  1. Hi Pierre, I'm going to say first of all that there are a lot of people on here who know a lot more than me but I'll have a go at explaining of the top of my head what I use these points for. Waypoints are pre-planned navigational points of reference for you to follow on route to your area of operation. Markpoints are used to "mark" a point of interest, whether flying over an interesting area or an enemy sighting. Bullseye is a pre-determined point in space used as a reference point for flights to relay positions, used as a bearing and distance from Bullseye eg: 125/35 = 135 degrees from Bullseye and at a distance from Bullseye of 35 miles. Hook is a selected waypoint or markpoint etc on the moving map display. It is your sensor point of interest sometimes for example a waypoint selected will have a white symbol over it on the display and your weapons can be slaved to it. Hope this gets you started, I'm sure others will be able to discribe better than I can. Cheers, Dan.
  2. Here is something that I read, Tanker Rejoin- NVGs may be worn for night tanker rejoins, but will be raised to the up and stowed position or removed no later than the pre-contact position through the actual contact and AAR. Goggles can be returned to the “on” position post AAR, while still with the tanker. Seems like NVGs are a no no for refuelling.....
  3. Quick edit. RoF with TIR will blow your mind. It's absolutely needed in a close up dogfight, you have to have eyes on or you've had it.....
  4. I have had the pro clip for a couple of years now and I love it, it just clips onto my headphones and I have zip tied the two cables together so I don't get tangled up. The only thing to watch out for is either quickly grabbing your headphones while they are on ( I nearly always seem to knock the clip) and putting the clip/ headphone down face up!! It's only plastic and seems really fragile to touch. Having said all that, mine still works great. As others have said it will take some time to get used to and your neck won't know what's going on! Plenty of profiles out there to help you out but it's fairly intuitive to set up, just takes some time to get it how YOU want it. I literally can't fly without it, it feels so natural. Also, you can use it for F1 2012! Makes looking for cars alongside easy and you can look to apex really well. Enjoy! Dan.
  5. Go to Mission Editor and find the root for Quick Start (Open/QuickStart/en) Select the one you like and edit away, Save when finished. Dan.
  6. Yeah, there is a cross fire adapter in the box so I think so. My card is a saphire HD 4870 512Mb, I'll do some "looking stuff up" and see what is what. Probably wait though since this is a beta and BS plays pretty good, also its for FSX but thats a whole different kettle of fish! Cheers. Dan.
  7. Ok thanks guys, Maybe I'd better wait a while then, I didn't realise the 460 is just to be released soon. I have Win7 on my laptop so am familiar with it, but to honest I have too many addons for FSX to go through all that again! (Refering to when my last HDD went pop). Just the thought of all the serial numbers I'd have to find again fills me with dread. I was only going to upgrade my Gfx card as an intermediate step until I eventually upgrade my MB, CPU RAM etc.... I get a stable 30 fps on Smerch Hunt with medium settings, about 10-20 average. Nearly all flights in nevada end with no terrain or sky so I thought it was my card, (beta 1 too). I also can not use high settings at all or else the sim crashes. Thanks again, Dan.
  8. Hi, I'm contemplating a new graphics card but don't know much about them to be honest. I will only use it for DCS and FSX really, so any advise will be appreciated. What I Have: ATI HD 4870 512Mb running at 500 GPU Clock speed. 900Mhz Memory clock. Seems to run ok at 750 GPU and 1000Mhz Mem, but temps are up in the 80s©. I do occasionally have hardware crashes at these speeds. My CPU is E8600 running slightly OC'd at 3.66GHz. I used to run it at 3.9 but had a HDD fail so I wound it in slightly. My motherboard is probably the weakest link (ASUS P5KPL-AM), RAM is pretty weak too (3.5Gb 800Mhz DDR2 I think). Running XP Home 32bit. Cheers, Dan.
  9. This can be changed in the HUD options, or, alternatively look in the manual page 351 point 3. Half the fun is learning new things. Dan.
  10. Yeah this happened to me today, I was taking off on the Smurch Hunt(think thats it?), I noticed a small bump where the accel zone met the threshold while I was doing about 80 Kts. This produced a slight bobbing up and down for a second or two, front gear would not retract after rotation. I managed to fly the mission for an hour before geting fustrated at my weapon systems failing to deploy. Guess its a limitation when a gear strut is hanging in front of them? Nice slow landing after releasing my stores to reduce weight, no colapse even with full braking.
  11. Press the same button again to get Ripple up on the MFCD, then enter the desired amount in the UFC or CDU and input it to the MFCD. Then do the same for spacing. Dan.
  12. First pilot: Dead now but 13h46m kill ratio 38/6 Current:more actual mission time 6h38m kill ratio 12/9 Getting better at surviving now so this should improve. If only I could re-arm/re-fuel! Dan.
  13. As per the A10A flight performance manual, GW-30000lbs Flaps 20 Final App Speed is about 120Kts. GW-35000lbs Flaps 20 Final App Speed is about 130Kts. GW-40000lbs Flaps 20 Final App Speed is about 140Kts. GW-45000lbs Flaps 20 Final App Speed is about 150Kts. Flaps 0 Speeds are 10 Kts faster. Touchdown speeds are 10Kts slower. Obviously this is for an A model so these will be a little slow (I think). As for the GS, use the AoA indexer on the left of the HUD, aim for the blue circle (On AoA) for touchdown. Dan.
  14. Anyone know what to do? I've tried it at several airports now, I need to rearm to continue with some of the missions. Cheers, Dan.
  15. During one of the instant action files I can not get the ground crew to refuel or rearm my aircraft, is this because it is only an instant action file? I land at WP 8 on the first file (easy hills), and taxi to a parking spot, shut down engines and turn comms switch to INTERCOM, depress the Hot Mic button and the INT button as per the manual. In the rearming text no arming options appear, nor does the refueling work. Please tell me that I'm doing something wrong so I can keep trying. Also let me know if this option is not yet modeled? Cheers, Dan.
  16. ED, et al I am receiving a new system next week and want to transfer my DCS to it. I currently use a laptop to play and no probs at all! Great game. I have searched the forums but I am still confused as to what happens in a situation like mine? If I de-activate using this laptop then will my re-activation key hold hardware specific information that will not work on my new system? I do not intend to connect my new system to the internet at this time. Thanks in advance. P.S. I have also read the Starforce web site.
  17. Saitek keys OK, Collective- Finger/mouse wheel-Zoom Finger hat switch-Shkval move Slider-Throttle Thumb rotary-Wheel brake(foreward) Button E-Clickable mouse cockpit Button D-Lock target Thumb mouse-look Cyclic- T1,T3,T5 up-Hdg,Roll,Pitch AP toggle T5 down-Alt hold Button C-Trim Button B-Auto Hover Button A-Flight Director Fire(red)-Optics on Finger trigger-1 click=Fire gun,2 click=Fire weapon. Therefore- Pt+C-reset trim Pt+A-Flares Pt+Thumb hat(silver)-Shkval On/Off Pt+Collective hat sw-Left=Shkval tgt size down/Right=increase Pt+Collective hat sw-Up=Shkval zoom/Down=zoom out I think thats about it for me but thats just using in game settings with the pinkie fire as a modifier so you end up with quite a few options, I've gone for a 50/50 real/functionality. Hope this is easy to understand?? Dan.
  18. Yep this also happens to me usually when I'm zoomed in and designating targets, doesn't matter if auto turn to track is on or not either. Annoying but not always fatal! I just think of it as practice yaw turning at a high rate of descent! Lol.
  19. EDIT EDIT. Sorry, your pc has roughly same specs + 1 Ghz so try it on that first!
  20. laptop user Hey Golden28, I've been playing DCS on my old laptop (rough specs XPhome,P4m70 2.00Gz,Gforce6600Go 256Mb, 2Gz Ram 533,Saitex x52 Pro.) Close most services with fs-autostart,Med settings but res down to 1024x768(ish) and it plays ok. I cant say its fast but at least 15fps up to 25 when in battle(clouds are a killer though). Get a steady 27=fps with FSX and spitfire etc(just to compare) so try it out on your laptop coz you got a whole extra GHZ than me! If you dont like it or you need really high fps then just upgrade your pc. That my 2 pennies worth anyway, good luck!!
  21. Laptop user Hey bratwurst, Just to reply to the last part of the post; I run it along with multiple other flight and combat sims on a novatech laptop that I've had for 2 years now. P4 2.00ghz,256 Nv6600Go, 2 Gb of slowish ram too! but I just close down most apps using fsautostart and things are just rosey! OK I have to turn down a few setting like res and scenes etc but unless i'm in the clouds.....prob about 15-22fps during a mission. Just about good enough for a rotor wing! As for the rest of the replies-I have and still do play all of the mentioned sims and i'm really impressed with DCS because it has realism AND looks. Good stuff.
