  1. Whilst I cannot speak for DCS I have played Fallout 3 on both the console version and PC version, the console version whips the ass off my PC version BIG TIME for FPS and graphics hands down. WTF is that all about?. BTW the Xbox has 3 symmetrical cores running at 3.2ghz. Which is as good as any top end PC CPU.
  2. I bought a Xbox 360 today and I'm very impressed with the performance of it. Smoother frame rates and much better graphics has converted me to give up gaming on the PC. My £150.00 Xbox has better performance than my 2K PC system (wtf?). I know alot of the hardcore simmers here are probably shuddering at this post but DCS would run much better on a 360 than most high end PC's. Since my X52 gave up the ghost I've been using a programmable Saitek P2600 gaming pad and TBH now that I've adapted to it I'm more than comfortable playing DCS with a game pad in realistic mode. I can see no reasons why ED wouldn't release a console version of DCS so I thought I'd ask will ED ever release DCS on the console?. Sorry if this has been asked before.
  3. I have a spare cable off my old X52 if you want it. You will have to pay postage. JFYI the connectors are PS2 but using an OEM PS2 cable will not work for some reason!!! I bought a 3 metre PS2 to PS2 so I could thread the wire through my wire free desk but it would not work. BTW I don't think it's the cable sounds like you got a common problem with the X52. http://www.saitekforum.com/showthread.php?t=9367 Give me a shout if you want the cable.
  4. I'm on my second X52 now and I'm getting spiking on the twist rudder (again) and I'm out of warranty now . The top rotary dial on the throttle is also spiking. The slider also randomly jumps about. I will not buy another X52 again (one bitten twice shy as they say). I'll be trying CH fighter stick next. If I had the knowledge I'd like to build my own. I think all of the well known HOTAS setups degrade eventually. I wish manafacturers would use decent mechanics and optical sensors on all axsis. If you buy an X52 you must accept that it will degrade and you will need to replace it witin a year of heavy use. My X52 doesn't have a scratch on it and looks new such a shame to have to waste it. I'd strongly advise you to get some pedals and not use the twist rudder because using the twist rudder degrades the X52 recentering quickly. I've been through 2 X52's in 16 months.
  5. Urze I like the multiscreen set ups. Now imagine you had a semi-wrap around screen and a high def projector and a Wiimote. Watch the clip's below. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nhSR_6-Y5Kg http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XgrGjJUBF_I&feature=channel
  6. Hi tflash. Thanks for replying. The F-35 has LO, AESA, HMS, EOTS, a 360 degree distributed aperture system, and a integrated ECM/EWSP system running on big proccessor's. I don't have any doubt of the capabilities of the F-35 in the A2A role but that's my opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Mr Kopp also an enemy of the F-15? The only air superiority fighter to exsist with 0 A2A losses and multiple kills?. Compare how much internal fuel the F-35 carries to the F-16 and add the internal payload with the advanced avionics that's why it appears fat. The F-35 has superiour range, acceleration and cruising height to the F-16 AFAIK.
  7. I can't remeber the version of FT I used with the VX it was at least over a year ago I tested the VX. I played about with the FT settings for the VX for sometime but I couldn't get rid of or adapt to the latency. Maybe it was me, I'm far from the most patient of people.
  8. Thanks for the reply again. To get back on thread I don't know why the F-35 is being so heavily criticised, TBH I can't find another fighter that has all the systems that the F-35 has. Can anyone else on this forum show me a fighter with the same amount of systems as the F-35?.
  9. Thanks for the replies gentlemen. In a nutshell am I correct in saying that tactically the US and Eurocanard Fighter/bombers use IRST for both A2A and A2G and the Russian's fighter/bombers use IRST for A2A only?.
  10. Out of curiousity does anyone here know the technical reason why the F-35 and most types of US fighters have the IRST sensor located on the underside of the fuselage whilst most of the Eurocanards and Russian fighters have them located on the top of the fuselage?.
  11. Gentlemen please listen to Acedy and Groove or this great thread will be closed. I refuse to get into a political discussion on TIR v's FT but I would like to add my opinion because I've used both. 1. I owned TIR3 which was very good but unfortunatley it died on me just outside of warranty but TBH I did drop it once but TIR3 still worked for months after I dropped it. 2. FT with a VX100 and Logitech quickcam webcam are unacceptable for head tracking to me. 3. FT 2.2 with a Wiimote is just as good as my old TIR3 but FT2.2 and Wiimote has 6DOF. I get a rock solid 100 FPS and tracking is just as smooth and reliable as my old TIR3. I honestly cannot say a Wiimote is as good as TIR4 because I have not used TIR4. Before you judge the Wiimote it's important to use 940 nm+ IR LED's with a Wiimote. It's also important to file the IR LED's domed head flat about 0.75-1.0mm from the element because LED's with a domed head have a 40 degree FOV.
  12. Thanks for replying Glowing Amraam. I was just making sure I understood the development time of all the DCS modules correctly. I know it takes alot of time for the Dev's to build a sim as good as BS.
  13. I'm a bit confused if each module takes 10 months to develop that means for all 8 modules to be completed it will take 6.6 years, am I understanding this correctly?.
  14. I think Kamov built the KA-50 around two things, a single pilot and a big gun. I think as well as budget problems the KA-50 as it stands is the maximum workload a single pilot can cope with effectivley in combat. Adding RWR, Radar and complex avionics to the equation wasn't even an option for a single pilot helicopter.
  15. Nice comment but there's flipside to that coin. No pilot would delibratley place themselves in that position but it can and does happen, A plan is good when it works. I agree a lock signal is bad when your in the assets WEZ but what happens when you pick up an unobserved enemy emitting a search signal or a lock signal when your outside the WEZ? your going to love having RWR then. RWR is certainly no be all and end all but IMO it's a must have. This is exactly why alot of western Helos have RWR because they can and do get picked up by enemy RF energy. Any aircraft flying "dumb" in an active warzone with no means to alert the pilot to RF guided weapons is just plain suicidal.
  16. Maybe I am. Are MBT's, armour and personell the primary targets of attack Helos?. Are MANpads, AAA and small arms still a helo magnet? Still doesn't change the fact that radar guided AAA will be invisible to any pilot without a RWR.
  17. Probably because most think RWR is more helpful than an ejection seat. Prevention is better than cure my freind. I'm sure RWR's are very sensitive to false spikes and are normally absorbed and proccessed correctly by software. Continous RF illumination will definitely alert a pilot. I also could be wrong but I think it was a funding issue, either way if I was a pilot I still wouldn't fly anything without an RWR in todays warzones.
  18. I'm not sure how reliable Soviet era RWR's are infact I'm not sure how reliable western RWR's are either because I've never used one. I'm sure most RWR's would alert the pilot to most types RF energy locking and tracking them which is very helpful against AAA and any other air defence asset that uses RF energy for weapons guidance. IMO what is really unreliable and impractical is flying blindly and ignorantly into an unseen AAA's WEZ.
  19. Without RWR?. No thanks. Certainly not against another country with more modern air defence assets. The thought that I could be locked up and fired upon by AAA with radar guidance without even knowing it would scare the crap out of me.
  20. Swingkid has pointed out it's major flaw no RWR. If I was a pilot I (personally) would not want to fly any Heli or fixed wing aircraft that doesn't have an RWR into an modern active warzone.
  21. The debreifing confirms the rock solid reputation of the Eagle. Now I understand why the Eagle has gone down in the history book as the number 1 air superiority fighter of teen fighters. I didn't know that USAF Eagles had shot down several MiG 29's in real life without a single loss :surprise:untill I read it today.
  22. I have the exact same problem everytime I look outside the cockpit. I'm sure it's a bug. I solve it by pressing the Esc key and then resuming the game.
  23. Thanks for showing those WIP pictures Chizh.
  24. Hahaha not a nice flowery thimble. I'm thinking of using a thimble like this with a touch switch located on the interiour of the fingertip. Just a tip for refrence to anybody thinking of building a "finger tracker" the Wiimote tracks 940nm + IR LED's best. With a bit of careful work I think I can mount all the electronics in the interiour of this Thimble. Quarrion I'm very, very happy with FT 2.2 and Wiimote.
  25. Good post although touch screen's are expensive you've given me a great idea. Touchscreens use an array of touch switches which would eliminate any risk of damage to your expensive LCD screen. With a 1.5v watch battery you could run a touch switch and a IR LED in something the size of an elastic sewing thimble which would fit neatly on the end of your finger.
