  1. so true!
  2. Alamo 1-1 | dundun92, F-15C
  3. Yep, our interleave does not interleave PRFs afaik, it literally uses an intermediate PRF
  4. Thats how all ARH (R-77, SD-10) work, so this really isnt an AMRAAM issue. And fundamentally, thats how ARH missiles are supposed to work. The AMRAAM actually has a mode for this, the inertial active mode. To quote "Distributed Simulation Testing for Weapons System Performance of the F/A-18 and AIM-120 AMRAAM": And theres a good reason you need to support the missile, if you dont you have no guarantee it will find the correct target, it could even go after a freindly. Again, the main issue is that the scan doesnt take time. And that hopefully will be fixed at some point. But this isnt an AMRAAM/red vs blue thing, this is a limitation of ARH seekers in DCS as a whole.
  5. Yes, but it wasnt really a red/blue thing, as both planes are equally affected by ECM.
  6. No cooldown, just a 15s warmup
  7. AFAIK the 15° is for maddog AMRAAMs (VISUAL mode), not for the maximum gimbal limits in search mode, could be wrong though.
  8. INTRO Top Notch is a 1v1 BVR Tournament. This is all-out BVR jousting! DATE AND TIME This first edition of Top Notch will start at 2030z on January 2, 2021. Registration ends on January 1st. OBJECTIVES AND TOURNAMENT STYLE Each match is conducted as best of three rounds. The objective is to destroy the enemy aircraft, while remaining flightworthy. Flightworthy is defined below: Must clearly be able to sustain (relatively) straight and level flight for at least 30 seconds Must also not be out of fuel after destroying the bandit. Airframe must have AT LEAST 1 wing present (no wingless F-18s pls), if you can fly stably with one wing it is acceptable. The competition is a knockout-style competition, with players being eliminated after loosing a 3 round match. RULES Aircraft types may not be changed between rounds. All spawns are air spawns separated by 100-120nm. The competition will be run on the Caucasus Map. Fuel Tactics (indefinite running away) are not permitted. Ping limit of 300 is server-enforced. No AWACS will be present. To keep the event running smoothly, I would ask that suggestions/questions be kept until the end of the event, unless they are relevant to/will affect the remaining rounds (e.g, concerns about excessive lag/rubber banding). ECM use is not allowed More Rules TBD WEAPONS RESTRICTIONS This edition features a roughly 2000s rule set with some exceptions. The BANNED weapons are: AIM-9X, Nukes. Restricted weapons are: AIM-120 (all variants) total to 6. AIM-54 (all variants) total to 4 COMMUNICATION All players must be present on the Alamo Squadron Teamspeak (server info below) during play. IP: 73.32.85.67 PW: 5775 Questions are to be asked either in PMs, or on this thread. STREAMING AND PRIZES There is no anticipated stream as of RN. If you would want to volunteer DM me. There are no prizes, its simply for the fun of it! REGISTRATION Registration format is as follows: Player Name, Aircraft Type Note that your aircraft selection is not binding and can be changed, it is simply for reference purposes As an example Alamo 1-1 | dundun92, F-15C There will be a limit of 16 players. OTHER RESOURCES None
  9. Why would the radar not know the azimuth? When you get an RWR ping, you know the azimuth. ECM is the same thing: a radio emission from a fixed point in space. Im not doubting that some ECM modes simply flood the reciever, but it is very reasonable to expect HOJ to detect azimuth in many cases. For example, the F-15 -34 describes this very HOJ mode, the "AOJ (angle of jam)", and the symbology is exactly how it is in DCS.
  10. Thumb forward once is SuperSearch, second is boresight, rear is Vertical Scan, down is reject/return to search
  11. Except that in game it will make a difference, if you think it wont you havent flown the AMRAAM jets enough to know. Initial detection at 55nm (where it is now) gives you only about 10nm to sort, target and shoot at 40kft with optimal shot ranges around 45nm. Detection at 90nm (as it should be), gives a confortable 35nm to do the same thing. It will be a big deal. And yes I know where to look for the enemy without AWACS, its called situational awareness of where they come from. Planes dont spontaneously appear from nothing yknow...
  12. Heres the image I was looking for:
  13. some eagle squadrons did practice initially iirc, and it was tested using bombs, ill have to find the photo.
  14. If you think the F-18 JHMCS is OP (which it really isnt but thats another topic) just remove it from the mission editor, or ask the owner of your favorite server to do so. This is a RL feature of the year F-18 we have, so absolutely no, ED isnt removing it if that's what youre asking. They shouldn't either, else this wouldnt be a sim. Also, we have a 2007 F-16 NOT a 1991 one else we wouldnt have AMRAAMs on it, or L16. yes, and all of MP will ban it
  15. Care to provide a source that AIM-54 would never have been used against ER/AA-10C equipped Su-27s/MiG-29s?
  16. Do you really think the USAF put a big radar on it for no reason? And no the scan time isnt "awful" unless you are running around in 8B 120° scans. And im not sure whats so good about its current FC3 radar, its seriously underperforming. And if you have no clue where the bandits should be coming fron you probably shouldnt be fighting
  17. Yes, and perhaps I should clarify, when I mean notch I usually mean turning through the notch with chaff. In this case im turining too quickly through the notch to trash it via notching alone, but If i use chaff it goes after it almost every time
  18. Vs an AI thats horrible at missile defense, sure. Ill grant that there you may see a difference. But the AI is never a good judge of how good a missile is/isnt simply because it doesnt know how to defend properly. To give an example, close in vs the AI the 9L and 9X have the same Pk. Why? Because the AI's flare pattern is so bad, you end up with neither missile getting decoyed often. Do the same against a competent pilot, however, and things change
  19. Im not sure those ccm values for the AIM-54 did much. We did a lot of testing, and they were still super easy to notch when the ccm_k0 got reduced. Again, AIM-54s have always been easy to notch. There hasnt been a patch when AIM-54s came anywhere near AMRAAM levels of chaff rejection. Also, you are forgetting that while trhe AIM-54 got better chaff resistance it did not get the new chaff model the 120 did (which is part of the reason why it became so hard to notch, not just ccm change)
  20. Pretty sure its FOUO, so youre not likely gonna find it floating around on the web sadly. Closest youll find is the RoKAF version as LJQCN101 said, ive tried searching myself with no results (kinda as expected TBH).
  21. No, the tracking issues are seperate. The AIM-54 has always liked chaff Since when has just 2-3 USN launches been a statistically significant sample size for making any reasonable conclusion? (esp when one missed simply because of good bandit defense and not missile malfunction)
  22. Id vote yes purely because I like the F-15 as a plane. However, I also think it would be a welcome addition as it would be our only really modern dedicated BLUE air superiority platform. Hornet is multirole and horrible kinematics, Viper is OK but a) limited payload and endurance, and b) once its radar gets fixed and stops severely overperforming, it won't see stuff past 30-40nm really, which means that as a BVR platform itll be really meh. Tomcat is simply old (sorry tomcat fans), its radar while powerful simply doesnt have the ease of use of the more modern radars, and SA is an issue as well. And yes, ill grant that there really is no good red oppostition, but personally I dont mind AMRAAM vs AMRAAM/Phoenix, and again thats a whole other topic which isnt the point of this thread.
  23. it is a dice roll indeed, but its a weighted dice roll. You still need to maximize its effectiveness with proper defensive manuevering (e.g, notching). Aim-54s are really easy to defeat RN, just a few chaff in the notch and the missile is defeated. Chaff outside the notch is still a dice roll, but one that isnt in your favor
  24. Probably the most repeated myth on these forums, no the AIM-54 isnt just a anti-bomber missile and it is objectively better than the AIM-7 BVR (as in outside roughly 5nm) against fighters in almost every way...
