  1. I can't imagine how that would work. Presumably the cockpit/your aircraft stays fixed, just everything beyond it is zoomed back and forth. I would have thought that would cause issues with head tracking.
  2. I imagine that something will be sorted out. Because the VR headsets use the same resolution presumably it makes the job of the dev's easier to provide a solution that is consistent for all VR users rather than trying to account for a large range of possibilities. Another question, does the 3D effect make any noticeable difference to sorting out target pixels from background pixels ? One of the things about depth perception I'm looking forward to is being able to to easily tell the difference from cockpit canopy marks and middle/far distance objects.
  3. I suspect it's already been answered, but the thought of going through 600 odd pages is a little daunting so please forgive me. How does zoom and aircraft spotting work with the Rift ? I always have the devil of a time balancing zoom with orientation and situational awareness normally, when using TrackIR. My Rift will arrive, one day, but while waiting I'm rather curious how it works in game.
  4. Yes, thank you. I dug it out, dusted it off, and plugged it in. It works well, although the Simshaker demo only enables the runway bumps, however I'm not convinced my wife would live with it for very long, it does make a fair noise that's transferred to the floor and downstairs. I reasoned that, along with the $27 cost of the Simshaker software, $7 for a new 90mm fan for the BK, the present one sounds as if it's at deaths door, plus the $50 I'm saving on shipping of the Oculus Rift justified upgrading to the jetseat. Hopefully I can further offset it by selling my buttkicker on fleabay as well.
  5. From Mig Alley If you can find a copy of this, it's brilliant, still fondly remembered, unfortunatley stored away somewhere safe. https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/2011/01/F86cover.jpg Link taken from here https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/01/17/fly-papers-an-ode-to-sim-material Also dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a440091.pdf just add WWW. to the front as it doesn't seem to want to link
  6. If you have been following the Oculus Rift roll out then you would appreciate that their efficiency and customer contact leave a lot to be desired. Read; non-existent.
  7. That was my reading of it, but I'm sure =Andre= could explain it far better than I, he seems to pop in regularly so I'm sure you'll get a proper, definitive answer soon.
  8. Thanks for your speed and efficiency =Andre=. Have you thought about working for Oculus, you could work wonders ?
  9. I think you'll find it's the opposite, sort of. For games that the Simshaker software is involved, DCS for example, although using the same triggers as the sounds, it doesn't actually use the sounds, just the same trigger events, flaps, gear, Warren for example. For games, such as BoS/MoS etc where the Simshaker software isn't used then yes you are correct it uses the same triggers as the sub woofer i.e sounds. That at least is my take on it from the reading that I've been doing.
  10. Just ordered a 908. Really looking forward to it (hopefully the wife won't be around when it arrives). A bit nervous though, as I daren't think about all the gadgets and rubbish I've amassed over the years, trying to get the best out of flight sims, that rather too quickly end up gathering dust in a box, buttkicker included. Last one wasn't so much the fault of the buttkicker, although vibration rattle and noise transference through to the floor wasn't helpful, but more to do with getting myself a USB headset several years ago and finding I could no longer also use the BK from my sound card in conjunction. Given that the Jetseat has been around/ being developed for a couple of years, I'm surprised I couldn't find more reviews on it, hasn't Bunyap done one, or SimHQ and if not why not ? It also seems to be the sort of thing that Jason, over at 777 champions and offers to the US market.
  11. Andre, 1) Does your KW-908 pack come with the Simshaker software or does that have to be bought separately ? 2) Does SimShaker and therefore the seat cushion only work with programs that YOU provide hooks for or does it work in any meaningful way with Battle of Stalingrad, for example ? To put it another way, does sole implementation of the Simshaker/KW-908 rest entirely in your hands or can anyone adapt the program outputs for different sims ?
  12. Resolved, typical Sorry, but a little stuck. Trying to get it to work with BK. Following the "Dream Sim Teams userguide " I get to the point where it says "Demo Mode" but can't find that screen anywhere, what am I missing ? I get the vib's, but outputting through my headphones because I can't set the output to the BK.
  13. Time to dust off my BK. Thanks for the quick response Andre.
  14. Sorry, but I don't really want to trawl through 60 odd pages of discussion so if it's already been answered I apologize in advance. Does this work if you use a usb headset as your main headphones and the onboard soundcard jacks for the buttkicker ?
  15. One of the things I'm most looking forward to in DCS VR is flying helecopters. I never really got the hang of them as is, I'm hoping VR will make the difference.
  16. Unfortunately not true. Only those people who backed at the $300 DK1 level got a free Rift (+DK1 obviously). Am I bitter...........maybe !!!!
  17. Thanks for suggestions. However I'm still curious as to why I can get aspect/angle specific scratch highlighting/shading in the cockpit canopy but the highlighting doesn't seem to apply to other aircraft. What happens to the canopy that can't be applied to other aircraft ? I think what I find surprising is when I have a bandit go from up above and thus an easily seen dark silhouette against the sky, pass under my aircraft and as I roll and look out the other side of the canopy I lose track of the bandit against the ground even though the target is quite close, within guns combat range. To reacquire the bandit I then have to zoom in my view. It all feels very unnatural. To cap it all the silver/grey F-86 or Mig 15 seem to take on a dusky pink tone at close to mid distances when viewed from above that makes them even harder to spot without lots of zooming in.
  18. Why is it ? Aircraft visibility I know their are several threads about aircraft spotting, but they seem to be mostly about size with regard to resolution and zoom level. I was trying to dogfight an F86 over Nevada, no labels, and had the very devil of a time trying to keep tabs on my opponent, especially at middle distances, even though the F-86 isn't exactly camed up. When the F-86 is set against a light background, like the sky, I can see my opponent but when he goes below the horizon i tend to lose track, unless I'm quick with the zoom button and have reckoned correctly on where he will appear, after changing my view orientation, even though the aircraft should be relatively bright compared to the background if I'm between the sun and the target. Why is it that I can have scratches and stress fractures in my cockpit canopy that react to the orientation to the sun but not have other aircraft do the same. It would make an enormous difference to tracking targets, without having to revert to labels, if the way middle distance targets reflected light better. I did learn one thing though. Having become incredibly frustrated at trying to find targets when not using labels, even if I knew pretty much exactly were they are,, cockpit FOV and target spotting are linked (sorry for being a bit behind on the uptake). Wide field of view in cockpit- spot bugger all, narrow field of view, lack of SA, but you have an outside chance of spotting and tracking another aircraft.
  19. You miss the point. Its not about shiny shiny, it's about the luminescence that you get from real world objects made from different materials. I know what a plastic push button warning light looks like, I know what cockpit buttons and knobs look like, they aren't the same as the metal panel behind. That, most often, doesn't come across in the cockpits. The external views give a reach out and touch it solidity to the models, in large part due to the lighting. In my opinion that cannot be said for the pits, despite the fact that the pits are the primary place of interacting with the sim, rather than just revelling in the games good looks.
  20. I agree all modules aren't created equal. It's just that going from externals, where the objects have real solidity and form to the cockpit, which despite me having TrackIR 5 and therefore potentially 3D still seem very 2D and flat. Having fun in the Hawk and Mig 15 at the moment. I appreciate the Hawk is due a cockpit update but I don't expect anything radical, and yes, the Mig 21 is awesome.
  21. I'm just curious. lot's of things have improved in flight sims over the years but one thing that constantly seems stuck on permanent hold are cockpit textures. There is obviously an obvious answer, but is it really that demanding ? What I'm referring to are the matt paint jobs of the cockpits. If I hop outside (F2) then there are lots of occasions that I'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between a screenshot and the real thing (maybe it's just an age thing, now where did I leave my glasses). It just looks brilliant. The same, unfortunately, can't be said for the cockpits. So much effort goes into them and yet, ultimately, they still look lifeless, even with the best efforts of the cockpit shadows. Plastic warning lights, switches, metal, soft furnishings etc etc, they all have the same dull matt effect, what gives ?
  22. Playing with the Mig 15, quick mission, intercept, no labels. Struggled to find my target, GREYHOUND AWAC ?, even when I knew pretty much where it was. Eventually found it, with difficulty, and damaged it so that it produced a trail of white smoke. Then lost it again. When I eventually found it again, using it's "F2" view to see where it was I tried to follow it from my Mig 15 cockpit but depending on what angle I was looking at it from, the white smoke certainly and possibly the target kept vanishing. I should point out I use a Triple monitor set up and Track IR. If I looked directly at it, it vanished, but looking away from it the smoke would pop back into view. Just moving my head from side to side caused the smoke and possibly the target to vanish and re-appear. Intel 920 I7 quad GTX 670 4gb ram Th2g TrackIR Win 7 Geforce driver 350.12 5040 x 1050
  23. Happy to try and help out and would be content with just the aircraft and pdf manuals. No need for any physical extras.
  24. Maybe stretch goals should be changed as there seems limited chances of the KS reaching much more than the $100,000 initial goal. If not the KS then maybe just where the RRG team go after the initial KS. Reading the DCS WWII threads over at BoS there were a couple of people saying that they were from China and that it was quite difficult getting into flight sims for them because nobody was really thinking or considering them, plus, I suppose, the fact that the flight sims we tend to play are less relevant to them. A Korea sim however might however have a very wide appeal across several continents including that of China, a market that didn't even exist at the time when Mig Alley was released. Now however !!! It's not like a map would even need to be produced as Georgia would make a good stopgap for the North Korean peninsula. The question would be, how committed are Belsimtek to producing the F86, in what time frame and would it be considered impolite if RRG studios also wished to produce one ? The plane set could be quite limited and even with only one or two aircraft feel adequate. F86's and Mig 15/bis as flyables. The P51 already exists, a Yak 9 to give a little added flavour for the Russians and maybe a SeaFury for carrier ops. Add to that a few non flyables such as B-29's, F-80's and 84's and viola a half descent Korea sim for a limited budget and limited time frame.
  25. If you already had the Russian version of the game, even if you uninstalled it, when you went to install the English version the installer would probably have picked up the Russian CAB files. To rectify, either delete or rename the CAB files that came with the Russian version and then reinstall the English version. :pilotfly:
