. Here’s my main issue: Laage is an important airbase for QRA flights, and it offers some amazing potential for immersive scenarios. But without ILS, landings in poor visibility are really hard to implement. And let’s be honest – aren’t those the coolest landings? The TACAN issue is easy to solve – you can add that directly in the Mission Editor. ILS, however, seems to be impossible to add – even via scripting, at least as far as I know. My idea would be to enable ILS at the East German airbases, even if it’s not 100% historically accurate. This would greatly expand the range of possible missions. I really can’t imagine anyone being bothered by this, but for a portion of the player base, it would be an absolute game-changer. Especially with the hopefully soon-to-be-released Eurofighter, having ILS at a key QRA base like Laage would be just perfect. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this! I’d really appreciate any feedback – especially if anyone knows of a way to script ILS into the game.

Hello everyone, Unfortunately, it seems that large aircraft such as tankers, AWACS, or similar types currently cannot be placed at Wunstorf Air Base in DCS. This is somewhat inaccurate from a historical and operational perspective. Since the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) took over the airfield again in 1958, Wunstorf has continuously operated large aircraft. This includes the Noratlas N2501, followed by the Transall C-160, and today the A400M Atlas. Given this long-standing role, it would be great if Wunstorf could accommodate aircraft of this size in-game as well. Kind regards

It's just a small but clearly visible issue: in Rostock, the Unterwarnow is crossed by a tunnel that runs underneath the water. Unfortunately, the tunnel is visible, which shouldn't be the case.

Hi everyone, I would really love to see civilian airliners—similar to modern Boeings or other types from various eras—added to DCS World. They don't necessarily have to carry real-world names or branding, but having modern and historical airliner models would be extremely useful, especially for creating more immersive and realistic QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) missions. I know there are some community-made mods out there, but I would prefer not to require my mission users to download external content. Having an official, built-in (vanilla) option would be much more convenient and accessible for everyone. In my opinion, having civilian traffic in a flight simulator like DCS makes a lot of sense, both for mission variety and realism. It would be a great addition to the mission editor and open up new possibilities for both singleplayer and multiplayer scenarios. Thanks for considering this!

Thank you for the quick response. I wasn't aware that even the tail rotor is affected by VRS. I can easily imagine that I became too hasty and consequently too impatient for the RPM to normalize. I probably fly the Mi-24 too boldly. I will continue testing and appreciate your thoughts on this topic.

Wow, thank you very much for the detailed explanation and the confidence that I can understand it, as this is not physics that you grasp in passing. Regarding your second point, I have to say that I don't use any autopilot at all, so that can't be the factor. What always surprises me is that I can maintain sometimes my first hover position well, and possibly not another one, It seems very random to me.. However, payload could be an issue, as the average DCS pilot naturally has to carry huge amounts of destructive load. For me, it usually comes down to 6 missiles and 2 Stingers. Additionally, I usually only have 50% fuel with me.

I'm not entirely sure if this is a bug, but I suspect it is based on my experiences with other helicopters in DCS. When flying forward at relatively high speed, if you pull the joystick back just a little too much, the helicopter's nose will uncontrollably pitch up to such an extent that it requires a lot of effort to regain control. Besides that, performing such a maneuver can bring the helicopter to a halt so quickly that it seems very unrealistic to me. To test this, accelerate to full speed, pull the nose up sharply, and a cobra maneuver occurs, causing the aircraft to hover without changing altitude. I often notice that while hovering, even with maximum rudder input, my helicopter is unable to maintain the desired direction. Only when transitioning back to forward flight does it become possible to maintain the direction again.

I built a light and sensor panel for the F15 for myself and a few friends. Unfortunately, there is no way to assign “NAV FLIR GAIN” and “NAV FLIR LEVEL” as an axis. These are currently only available as push buttons. In addition, the “ANTI COLLISION” light can only be switched as a toggle switch. The actual “ON” and “OFF” functions are not available. Would you be kind enough to add these features to the simulation? Best regards horAz

Howdy Fragger, are you planning to equip us with Stinger? i love to pick jets out of the sky Grüße! -
Hey guys, I wanted to ask whether an A400M as an AI tanker would be possible, although I have no idea how complex it actually is to produce something like this. Many greetings JG78_horΛz
