  1. A normal descent glide-path is 3 degrees. A Rule of Thumb - Be at 10,000 ft 30 mi. from touchdown = 333 ft/min. rate of descent on your VSI. (However it is not really practical in a normal jet operating environment with ATC and everything to descend at 333 ft/min for 30 miles.) 5,000 ft. 15 mi. from touchdown 2,500 ft. 7.5 mi. from touchdown 300 ft.(actually 333 ft) 1 mi. from touchdown Another way to calculate it is: Typical landing speed for a fairly heavy A-10C is 150 kts. 150 kts / 60 min. = 2.5 mi. per minute traveling over the ground 1000 ft above touchdown / 2.5 min. = 400 ft/min. rate of descent on your VSI.
  2. Try adjusting your seat height upward. In a real jet, if your seat is not adjusted properly, it can result in hard landings. Seat height can affect your visual cues during a landing. Also, in this sim it may help to move your view forward (zoom in) a little, sort of like moving your seat forward in a real jet. Also make sure you are on-speed.....a correct landing speed with a stabilized, fairly shallow rate of descent. Be fully configured - flaps full, gear down, and on-speed 5 miles out from touchdown.
  3. I think that it is important to have the field elevation and runway numbers (heading and length) represented on the Map as wel.
  4. I am using CH Pro Pedals, and had to invert the axis for both toe brakes within the sim controller Axis Commands menu configuration. They work fine now.
  5. Thanks for the screenshots, looking really good so far. Will you be including North Las Vegas airport as well as McCarren? Both of these airports are so close to Nellis that it seems to me they must be included, as well as downtown Vegas (The Strip). I have personally flown into both airports as a corporate pilot on many occasions. North Las Vegas has two short and narrow (5,000 ft rwys).
  6. I am suspecting a possible memory leak also. I designed a simple landing training mission in the editor. After flying the mission about 4 or 5 times I have noticed a significant decrease in frame rate, to the point it is like a slide-show.
  7. I am also trying to setup my Nvidia Profile and need to point to the game .exe to change my video card graphics settings. I am just using the sim for single player. It seems to be the simulator.exe file, correct?
  8. This did the trick....thanks! I set the wind to the direction I want it to blow toward. I set the wind to 040 at 9 m/s and now the aircraft are positioned to take-off on Rwy 22, toward the ocean. I am set up at Krasny'j Kurgan airport. At least that is the name of the nearest town. How do you tell the airport name?
  9. I set the wind speed to 10 m/s (19 kts) and it still did not affect the take-off direction. The wind is onshore, blowing from the southwest off the ocean, to the northeast. I want to take off toward the ocean (rwy 22) , not toward the mountains.
  10. Is it possible to set the take off direction in the editor? I am making a training mission to practice take off and landings, however, when starting the mission, the take off direction is opposite of my first waypoint direction. I tried setting the wind direction but that didn't make a difference.
  11. There are no training missions available for the free-fall bombs for the SU-25 or SU-25T on the FC2 website. The links do not go to videos.
  12. So, can LockOn actually be uninstalled once FC2 is installed?
  13. Trim - Pitch Oscillations Check out this thread. I have had similar issues. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=41851 Good luck.
  14. Einstein, Thanks for checking out the track. My technique for trimming is to set the pitch attitude that I want (for example 5 degrees nose up), press the trim button, release the trim button, and let my CH Fighterstick return to the center position. When I do this, I get pitch oscillations (up to 5 degrees and sometimes more), which I believe are shown in my track. At one point in the track the pitch changed at least 5 degrees after using the technique that I mentioned above. Nemisis - regarding your previous post. I have tried holding down the trim button while manuevering..however the helicopter still feels sloppy, and seems to bounce around. Controlling it does not feel crisp, like a fixed-wing airplane. Is this just the way a helicopter fly's?
  15. New Trim Here is a track with the new trimmer system enabled. I am still getting pitch oscillations, and it seems worse than when I was using the original trim system. I checked my controller settings under Options, and did not see any duplicate entries. I have CH Fighterstick and CH Pro Pedals. Neither are Force Feedback controls. New Trim.zip
  16. Thanks for your help guys. It will probably br Monday before I have a chance to check out the things you mentioned, and to post a new track.
  17. Yes, I have read the first post in this thread...several times. My track is attached. I am using the original trim system in Simulation Mode. I also edited the Producers.cfg file to False, for Force Feedback. Thanks for your help. Trim.zip
  18. Will someone please respond to my previous post in this thread...I really need some assistance with trim. Every time I release the trim button, I get pitch oscillations. I have tried the old trim system and the new one, and still have the same problem. In fact, I can't tell any difference between the two trim systems.
  19. I have watched the Producer's Notes, read the Readme files, and read posts on this forum regarding trim....however, I am still struggling to get it figured out. I am a professional corporate fixed-wing pilot, and really trying to get my head wrapped around this helo trim system. I am currently using the new trimmer mode that came with the 1.0.1 patch, and have a CH Fighterstick and CH Pro Pedals (both USB). I have a basic MAP setup in the CH Control Manager for my controls, and then programmed the various buttons, etc. within the Black Shark - Options - Menu. I am using the Simulation Mode also. I have Bank Hold, Hdg Hold, and Pitch Hold set on the autopilot, and always fly with these on. The way I use trim is as follows: If I want to climb for example, I will move my Fighterstick to set a 5 degree pitch up angle on the HUD pitch scale, then press and release the trim button, and quickly let the Fighterstick and my pedals return to their center positions. However, when using this method, I always seem to get pitch oscillations. The helo seems to bounce up and down, up to five degrees in pitch. This happens when climbing or descending. Additionally, when banking the helicopter it seems to oscillate in the horizontal as well. Flying this helicopter never feels crisp, instead it always feels sloppy when trying to maneuver. I use R-Ctrl + Enter to see whether or not my controls are in the center positon, and they seem to be centered. Am I using trim properly or is something else going on?
  20. Win 7 will have a Win XP mode. Have you guys tested this, or is it not included in the Beta? http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Windows/Why-Microsoft-Windows-7-XP-Mode-Is-a-Major-Advancement-405072/
  21. Thanks for your help. That must be it. I don't have Track IR, but am certainly thinking about getting it.
  22. Roger that Fox, I re-read your post. I guess the lesson learned is to get the helicopter on the heading you want and trimmed, before engaging Auto Hover, and don't mess around with heading changes once it is engaged. In my track I moved to a new heading to get parallel to the runway and then trimmed. When the Auto Hover disengages at 4 meters (correct ?), and the helicopter is trimmed properly it should continue it's descent and land without incident.
  23. Thanks for your input guys, sorry I didn't mention that it happened at the end of my track. I watched Wags use Auto Hover in one of his Producer's Notes to land, and he had no problem. Do you have any idea on how he was able to do it?
  24. Sorry, what is TIR?
  25. I have watched the Producer's Notes and searched this Forum for help regarding Hovering and Auto Hover. However, I am still unable to pull it off. I have included a track where I used Auto Hover, resulting in a crash. Hopefully someone can offer suggestions on what I am doing wrong. My vertical velocity was minimal and did not exceed the tolerances mentioned in the manual. Auto Hover Crash.trk
