The nose strut will now move similar to this: Power to taxi is also dramatically reduced. Disclaimer: This is not representative of the final product. Testing still in progress. Known issues: braking effectiveness and anti-skid problems Install this inside Mods, F14/Entry Config.lua
-
I might be able to post a preview here, it’s just a modification of Config.lua so it’s non-proprietary and already publicly accessible in the Mods folder. Not sure if it would pass IC however.

Yes, we may make the "realistic option" the default in the future, but TBD. -
An improvement is coming next patch!

Let's try and keep this discussion about the F-14...getting a bit off topic. -

Oh I know @Spurts, no worries! I was just trying to say the answer to the question "is the <insert here> overmodelled?" is most likely: Yes, but just as likely to be "undermodeled" too. Modules that have the whole envelope perfectly tuned are probably in a minority, but I haven't tested every module to confirm that. -

If you guys read the rather large update we posted, you would have noticed a link I included at the bottom: https://dcs.silver.ru/Diagram/F14B Remember this is not a HB affiliated website, just something a DCS user made that I find interesting. There are other aircraft on the webpage and the last tested DCS version is somewhat older, but do what you want with this information. There appear to be some discrepancies in certain aircraft. Admittedly, the F-14 was one of them until I could fine tune it. The difference between being way off the numbers and really close can be miniscule at times. It would be unrealistic to expect every DCS aircraft to be perfect across the whole envelope. Tuning any flight model requires a great deal of knowledge and experience, as well as immense amounts of time. If the testing methodology is sound, everyone could answer their own questions with hard numbers. -
Hey @Callsign JoNay thanks for the testing and info! Facts and hard numbers are always appreciated! I'm generally not the stores/loadout guy but this must have slipped through the cracks or been the product of an internal misunderstanding, I'll take a look. The good news is this doesn't impact the FM tuning since all the testing that informed the tuning was done with non-Phoenix loadouts. This will only add some extra weight so the performance should work out accordingly. Now we just need to figure out why the weight isn't being added properly... Everyone else: take note of how this FM bug report was presented and formatted, I will ignore reports that are based purely on feelings!

F-14A/B Flight Model Tuning - Guided Discussion

Maybe, but not anytime soon as it's super low priority. Reading some of the "reviews" of this update is amusing. The placebo effect is real and I'll leave it at that. -

Ground handling won't make it for this one unfortunately. -

The AOA buffet change was from a recommendation by our pilot SME. It will be more like a step function and has slightly decreased amplitude. I'll post another FM update closer to the patch date. As for the jet wash/burble, it may have been bugged in the past; sometimes resulting in both implementations adding together on servers, but my understanding is that has been fixed. -

The AOA buffet shake is going to be an opt-in checkbox because I have a feeling a large amount of people will come here to complain that they're used to the old version. Maybe I could reverse it and make the "old" AOA buffet be the opt-in option. ED jet wash/burble model does not apply to the F-14 because we implemented our own before ED created theirs and we were happy with it after working together with our SMEs to create it. -

F-14B FM update is coming next OB. Wing rock has always been part of the model, yes it's going to stay. The Yaw SAS was updated and became "too good", preventing it from happening. The F-4 will wing rock as well. -
Have you read this yet? I discuss wing sweep and performance in the article. https://heatblur.se/fmupdate/

This is because of the flight model tuning, the stores drag has been unchanged for a fairly long time. -

They’ll be visual only if anything, no FM changes planned. -

The stores drag was adjusted a while ago using drag index data from the F-14 NATOPS. We obviously couldn't adjust the actual drag of the missiles or else it would affect the missile performance, but we found a way to adjust individual stores drag while they're attached based on the station where they're mounted. The recessed Sparrows have the least drag while attached to the aircraft. -

It's going to be more like a step function than the linear increase we have now.
