  1. A U.S. Navy Aegis cruiser collided with a nuclear-powered submarine http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/14/us-usa-navy-collision-idUSBRE89D00X20121014
  2. As Grimes said it's not OTAN because it's reversed, it comes from the way the name of the organization is spelled in Spanish, Italian and French, possibly in other languages too. In Spanish it is "Organización del Tratado Atlántico Norte".
  3. A place to collect military and aviation related news. I'll start with this: The first AESA-equipped Rafale delivered "Handed over to France's DGA defence procurement agency at Dassault's Merignac assembly site on 2 October, single-seat aircraft C137 will enter French air force service with the Thales RBE2 radar. The DGA says it will be delivered to Mont-de-Marsan air base "in the coming days". Source: http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/picture-france-accepts-first-aesa-equipped-rafale-377216/ *This is Military and Aviation News Thread v2.0 cause v1.0, which was the second most viewed thread in Military and Aviation section, got unexpectedly deleted for unknown reason. I sincerely hope this thread would not have the same fate, it's nice to have a thread like this that would collect news in one place instead of having countless threads flooding the forum.
  4. Oh that's got to be the new bio fuel trails implemented. Green energy ftw!

    Combat-Helo

I agree, terrain quality has been one of the main issues with DCS. I'd love it if the next DCS does something really radical in that direction cause frankly the terrain in DCS looks seriously outdated. "Birds of Prey" for instance has gorgeous terrain and it would be great if CH gets to use the same or similar technology.
  6. Judging by how long A-10 was delayed I wouldn't be surprised if FC3 comes out sometime during the winter... 2013-2014. :D
  7. ATD-X 3D model video: Do you know what that lid at 2:04 might be for? Covers the air refueling probe maybe?
  8. See I'm not even Japanese. I will not comment on how I feel about China's politics, ambitions, history, etc. This thread is about a new Chinese fighter and has had a lot of off topic posts in it already. Once everybody gets too emotional and the discussion goes irrational then you cannot get any useful info out of it. "Haters"? "Pity"? "Killing, burning"?... Let's leave that to the nationalistic forums out there and lets talk about the damn plane or not talk at all.
  9. Yet it is your posts that emit hate, nobody here said they hate China. Blinded by pride, patriotism and hate for you neighbors and for everybody who does not see your country in the same light you do, you fail to see the evident. Maybe if you quit living in the past and look at the future with a clear mind it would be for the best.
  10. And maybe you should not derail the thread into political discussions or into how the "bad" Japanese people did bad things to your lovely ancestors, just sayin :smilewink: I can understand patriotism and stuff, but let's not be blind before the facts. You guys lift the term "copying" to a whole new level. "Made in China" is a label that is everywhere known for being something cheap, of bad quality, not durable, a copy of something. So until you guys start making original stuff of high quality and start making it for years and years to clean "Made in China"'s name this is how it's gonna be.
  11. I don't know why F-2 is even brought to the discussion, one thing is developing an aircraft in cooperation and through tech transfer, and another thing is illegally copying an aircraft and putting a "Made in China" label on it which is the case with the J-11. But they obviously don't like to call that stealing or copying, it's simply "an adoption". I mean seriously put J-11 next to a Su-27 and I'm sure the only chinese thing you will notice about that fighter is the PLAAF's roundel on the tail and the gray paint scheme.
  12. One thing is having factories of foreign companies in your country where they manufacture chips and other computer components, another thing is doing them yourself. Whenever if ever that sac 60 or J-21 or TeenageRaptormutant goes into service, I can bet comparing its avionics to those of F-35 for instance would be the same as comparing a calculator to a computer. Just looking at big colorful lcd displays tells you nothing of what's under the hood and how it does its job, i can connect 2 big MFCDs to the dashboard of my car and paint F-22 on its side, does that make it a fifth gen jet fighter?
  13. Judging by the experience the Chinese have with stealth fighters and the lack of tech transfer I'd say it's pretty inferior to what the US have.
  14. Man if I was Chinese I would be ashamed to even look at that obvious F-22 copy. At least J-20 copies several aircraft but this here is just funny to watch...
  15. Surely there isn't a weapons bay on the model but it looks like there is enough space between the intakes to accommodate one.
  16. You don't want these guys to get behind you, you wouldn't like the support they have prepared for ya!
  17. Awesome! And that shape, it's simply perfect. Damn it ED, fix that rep system!
  18. If it's going to look like that then it definitely has the "near future" feel about it. Hopefully it will perform just as well as it looks. There are 2 wheeled APC models on the second image which remind me of the Piranha APC.
  19. A cool video demonstrating tomahawk launches, flight and hits:
  20. It's been a while since the aircraft crashed, anything new in the British media on the accident?
