It’s just weird how it does it sometimes and then not others. Firstly I’ll completely reinstall DCS and if that doesn’t work then a reinstall of Windows. If that doesn’t work then it’s hardware or back to TrackIR.
-
But the last Oculus update was somewhere round the 20th April and it's been fine up until about two weeks ago. I'm not convinced it's Oculus.
-
I spoke too soon - Doing it again tonight, quite badly. Was absolutely fine yesterday. Sound in my headphones dropping out when it stutters too. FFS..... I’m going to delete the entire DCS from my PC and reinstall. It was playing up big time tonight on a Nevada flight so I stopped that, jumped straight into another flight on Nevada that I was on yesterday and it was absolutely fine. Both in the F-16. I’m beginning to think this is a problem with the game rather than my Rift or GPU etc... How do I completely remove all trace? Just simply delete all folders on both the C: & D:?

So after plugging my mates Rift S in and going through the setup on that in Oculus, it appears to have fixed the issue. God knows how that fixed it but it did! Weird indeed.
-
Yeah both VR & monitor plugged into the card. The only feature in Oculus is the ASW mode. I have it set to auto so if it can’t hit 80 then it goes to 40fps and that’s where ASW comes in. Tried all different modes of it too, no joy. Yep, my mate text me earlier and said maybe time to reinstall Windows so looks like I’ll be doing that. Not a massive issue because there’s nothing on the PC apart from DCS. Fingers crossed that’ll sort it.

Another weird one to add to my issues...the performance of the latest beta when running on my monitor is outstanding. Seriously amazing. But, plug the Rift in and it cripples it! WTF??
-
So stupidly installed this afternoons latest beta, needless to say my issues are worse. Oh and I tried the X-Plane 11 demo too, same story there. I even uninstalled the 3 recent Windows 10 updates back to the one in April when I know things were spot on. Still the same.

Yeah I’ll do a recording later tonight....

Yeah it's liquid cooled and it's the Strix overclocked 1080Ti. Although I've never altered the clock on it, it's been the same since I've had it.

In 2D the buzzing sound is very, very faint and the performance is perfect. Ultra smooth on high settings. I was under the impression the buzzing sound is just the normal coil whine that we can get with cards such as mine but I'm not 100% sure. Something else i tried last night was a GPU stress test. I ramped the settings up to the highest they could go and set it to run, the benchmarking results were excellent (FPS etc) but this buzzing sound was really noticeable and in places it was stuttering, exactly like it does in VR in DCS, same buzzing sound and then stuttering, even though the FPS was still high, something like 170 ish. Temps were fine, never went above 50 degrees but I do have an expensive GPU & CPU liquid cooling setup to be fair. Strange indeed this is!

Still no joy unfortunately. Ran the DDU uninstaller on the GPU drivers, re-loaded the drivers but still the same. One thing worth mentioning is ever since I got my new PC I've noticed the graphics card is quite noisy, almost like a high pitched buzz when under load. I believe this is normal but when I load DCS and it starts to stutter this buzz stops and that's when I get the freezes. Thought it might be a power issue on the Rift but swapping the USB's about made no difference. Really am struggling now!

Thanks mate, appreciate your help. I’ll give it a go after work tomorrow and fingers crossed it’ll sort things. I’ll let you know....thanks again.

The clean install route is what I select every time when installing new drivers. What’s concerning me though is the drivers I’ve installed over the past week or so. I reverted back to the 442.19 and another and then back to the latest so I’m thinking maybe doing that has caused this issue. I might be wrong but it’s the only thing I can think of that I’ve done. I’m thinking the DDU cleanup is worth a shot but I don’t want to mess things up completely...
-
Just a thought but I’ve tried thinking what I’ve done over the past week or so and the only thing I can think of is revert back the Nvidia driver, then reverted forward again and then back. Always select the clean install but maybe this has done something? Anyone with a better knowledge of it might know? Possibly left registry files and knackered things up a bit?

I don’t have SSAA on in VR mate, only MSAA x2.
-
I’m going to borrow my mates Rift-S and see what that’s like first.
-
I’ve not tried any other game in VR as the only thing installed on my machine is DCS. I tried it tonight again on the monitor with the settings on high, SSAA x2 and MSAA x2 etc etc and it was absolutely glass smooth. And that’s on my Asus 1440p monitor so it’s definitely pointing to a VR specific issue. It’s literally doing my head in!
-
Still the same tonight and no Windows updates going on. Might be time for a Reverb I think.....
-
Spot on, thanks. Not that I’ve had any problems before but it’s worth looking at. Fingers crossed this latest issue I’ve got will get sorted....
-
Ah that's great, thanks for that. More clear now as to what they do. To be fair I've used TrayTool but since these problems a couple of days ago I deleted it, ran DCS and it appears exactly the same anyway? Pixel Density set in game gave the same results. Any services you'd recommend to stop or at least put into manual?
-
Unsure what you mean by stopping the Oculus Service? I get confused with the things like Tray Tool, De-Bug tool and Oculus Service. Is the Service something that can be stopped or is running all the time? Sorry for the daft questions.....:pilotfly:
-
That’s great, I’ll give that a try later and see if it sorts my issue...
-
Yeah you're right, I think if it was the GPU failing I'd notice something wrong when in DCS on the monitor. I'll just have to wait for more updates, both Windows & Oculus. I'll give it another go tonight, maybe after a day being switched off it might've fixed itself!
-
Starting to think it may not be the Oculus software as the last update was something like the 18th of April i think. I’ve been on DCS many times since then and it was fine. Not checked to see if it’s stuck in a Windows update cycle yet but I will. Failing that I’ve no idea! Probably sounds ridiculous but could it be the GPU on the way out? Although I’ve just tried it without the Rift and on the monitor and it was absolutely spot on...
-
Interesting that, thanks mate...I’ll definitely see how I can stop auto updates because they’re a pain! Shame I can’t revert back to previous Oculus updates a bit like you can the Nvidia drivers. Hopefully I’ll get this issue sorted...
