F-14 A/B feature follow-up, wish list and beyond
Naquaii replied to scommander2's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
1. No, there's still more work to do that needs help from ED, I don't really have an update on that. 2. Not something I can or will talk about, I'm not the one deciding those kinds of things, I'm just the one of the researchers/SMEs. If you're gonna assume there's something going on every time there's no news all the time then you're going to be disappointed. It's always been the case that there are updates when there are updates, for some reason people started expecting much more detailed and frequent updates when the F-4E was nearing completion, that's really something the community invented. If you look back at earlier releases this isn't something that has changed. Going around and assuming stuff isn't progressing just because there isn't constant and frequent updates just isn't constructive, I can promise you jumping up and down and screaming "are we there yet?" won't change anything. The truth is that as long as you hear nothing else you can assume that it's being worked on and when there's something to share it'll be shared. -

The earlier F-14A is still in the pipe, it's more or less the major reason for the F-14 being in EA still. Not sure why people think that would change or why people are expecting updates or even release of these things just after the major release and push that the F-4E was. Back to back releases of major stuff like that from the 3rd parties have never been a thing in DCS. -
The USN Phantoms had slightly different pylons so they could do some stuff the USAF ones couldn't. They didn't need the special weapons adapter for a lot of the stuff the F-4E needed it for. That's why you can have three bombs and two AIM-9s like that.

Even if it's the same hook as on the navy variants the different gear setup etc makes it different. Trapping like on a carrier just wasn't a consideration as they used it for emergency braking only really, kinda just running over the wire on the ground like you described when taxiing. So it's no wonder really if you have to experiment a bit with it to trap reliably.

And with all due respect we're also not asking you as users to keep track of this. We're not asking you to look through all the bug reports, if you at a first glance can't find it then report it. No-ones going to blame anyone for a double report, if it is then it is so, no big deal. I know Cobra and Ironmike have plans for something like this so it might happen. But for now it's not public and you're just going to have to trust us that we keep track of the reports. Making your own list won't change this. Like I said you're free to do so but don't expect us to use it over our own lists and adding it as an abstraction layer between the users and us is not a good idea. -

We don't have a public ticket system like ED has, like I've mentioned we have an internal to the team. The central point you're talking about for reports are the bug reports section here and on the Discord. We track all reports posted there so if you can't find anything there's it's likely new. There's no public place to view all those tickets as it's not a public system. -

The problem is that you're basically creating a separate form of tracking bugs and feature proposals that's out of our control. You're free to do so for your own sake but please understand that we have our own internal trackers that we do this stuff in and where we enter all stuff reported both in the bugs section here and on the Discord. If users find bugs or want to report feedback we ask them to post that in the appropriate official places, i.e. the bug reports section on this forum or the equivalent on the Discord. If you compile your own list you basically create an additional layer between us and the user reporting it, and if you then report them to us you risk creating creating copies of a lot of the already reported stuff as well as unintentionally obfuscating the report by becoming an unnecessary middle part to all this. But like I said, I'm not going to stop you from having your own list but I ask you guys to please report any found bugs or feedback directly to us, not to this list and then to us. This is not an official list and not something we'll commit to follow. -

All bugs reported are eventually entered into our tracker. I don't know the exact timeline but the plan is ofc to get back to both the AJS-37 and F-14 and finish them up. -

That's because neither of those are bug trackers, so they can't not be up to date. It's two locations that allow the users to report bugs with the Discord one now being the most active as that's where most of the discussions now take place. The tracker itself is internal to the team and not public. Like I said, you're ofc free to do your own lists as long as it's clear that it's not official and that users understand that reporting bugs should be done mainly using the existing ways so that they're registered properly by us. -

Just keep in mind that this is your list, not the one the devs use for tracking bugs so only having them here might mean that they are missed. In general it still applies that if you can't find the bug already reported it's probably not. And at this point it's probably the Discord bug reports that are the most up to date. -

If the bugs aren't reported absolutely. But just dumping that whole section over there isn't that helpful if the bugs in it are already reported. It's probably better if the guys who find them report them themselves. I just don't want this thread to trick anyone into thinking that this is an official wish-list and bug report thread. -

I just want to remind you guys that if you find new bugs, please make bug reports on the Discord or in the bug forum here. If you only add this to your own todo list they might be missed by the guys handling bug feedback and reports. -

The lights were the wrong color at first, that's why they're green in the manual. They are caution lights and should thus be yellow. And no, they shouldn't be on when the systems are engaged. The NWS ENGA light is on when the NWS is on as it's a caution for the pilot to know that it is just that, on. The caution lights for the auto throttle and ACLS/AP are the other way around as those are systems that can disengage without pilot action, which the pilot needs to know if that happens. The slight trim change in the stabilators with air brake is modelled iirc, it's just very minor and hard to see. -

Exactly as what we've said multiple times previously. -

Not for me to share, as in not my decision. But sufficive to say, there is one. -
The speed brakes should never extend on their own, if they do it sounds as if you have a control setup issue. The spoilers on the wings will however extend when on the ground if the anti-skid system is fully engaged.

I'm not the right person to ask about this, I'm only the researcher. But I do know that there's an internal todo list for stuff to be done before it's considered out of EA. -
Don't think this matters tbh. They are too dissimilar for it to matter.
-
Problem is that the fact that the APG-70 and -71 shares technology doesn't mean that the -71 is based on -70. It's quite a different radar in most aspects so having the info on the -70 from the F-15E doesn't really help.
-
A lot of the time this information isn't classified as the classified part is the crypto which doesn't matter for a sim anyway. And even if it is for something like the F/A-18 (which I don't think it is iirc) that specific aircraft could have a simplified version of the interrogation process which they already have anyway.
-
Not impossible but also not likely. I'm guessing missiles at a given location would be the same. Afaik the Mk60 was produced much less as it was from an alternate producer that they stoped using eventually.
-
Basically you should always select AIM-54C over AIM-54A as that's just a straight upgrade. As for the motors there are differences but IRL they were regarded as having the same performance or at least close enough that the difference wasn't relevant. The difference is basically that one of them burns longer but weaker and the other burns shorter but stronger. But small difference. I'll leavy the discussion as to which motor is better in what situations to the people that put a lot of though into that.
-
This will be looked at for the earlier version of the F-14A. We basically already have the relevant AIM-7 variants but some of the AIM-9s are missing. It'll most likely have to be done by ED or by cooperating with them though as making our completely own AIM-9s just for the F-14 is a bit unecessary when they're missiles that should be used by many different aircraft.
-
Everything required as long as the other aircraft isn't AI and has their code running. That's exactly the issue. Doing it between player aircraft isn't hard. It would require work for the AI ofc for them to present correct responses and react correctly to the responses their radars get. But it's not rocket science and there's plenty of data available on how they work to model it.

It would be strange if HB didn't strive to improve quality standards now wouldn't it? But it's partly that and partly that the AWG-9 isn't primarily a pulse-radar. And no, I'm not saying that it is bad, just that, naturally, the APG-120 simulation has had a substantial amount of time and effort put into it as you'll be using pulse 100% of the time. Hopefully it's something that might eventually trickle back into the pulse side of the AWG-9. That said, like I said above, it shouldn't be expected that that means a copy paste as the AWG-9 is a completely different radar with a quite different antenna. (Better side-lobe supression afaik as an example.)
