Who will win the race between the Mi-24 and the OH-58?
SmukY replied to Razorback's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
The only problem I find that is ED only makes and will publish one helicopter ... and it's not the OH-58. To be honest I'm not that eager about OH-58 because by last demo videos flight model seemed to be quite arcadey like the DCS: Gazelle. For example, OH-58D was completely still in the hover even after launching 2 hellfire missiles (fun fact ... one missile weights around ~50kg and that's quite a number) and there was no weight shifting at all, that made me to completely lose any faith in the module. When I pointed that out in the stream many angry fans practically attacked me and told me it was just a work in progress. I don't know, maybe I do expect too much but the flight model is a base of everything - especially in helicopters, which practically beat air into the submission, thus making their flight model is a hard and delicate process. It's also why I'm so interested in Mi-24, not only I am very big fan of it but now I have a full faith, especially after I saw what Belsimtek (now of course ED) is capable of and how delicate their rotary wing modules are. -
Yes Hinds whole fuselage aside from the cockpit is slightly inclined to the right for negating rotor's lateral lift at higher speed (can be clearly seen in DCS on Ka-50's lower rotor at higher speeds, and if you go too fast, you risk collision of lower and upper rotor). Trimming this helo should be an piece of cake contrary to Mi-8 which clearly tilts a lot at higher speeds.

Wow, that's quite a higher survival ratio than I thought at first. Well, it is indeed a flying tank if nothing else. Should be more tougher than Mi-8 that's for sure. Also since updated damage model for WW2 is already out, and since ED promised it will do advanced damage model for other modern modules I really want to know if the hind will come already with updated one or it will be added later like it damage model for WW2 module was recently just added.

I just tried F-14A, I actually like the engines and their afterburner effect, althought I unfortunatelly didn't manage to stall them. Anyway, thank you for subtitling the campaing - I will try it. About Jester, what I can say. I'll perhaps ask again in the end of the next year so I won't be poking that much so that you can focus on a (i presume) already prelaid plan and do what is most important to your team and of course to us so that we can enjoy the 'cat to the maximum. Be good and stay healthy.

Well, Stinger actually can do a lot of damage especially on direct hits. You can check some actual footages of various helicopters shotdowns by various missiles. Especially in cases when tail just falls of and it's practically impossible to save damaged aircraft as such.

Congratulations on the promising results of your hard work, I truly believe that A version will be an amazing addition to the DCS World. We only can be thankful for your work, especially around those uncertain times. It's been quite a time, so I'll ask again, are any changes about that subject - subtitles for Jester? Thanks, be good and stay healthy.

Just saw your post on the FB group, what have you done is simply amazing - too bad I don't have the place for my own cockpit, but who knows, maybe one day ... :) Also, did you make the vector image for the stencil on the wall?
-
Faking with animations? Ka-50 has already one that's fully functional and it does everything what you describe. althought i do admit i don't remember if the pitot tube reacts on the cannon and rocket fire. Would be a nice addition if it would.

There are actually quite some videos of hinds using bombs, for example this one in Syria: https://www.military.com/video/operations-and-strategy/air-strikes/mi-24s-bomb-syrian-rebels/4750377259001

Yes for me it was also second stage on button 1 too (talking for TM Warthog of course)

UPDATE 10.9.2020: Since there's just no interest for this, this thread can be locked and/or deleted. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, yes I know another item wishlist, but whatever, I'll do it. Anyway, with upcoming Mi-24P hind module there's a thing I'm missing from DCS ... that's the propulsion fire from the rockets. At night they're fairly visible, but in the day they just don't have the wow effect I am looking for, same it's for the guns - a lot of smoke but no actual fire from powder / propulsion. Examples: Also it's seems true that is not in every case, like this: But let's just go on: Anyway I did a search and I don't know if anyone has yet wishlisted it. If anyone did then you can delete this thread or link it to existing thread - my bad in this case. Otherwise ... yeah, I know it's not a crucial element for DCS, but it would be a fine eyecandy for watching, movies and screenshots. Anyway currently state of DCS I just don't have any feeling there's any fire coming out from pods ... only some of smoke and that's it, I don't know if it is an engine limit but if I remember correctly in some previous version (1.5 i think?) the effect was more noticeable. My 5 cents though. :)

It has a good aerodynamics. On top of that add the retractable gears and big wings that not only carry hinds weapons, they provide a huge lift and make helicopter more stabile at higher speed since it was made to keep it stabile as faster it goes. Also let's not forget the fact that whole fuselage aside from the cockpit is slightly inclined to the right for negating rotor's lateral lift at higher speed (can be clearly seen in DCS on Ka-50's lower rotor at higher speeds, and if you go too fast, you risk collision of lower and upper rotor).
-
How about disabling multiplayer for openbeta and enabling it on stable only?
-
Hey, thanks for being straightforward, a direct answer is far better than no answer. Well, I'll try to ask again after stable release of both B and A Tomcats. If there still won't be any possibility of Jester's subtitles, I'd at least know that Heatblur is fair and just team, which doesn't BS.
-
With the last update for DCS now performance is finally better than it was before and I'm back again flying and remembered about subtitles for Jester in DCS - are there any talks yet for them? If no, it's alrighty, I'll gladly wait if they become implemented at some point. Great jobs as always guys, Tomcat sure is a mighty beast :) Althought I did got shot down by MiG-21 thanks to the fact I wasn't flying for quite a time because of unstability of previous patches.
-
And keeping on high altitude with helicopter, especially armed or loaded one, would be a difficult task to do too. Even Ka-50 is really on the edge when flying in Caucausus mountains.
-
No the model is indeed new, as it's seen by the main rotor animation which feels very different than one from current Mi-24V model, also note borked tail rotor animation too. If that'd be current model, then animation of tail rotor should be fine. And yeah it's Mi-24P of Turkmen Air Force, photos of their hinds are quite rare.

I'm just curious how it will work if the pilot will have supercarrier and for example RIO won't?
-
Please review it when you get it, it's very intriguing. I have this one and it's very good: https://www.amazon.de/dp/8365281538/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Mil+Mi-24+Attack+Helicopter&qid=1578378344&sr=8-2 I hope the new book is good as this one.

Was the interview concluded and what questions were answered?
-
Hey guys, any news on the subtitles front? :)
-
Hungary, Belarus, Ukraine (also was in UN livery too), Uganda, Nigeria, Armenia are the operators of Mi-24P if I recall correct.
-
Can you link me a source about this? It can be from Russian part of the forum too. Since they're doing (testing even) multicrew I just don't find this to be true.
-
Don't worry, I know that's a delicate process and you already have a lot on your plate. I'll just nudge gently here from time to time in the hope that I someday will be able to fully utilise the mighty F-14 Tomcat. Thanks anyway.

This is same training mission for the startup afaik, so no F-15, there are already some flying F-16s around too.
