i remember this post...it still doesnt answer my questions though about 1 and 2 hands on the stick. i would like to get an answer about that, as in the 109, when you're flying lets say 500kph or higher, and begin to pull your joystick completely back, first not much is going to happen and the 109 goes into a "shallow" turn. but then there is the point, where the pilot seems to all of a sudden pull way harder than the first few seconds. it feels that at this point, the virtual pilot begins to use his second arm... now when this happens, the 109 begins a sharp turn, and mostly too sharp to keep that turn you wanted, so you have to reduce your pull on the stick slightly to avoid a blackout or at least a massive energy loss, ending with a stall. ...now we are still at high speeds.... if you now reduce your pull on your stick at home, even minimal, the 109 will drop its turn rate drastically down, and this feels as if the pilot decided to only need one hand again...now you only wanted to reduce that turn by a small margin, to avoid a blackout or stall, but instead the 109 goes into a "shallow" turn again... but you wanted to turn hard, so you decide to pull back on the stick again...this again seems to take sometimes several seconds until the plane turns hard... at least by the feels of it, it seems that the pilot does indeed switch between 1 and 2 hand flying on the stick in the 109....

thx for confirmation!

a k4 without mw50 doesnt make it a g version. the whole airframe is different to the g versions. also, there are g versions that used mw50, thats not a k4 only thing. a late war g version is way deadlier than a k4 without mw50. i would still fly it, though that suggestion doesnt exactly make it more ww2 authentic. btw, eekz, labels disabled again?

how is the trimwheel difficult to reach? its just where your left arm is. the design is actually pretty clever thought out, as its next to the flaps wheel, so that you can easily adjust both at the same time. multiple pilot accounts talk about using trim...the only possible discrepancy i see between those statements and dcs is that most pilot accounts say, that only very little trim change was needed to get to the desired attitude...but thats a pretty vague and statement. not precise to either say its correct or not... but one thing is for sure, to trim a plane is no cheat, thats usual business in any aircraft.

yes, there is 1 a few meters next to my work. i can watch it every day.;) yes its small...but, it has a flettner rudder, which is i think not considered in the rudder forces(at least by the sounds of Yo-Yo's previous statements), and also because of the small surface, the force should also be smaller theoretically, and therefore should be possible to deflect more at similar speeds to a bigger rudder, given the connections between pedals and rudder are identical. and there is nothing special with the 109's. of course a bigger rudder has a bigger effect at similar deflection to a smaller one. but as you mentioned, the whole 109 is small, not only the rudder. so the relative size of the rudder, is not much smaller than the 1 of the spitfire for example. the p51 has a huge rudder though!

who voted? the k4 was from the kickstarter, and i cant remember that people had a vote there about which 109 we would get. it was stated that the k4 was chosen because they had the most detailed documentation about it. and the d9 is entirely EDs choice.
-
well yeah, i read that post...but are we supposed to ask the questions here in this thread? will there be a seperate thread for it? or are the questions already determined by Yo-Yo and other ED staff, and they already decided what the most interesting questions of the community are?
-
do you already have a list of questions you are going to ask him?

burning skies server and acg server missing
birdstrike replied to DoctorVixen's topic in Multiplayer
tacview i think should not make a problem. i dont have it but i think its allowed on the server. i found the ip in the mission description, but that one is very old, so it might be that the ip is outdated... and another 3rd party module should not cause any trouble, as its still official content. 47 servers is a low number though....are you running the release version by any chance? cause the burning skies server is running on open beta. -
Are grass takeoffs/landings possible?
birdstrike replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
they are possible, and actually became way easier than they have been before they changed the frcition. before it was actually a real challenge and even the slightest drift lead to an unrecoverable accident in most cases. before they changed the friction of the tires, i actually was of the opinion, that the ground physics on paved runways were spot on, while the grass landings were too hard but still possible... to my disappointment though, instead of changing the friction of the grass-grounds, they changed the friction of the tires of the aircraft themselves. especially the one of the 109, so that it affects all surfaces, with the result that on paved runways you will now slide around by an unrealistic amount without being punished for bad techniques. grassfields on the other hand seem more or less plausible now. just focus more on avoiding any sideslip/drift on the ground and you will succeed. -
nobody complains about the continuous turn rate of the spit.

burning skies server and acg server missing
birdstrike replied to DoctorVixen's topic in Multiplayer
31.173.58.23:10308 this should be the ip for the burning skies server. at least thats in the description...its definitely online. for the acg ww2 server, that one is offline for quite some time now unfortunately. -
i know, and i dont discredit this guy at all...i said it previously, and am glad to do it again, that i have the highest respect for this man. still it doesnt mean that everything is spot on in dcs. but yeah, im glad that this guy took the lead at ED.

+1 these manouvers are tight turns that are to be expected from a spitfire. have seen this myself a couple of times, but have nothing in common with what we are talking about.
-
lol, somehow i suspected that u drift into the usual "luftwhiner" argument... ^^must be another luftwhiner as well Fenrir?
-
would love to see a video of nick grey do those rapid manouvers in a real spitfire and post it here :) yes i have 0 hours in either the spit or the 109(does nick grey have hours in the 109?) btw, do you have any hours in any plane? still what i see in dcs just doesnt add up to the real spits ive seen, and neither does it with any ww2 footage or new footage on any video platform....and this tells me that dcs put those characteristics a little over the top. yes thats my opinion. you can be of a different opinion, and thats fine with me. and unless you show me a video that convinces me that a real spit is capable of those crazy manouvers like in dcs, our opinion will remain different. live with it, no reason to attack everytime and scream 'crissakes' :smilewink:

talking about the stickforces a lot with my friends lately and reading through several former threads, i would like to get enlightend as to how the stickforces are programmed...which logic they follow if you so want to speak. i know that Yo-Yo said repeatedly, that our dcs pilot can pull a certain amount of force... but is that with 1 hand? and 1hand only all times? or is that with 2 hands? and both hands at all times? or is it a combination and the pilot begins to use his 2nd hand to push or pull harder after a certain threshold is reached? if the latter is the case, what is the logic behind it? when does our pilot start to use the 2nd hand?and when does he decide to switch back to 1hand again? and how long does it take him to use the 2nd hand again once we pull our stick again harder back? i would really like to know this!

the rudder in the 109 is astonishingly ineffective.
-
nah not harsh words...i said that the general characteristics are there...i know a real spitfire is very sensitive...but what you can do in dcs sometimes looks like something from outerspace. never seen a spit in real life or video footage(ww2 or nowadays) doing something even remotely close to what i have seen online. and what i did myself with the dcs spit. i think they put it to the extremes, both the stickforces of the spit and the 109.
-
yeah...online, in case u didnt understand  i thought thats obvious as, the AI never kept fighting with one wing...didnt matter if it lost half a wing, third of a wing or a whole wing. as soon as you put it on fire it has been bailing out immediately ever since. you have 3.500posts, i thought you know this. and thats my hole point...the AI surrenders way to quickly in comparison to what u see online, what human players do...sure thats two different things. and sure, luckily we all dont have to fear real death, so people tend to sometimes fight longer than they should .but i think the AI does give up a notch too early. and the quote u posted even supports my cause, as that pilot obviously didnt bail either and had to risk his life to bring that baby home again... i get it that u like it and thats fine...but for me thats no improvement to the actual issues we have with the AI. none whatsoever. before people were rightly complaining that the AI keeps dogfighting as if nothing had happened with smoking out of all possible holes. that it had no effect on the flight characteristics... and instead of improving this by making the AI fly less effective once damaged, they "fix" it by making the AI bail before this even happens... maybe the new damage model will indeed improve this, but right now thats a workaround that doesnt make the situation any better.

where did i say what? :music_whistling: yeah...in your view its better...in my view not, and i explained why. am i allowed? ;)
-
yeah this...well imo it looks  and is not something dcs should show in an advertisment video.
-
did this p-47 keep dogfighting? i guess not. but at least it still has 3/4th of its wings. in dcs we can observe spits not trying to go home, but keep dogfighting with 1complete wing shot off, doing all sorts of manouvers on a daily basis. and sometimes even see spits dogfighting with 0 wings. is this a bug in the FM in your view?
-
well...i dont consider it as an improvement.its not a glass full or empty thing...you can perfectly like that change, and thats good for u then :) i explained why i dont like this change. one question though...do you jump out that quickly when the AI hits u slightly? :)

crosswinds...i cant speak for thrustmaster or other high end pedals...but only because i dont even think about purchasing them...the crosswinds are just awesome. and yes, Milan has the best customer support i have ever experienced too! i purchased the f-14 because...well its an f-14...i always liked the looks of it since i was a kid... im not into jets and my usual business are the prop birds, but since i saw the videos that are popping up on youtube, i get more and more eager to actually really fly that bird, exactly for the reason of finally having a bird where rudder seems to make a difference. at least from the looks of it, it seems that heatblur finally got rudder effects right. really looking forward to see whether my assumption is correct.
