  1. Several months ago they changed many of the external sounds for situations like a plane approaching you at Mach .99 would sound the same as 200kts then suddenly go silent as it went Mach 1.0+ This was an improvement, imho, although there are now some missing sounds even from modules I own (mig19 on idle is silent when doing fly by, external view). This might be due to early release. One thing is various companies making mods and viggen has always had very quiet engines+sonic boom that is drowned out by harrier at same distance from camera parked on idle. If all sounds were given relative volume then the only sounds in DCS wud be booms and explosions. Hard to say how they can give each sound, from waves at the coast to the nuke out mig15 a good volume in all realistic conditions (think of the coding to adjust every audio clips volume and pitch so everything can function and still be realistic). Until we all have 1000W speakers, or quantum computers, compromises have to be made on this aspect.
  2. Hi Dave, Setup the AI patrol route as normal then have it goto assigned base for landing like normal... But choose not "landing" option, but "land refuel rearm" on the usual waypoint options drop-down list. Be sure to note the "rearm time" (default 10min) Also ensure the next WP after this you set speed/height back the way you want (or it will be 270kts + 100ft AGL, almost certainly results in AI crashing into nearest obstacle!) You can also set a further waypoint to loop round to an earlier one (eg set waypoint 15 to switch to waypoint 2) which will result in the ai forever patrolling, refueling/arming until they are killed. This gets around various issues especially online where aircraft may run out of fuel before players engaged, removing a need for scripts to give unlimited fuel to AI etc. Also tankers in MP now can be recycled too. There was a bug where refuel/arm aircraft will taxi/fly in reverse after this option was used, I am gonna assume after various bug fixes since this feature was added, has been resolved.
  3. This isn't an easy answer because your issue is not preload if you are struggling to find the airfield from 3nm. Having a smaller preload isn't always good for older systems, nor always having bigger preload on high end. Its more like a trade between longer load times in return for fewer stutters in terrain loading. Now that my F14 has almost finished downloading, I suggest you change visibility to clear and viewing distance to ultra. Failing that - seek troubleshooting section
  4. Not sure if I'm missing something from the OP, but I can lock Mavericks from around 7nm in DCS (using TGP--> search/lock (point tracking) -> SOI to Mav -> sync SOI POI (lol) -> zoom in (wait until 7nm) Mav lock.
  5. I noticed the same in the day of release and absent any change, the Above advice from Tholozor is key. In addition 2 further things that will help: A) check winds B) have airbrake out by late final (needs to be held by switch ideally, or it retracts if flaps out). -- (If stopping distance is critical!) 1) turn anti-skid off. (ABS is too sensitive) 2) bind "pull parking/emergency brake handle" to hotas (Mod-bind if no free hotas switch - I use pinkylever on my stick as "modifier" so I can quickly access less common functions without letting go) 3) dump excessive stores/fuel 4) if conditions allow (stable air etc) push AoA to the max you feel comfortable with. Btw I don't care about the rules, manual says don't do this, real life pilot says that etc.. DCS is what it is, and I try get the best possible out of it without crashing etc, and even in real life, if the only way the pulpit could save his plane was to break the rules, guess what!
  6. It is as Bignewy has hinted, browsers use hardware acceleration (aka your graphics card) to do stuff, like playing videos, smooth scrolling and so forth. You could try lowering the video (within netflix browser / user settings) streaming to lowest quality/resolution possible, minimizing the web browser, and disabling hardware acceleration within your browser... You mention chrome - click on the 3 dots top right, under the red X - choose settings, scroll down and click advanced, scroll down again, and near the bottom is a checkbox (enabled by default) that says "use hardware acceleration when available" - untick. I have tinnitus myself and know how frustrating it can be at times, i find audio books or podcasts help a lot as well - plenty of free ones about. Hope these suggestions both explain why, and help resolve issue.
  7. Hi, This is a physics issue, nothing major, and hopefully easy to resolve in a future patch. It is likely something people have noticed when doing various bombing missions, especially in the harrier and F18, where straight and level flight and lazy turnarounds are not possible. I have attached an simple diagram to showcase a typical example, and this physics issue does affect all DCS modules (afaik). When flying straight/level and balanced, all is well, then if you drop a bomb off the eg right pod, the heavier loadout on the left pod, and increased air friction on the left pod, will cause a force to roll the aircraft to the left. To prevent this from happening, the pilot adds some pressure right, to the aileron controls, and the forces are cancelled and level flight can continue. (a seasoned player would likely "trim this out" if the opposite munition were not moments from being fired/dropped). (so far so good) Often when over groups of targets, certain aircrafts and terrain, inverted flight may occur to line up for another shot, evade AAA/SAM and keeping within G limits, terrain masking etcetc (here is where the issue is) If aircraft were to fly completely inverted, the right pylon that dropped the bomb, is now on the left side, and the left, heavier pylon with remaining bomb, is now on the right (relative to the direction of travel). The heavier wing (bomb), with increased drag, should now create a downwards (gravity & air friction) force, causing the aircraft to roll the opposite way (as it's inverted).... The neutral point (where the forces cancel out, without pilot input) would be somewhere close to a 90' roll, with the heavier side of the aircraft leaning appx 90' into the ground. (i get it, the exact angle would depend on centre of gravity and entire aerodynamic situation, speed, pressure etc probably too complex to be simulated in DCS, but 90' down would be an easy "close enough" solution) shared image below - the arrows indicate direction of force (roll axis only) I hope people can understand what I have attempted to describe and showcase here, my bad if not!
  8. Hi, I was just flying in the "german aerobatic ground attack" server, it's more a Coop with respawning enemy ground/air units than aerobatic,, and after ~45 mins I randomly blew up, at about 19,000ft The message said "Foxxy Trotty has killed himself" in global chat. Fair enough, a bug maybe. As i was typing in chat trying to figure out what happened, my f2 view on another player saw him blow up, again in the sky. Suddenly chat was filled with players "killing themselves" and it looked like the tail end of nibiru comet, as about 30 players proceeded to rain out of the sky, with aircraft completely destroyed, fire/smoke etc, all around the caucus map. I know mission editor side, this is easy to do, and so if the german server has some secret trigger to do this, I can't say, but it seems unlikely. What seems more likely to me is that someone (a client) was able to inject mission code into the game, something like "all players setdamage=1" interesting also was that I was in a harrier that spawns on the boat, the first slot in the list of all the players, and I was the first to explode/die. I can't tell if all other players died in order, as I wasn't thinking about that at the time, and quit after i saw everyone falling as a ruined server. I have seen people randomly die before, but assumed it was down to lag, as it was never everyone. Any ideas here? Is it possible for a client to inject mission code, anyone can write, into the MP server of someone else? Seems very suspect if that is the case, as 1 person can literally ruin the online game, short of passwording every server.
  9. Something to look up - "The Mandela Effect" (about 50% of population is effected.) Those affected recall famous starwars fight scene, darth vader says "Luke, I am your father" (its now "No, I am your father) also recall there being a polar ice cap (north pole, like antartica has ice). Also recall "my momma always said life is like a box of chocolates" in forrest gump movie (not life WAS like). also end of the queen song/we are the champions, it ended "no time for losers, coz we are the champiooooooonssss....... of the worlddddddd" (no longer of the world is there, just we are the championsssss" (the end) Kit-Kat logo (now KitKat) and ford/volvo logo changes. literally tons more, not to be confused with "updates" ie "they must of updated it". The mandela effect is a "it always was that way" and millions recall it being something else, not bad memory, as millions recall it being the "same thing" even though, apparently, it NEVER was. Twightlight zone stuff, really. There also new animals, like flying fox, snakes that glide, chickens that fly, invisible frogs, etc - look it up if you don't know it, until F18!!!
  10. that's my cat, the OP cat in this thread reminded me of her a bit. She's the most loving cat I have had, more loyal than my rescue dog, she sits/sleeps on me almost every night, and is jealus when my girlfriend comes to stay, sticks to me like glue. We physically have to shut her out *at times*
  11. its no longer bugging on the F18 module name, its now a version number bug
  12. here is the update bug sequence... 1) load up DCS (all fine) 2) update shows up over modules 3) it says F18 update (with checkbox) 4) click OK... and

  14. The International DCS Updating Society has now stopped accepting new members, after a recent swell in numbers has caused admin to suspect russian bots are registering and we apologise for any inconveniences this may have caused. In unrelated news, the F18 module has found a time-delay type bug in the update code, and the way in which the application would acquire the module, is thus still a short wait... The good news is, with schrodinger's cat and all that, we are all playing with the F18 in almost every other alternative dimension.
  15. (still pressing F5) (just a heads up folks!) Known Issues: " F/A-18C. Fly over waypoint Time on Target causes DCS crash "
  16. taking bets 5 to 1 it will be released before 1200 (UK / BST / GMT+1 / UTC +1) favourite of 3 to 1 being 1200-14300 (same timezone) the prize will be a free trip to bragging rights central
