  1. Unfortunately not with an Nvidia gfx card :(
  2. For FC2? Excellent, Moa :D
  3. Used this with FC1. Have just bought FC2 and would love to see this upgraded to work with FC2.
  4. Diveplane's site is down .. anyone hosting his FPS mod,..I think it is Flare_Tail (sp)?
  5. OK...I bought Blackshark at launch but never was able to master it. Couldn't get my head round trimming...guess I played fixed wing sims for too long. Anyway, I came back to BS a few days ago and bought myself a new Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X controller to replace my Saitek AV8R. Well, I immediatley noticed a big difference in my ability to control the aircraft. After 3 or 4 days of a couple of hours each day I have finally run one session where i made the aircraft do what I wanted it to do. I was so pleased with the result that I thought I'd share with other rookie pilots. Basically, I wanted to take off the runway, flight to the bridge ahead, circle the bridge a couple of times, and come back in and land on the runway. Of course, this is nothing to you experienced flyers out there, but it was a big deal to me when i finally did it :D Now to learn some of the finer points of flying as I'm still a little clumsy as you will see from the track. PS. Not sure what was going on with the landing - craft kept drifting and I had to keep correcting...crosswind maybe? PPS. Flying with FD on as I find this easier for now. save2.trk
  6. Thanks Dr K.. A really great addon - introduces a semi-dynamic campaign....lovely!!!
  7. I was on the verge of buying a second hand X52 today...but before I committed, i tried using my current Saitek Aviator placed on a small desk in front of me, using only my right hand to control. I should point out that I normally play holding / supporting the joystick in my left hand and controlling with my right hand. I have to say that controlling / supporting the stick with only one hand felt completely alien to me and my ability to control the aircraft suffered accordingly. I'm not sure if this was because I was concerned the base of the stick would move around on the desk (which it did to a degree), my habit of having the throttle on the stick, or what. So basically, I guess what I'm asking, is: a) Is the X52 heavy enough not to shift around the desk (or whatever surface) when playing? b) As above but for T.Flight HOTAS? c) Any recommendations to upgrade to a single stick with throttle (ie Not HOTAS)?
  8. right hand side...it's just to the right of all the other AP buttons.
  9. Thx Nate - nice to see another Irishman on the forums :) I meant to mention, in FD mode, I rarely have to trim. Are you saying that in FD mode I only need to trim for Pitch / Altitude changes? Am off work tomorrow so gonna play around on DCS for a few hours to try and get this down :)
  10. I've given up on DCS so many times, yet keep doggedly coming back to it. I've owned it since release but just cant master Trimming (either patch). Using the rudder would spin the craft out of control; banking for a turn would leave me going in a straight line with the craft at an angle (maybe turning very slowly); etc. But today, I flicked Flight Director on and, although my flying was still all over the place, it was tons better. I could use the rudder (gently) and fly to my chosen point and land! I still haven't even looked at the avionics nor fired a shot - want to fly the thing properly first. Feeling very pleased with myself, but get the feeling this isn't the 'correct' way to fly. Later, when I can do combat missions, will being dependant on FD handicap me in any way?
  11. I've been practising these last couple of hours and have improved..slightly. I've been using FD on and no trimming and I can fly quite smoothly...in a straight line :P I FD off and trim when making small adjustments at low speeds. I still have problems turning though...even when I bank quite sharply, my turn rate us quite low; I've tried increasing pitch as I bank but this leads to a speedy loss in altitude. Countering this with more collective oftens leads to my rotors colliding. And stopping - presumably the correct way is to dump collective and pitch up?
  12. Darn - I just tried that AlphaOne. Did a quick flight with FD on and didn't try to trim and possibly had the smoothest flight yet !!
  13. So would I be right in saying that trimming is not required if FD is on?
  14. Aye..I'd already done that Triangle :)
  15. Here is a track of the problems I'm having. You can see that I trim the aircraft, can see the trim setting on the HUD, and the aircraft does not settle on that trim but veers off. I have the trim diagram (Ctrl-Enter) showing on lower right of screen. save3.trk
  16. Using new trim feature in v1.01. Well, I am flying with FD on and all the other AP modes except Alt Hold. (Basically the only AP setting I change when I get in to the cockpit is to switch FD on). I take off - before making any movements on the stick or throttle, I hold down Trim. I make the movement, release trim, re-centrerstick. I should be flying on my chosen path now, you would think. But the nose of the chopper does not rest on the trim setting I have set (With FD on I can see on the HUD where my trim is set to)...it either slowly bobs back up or down. Same goes when i bank left or right. It doesn't sound like much maybe, but I concentrate so hard on trimming, then trying to correct after I have trimmed as the aircraft doesn't trim to where I can see it set on the HUD, that it is all I can do to fly in a straight line. On a side note, when I bank the aircraft, it turns only very slowly unless I pull back on the stick to increase turn rate. However, pulling on the stick when banking drops me like a stone. I'm obviously doing something wrong  [EDIT] If you have to trim for every movement, throttle change, rudder change, why not just keep the trim button held all the time????
  17. A recommendation from another thread, in response to my poor flying / trimming ability, was to consider a FFB joystick. Can anyone outline what benefits a FFB stick would have over Saitek AV8R (non-ffb) in Blackshark? (Specifically with regard to trimming) [EDIT] If I thought it would improve my flying (trimming ability), I'd go out and buy one today !
  18. Ooohh..I didn't know about that! Thanks MTFDarkEagle, I'll give it a shot :D
  19. I use a Saitek AV8R - non ffb. Thanks for the tips folks - believe me, I've read countless topics on the forums here with advice on how to fly the Blackshark :) In this thread, I really just want to know if the Apache is going to modeled in the same was as the Hokum with regard to trimming.
  20. Oops...Ka52 is the Alligator isn't it heh At the minute I'm using Reticuli's GlovePIE script to help with trimming but I still fly like a brick :P
  21. Bah, after months of playing on and off, I'm ready to give up trying to fly the Ka50. Maybe I'm too used to flying EECH, even though I fly it with realistic settings also. I'm prepared to wait til the AH64 is released for DCS but would like to know beforehand, does the AH64 have the same flight 'characteristics' as the Ka50 with regard to Trimming?
  22. I believe the script automatically trims the aircraft for you. Just follow the installation instructions on Page 1, Boberro - I got it running using trial and error :) Here is a track of me taking off and trying to land at opposite end of the runway, using Reticulis GlovePIE script, FD on and using the original trim method. As you can see i use the cheat method to start engines, etc (Windows Key + Home)....I haven't mastered any of the avionics yet - just trying to get a feel for flying the aircraft. You should be able to see the trim diagram in the lower left of the screen - it doesn't recenter when I re-center the joystick - not sure if this is correct or not. The aircraft's nose sometimes bobs up and down, but is more controllable than without the GlovePIE script. For the most part, I can fly the aircraft somewhat better using this script - although as you can see I am a diabolical pilot. Things have come a long way since Microprose's Gunship :P save1.trk
  23. Well...I messed about for a long time on Vista and Win7 trying to get this to work. Finally I bought a new HD and installed XP on it..have now got it up and running finally :) 1) I've noticed that when I moved the joystick and then let it come back to centre, the trim diagram shows that the joystick is not centred (it's actually showing as though I'm pushing the joystick forward a little). Anything I need to tweak? Or is this normal? 2) With patch 1.01, do I need to revert to the old trim method in the config file, or use the existing (v1.01) method? Either way, great work Reticuli!
  24. Well, I bought Blackshark on release some months ago and i still haven't got to grips with it. (Basically the whole trim / FD thing). For that reason I seldom play. I have read a lot of conflicting advice here on the forums with regard to Autopilot and Trimming. So I was wondering is there an online squad that helps rookies like myself out. If not, is there any interest out there in creating one? Perhaps using Ventrilo or something similar?
  25. Had to contact Customer Support. Whatever was broke they fixed and when i re-logged back in I could get my serial number.
