  1. We play Arma 3 times a week, most days theres 30-50 players on. Well organized, proper comms and chain of command. Nobody leaves formation. So in my books, its not dead. Saying arma is "soulless" without playing it with a tactical squad using Ace + Vopsound 1.19 for example is like saying F1 car sucks for shopping, in my opinion. Arma without mods is totally a different game and i agree it sucks. Ace arma with a good soundmod however changes pretty much everything. And most public servers dont count, the ones with crosshairs and 3rd person view and crap missions that lack proper squad structures etc are pretty much for this battlefield/cod generation, and thank god they went back to their games, which is why those servers are empty :P It has flaws, its not perfect. HOWEVER, name a game that does what arma does, but better. ... ... Thought so, there aint one. If there was, we would play that instead :)
  2. Commanding 8 retarded AI soldiers? Sorry mate youve got it all wrong. ArmA is meant to be played online with tactical gaming squads, not with AI. Also if you are looking for "Fast paced", forget arma games, go with some shoot'em'up game that get you straight into the action - Like the new flashpoint for example. In ArmA it may take an hour before you get anything fast paced, scouting ahead takes time, transportation takes time, briefing the mission and plan based on scouting results to all players.. loading up all the gear.... etc etc.. Often some people in some of the fireteams dont get any kills. It's called realism. There is no such thing as OFP2 - It is now know as OFP Dragon Rising as they have no right to call it OFP2 anymore, as its not a sequel. It has absolutely nothing to do with original OFP, only the name. Makers of this new flashpoint DID NOT make the original flashpoint. You should also be aware that some stuff out there for OFP are RENDERS, not actual gameplay. What comes to that tank video, i don't see anything spectacular in there, big muzzle flash thats all :P New flashpoint uses some arcade car racing game engine, does not have freelook, has arcadish hud and whatnot - it's basically a COD clone, nothing "sim" about it as far as we know. Oh, sims and consoles are not going to happen, no way youll get anything even remotely realistic on consoles, just dumbed down versions. OFP: DR is a console game ported to PC, and we all know those fail, horribly. Arma2 is for PC and likely will be dumbed down to consoles :)

Yeah, your opinion is the most creditable fact in this universe. [EDIT BY MOD: RULE 1.2]

You are just doing it wrong. Well atm arma is the least arcadish game, even with all its limitations and faults, there is in this genre. And most of those issues people complain about, like collision detection dont actually matter. if you care about stuff like that you got the wrong game, if you want to run people over go play carmageddon, if you want to run n gun raimbo in some childish game go play BF2 or COD. It is quite thin if you dont have those approriate mods, ACE being one of them, and play it as a singleplayer game with AI, or on some public server where all those CS/COD/Battlefield kids run around doing all random stuff. You get into a 60 player op with airforce, armor and infantry working together using formations, keeping their fire sectors and using voice comms and appropriate chain of command, then it goes like its SUPPOSED to be played. People saying those screenshots where you have elements clearing urban areas and moving as a group are "fake" just have no idea how tactical games are meant to be played. Its simply the only game which offers all that stuff it does, big areas with different vehicles working together. And has even some candy as a bonus, like weapons having moving bolts etc and ammo actually getting lower in the magazine when you look into it, passing out when hit badly, dragging wounded mates to safety, treating them correctly depending on their wounds, backblasts from AT weapons, gun jams, and so on and so on.

Lets clear few things up. There is no OFP2, there is only Operation Flashpoint : Dragon Rising. They can NOT market it as sequel to original flashpoint because it has NOTHING to do with it. It has completely different developer team, and it has arcadish rally game engine. OFP : Dragon Rising is a mainstream arcade shooter, COD clone marketing itself as "SIM" with that ridiculous HUD and hit indicators etc. ARMA2 is a simulation. Theres a difference. :)
  6. Yeah, it's not implemented. I left all possible lights and systems on with engines stopped without connecting it. 12 hours later i could just start it up, infinite batteries that is.
  7. Hey. I used to be able to alt tab from DCS with no probs. Now if i alt-tab out, i can't get back in. I have tried using different desktop resolution vs dcs resolution with no help. Ideas?
  8. Sure any touchscreen you can run would work as replacing mouse, but im not sure if thats really as practical as it sounds. Theres a video of someone turning normal monitor into touchscreen with wiimote, ir led and some stuff.
  9. Cheers, gives some idea what it's about... but russian seems to be very tricky for translators, guess its so much different as a language :)
  10. Could use this topic for this too... Anyone can translate? Can't even find them lyrics anywhere, could use a translator site if there was ^_^ i'd guess its russian - that's all i know.. maybe  She sure doesnt have the moves of that earlier vid but... :D
  11. If you control it with a real Ka-50 joystick, yes, that would give realistic results.

  13. Humm, not going to argue about it since it works just fine for me, dont really want to spend over 100 bucks just to get a bit faster tracking. Maybe if it was something fast paced it might matter, but not in BS. I just don't see how someone can make out 50-70 dollars from: Webcam, VX-1000 does well, used ones around 5-10 dollars? 3 Leds, around 25 cents each? 1 Meter of wire... 50 cents? 1 Old diskette, lol? and either: Some batteries.. or USB Wire + fuse + resistor... + A bit work putting it all together. With this you get something that does its job, smooth 6DOF head tracking around 30fps with most webcams, give or take few FPS, but those are some really expensive frames you want if you go for TIR4. Ok yes it needs some tweaking, i had to calibrate it for some hours to get it respond right since everyone has different kind of cap, takes a while to get it set up allright, but if its about money and one is handy with electronics, that should not be an issue? Don't get me wrong, this thing about giving old TIRs for cheap is very generous. Just letting ppl know this option incase they cant get that TIR they want, but some people seem to have something against DIY stuff, hello, some people actually enjoy building stuff. It's like you are saying "People must buy simulator cockpit X or Y for thousands of dollars instead of making one of wood themselves. And if those people who make TIR are so concerned about people using freetrack, how about try selling/making some of them instead of crying about them having some competition... i waited mine for about 40 days before i learned about freetrack and cancelled my order, stocks STILL show negative numbers, more sold than theres coming... so..
  14. Some car sims i play have their windows textured with animated rain textures, and again with wiped textures when wipers are being used, with very little performance hit, no need to REALLY simulate how that water goes on the screen by wind or stuff.. True that, but if there would still be lots of games and stuff that run on 98, id use it over XP any day. Having dos running under it gives very much room to work with incase windows goes tits up, wich it usually does sooner or later, no matter wich version. atm XP just happens to be the most supported system out there, so most people prefer it. Maybe there will be time when vista has drivers and support for everything xp has, but i doubt it.
  15. Bills.
  16. Exactly my point. Making people pay hundreds of dollars in vista, wich they don't even want to use in the first place, just to play DCS would sure cut their market in half.
  17. As long as microsoft keeps ripping people off by forcing them to vista, wich is tbh still in beta stage, just to get a new directX that offers barely anything new for current hardware, and even that small advantage is lost when vista eats much more resources, it wouldn't be quite smart to make it DX10 only  Most ppl upgrade to XP anyway. Tho some DX10 "hacks" are already out for win XP, i wouldn't be too sure they would work with this new engine
  18. True, but as said, they fly a real thing, wich in some ways (feedback etc) make it easier compared to us. We have spring centered cheap plastic joysticks with no feedback so can't expect us to do it exactly like them.
  19. There are complete tutorials on the freetrack site, but basically all you need is a webcam, 3 leds connected to any power source to light them up, and a cap to attatch them into so they move with your head. To make it work better, you should use IR leds, remove IR filter from your camera and replace it with negative film that lets only IR light thru (From old floppy disk example) For flawless results you could follow the given dimensions for them leds, u can find them from their site too. If you do it well, it works just as well as trackir, and only costs 1/5 of it.
  20. Make sure you have all them weapons systems, laser, ekran and whatever this thing has enabled. Works for me. Unlike that damn automatic quickstart wich seems to go all nuts if you touch anything before using it :D But i guess that's what one gets for using cheats.
  21. Or people could spend 15 dollars and use freetrack wich works just as well... :) And it has 6DOF.
  22. Flight director does not stabilize altitude but rather disables autopilot from automatically returning pitch/yaw/bank/collective to where they were when you last trimmed, depending on AP modes. Real pilots don't have trim issues as they do not have to use a sping centered PC controller to fly their choppers, so they don't need such fancy things.
  23. See links in this topic http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35665
  24. It's not in the game yet.. Wet surfaces have been around so long they shouldn't cut half of the playerbase out by making it DX10! Hopefully with the new gfx engine we'll see them, hopefully with new trees and "linebug" fixes :)
  25. I'd bet you can run it @ 25fps, however it won't be very pretty @ that resolution. Also your GPU might have hard time. Processor is fine, thats actually faster than most you get nowdays.. Ram is ok too, but if its stock its not the fastest out there :) OT: Cedar Mill pentium 4's can clock all the way up to 8ghz, and thats 16 G H Z as Dualcore ;)
