Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?
Arctander replied to Arctander's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
If the Hornet doesn't get significant system work before Q1 2020 - that could be 6 months it will have had minimal updates, and that to me would be absolutely unacceptable abuse of the 'EA' concept. -

Indeed, it appears to be a bit of a sea change where this type of reasonable, balanced and sane responses to concerns by other members of the community are now the majority, not the minority. I also hope ED gets it, but quickly, not slowly! -
Agreed - BALT is very finickity. Over 10000ft, baro altimeter on, AP engaged with BALT, the colon is intermittent, though you can see AP is indicated on the Left DDI, and gently increasing pressure on the stick Y axis will cause a 'jerk' in the plane when the AP is disengaged to allow human input. Track attached. BALT ap indication.trk

Hi, Noticed while practicing with the Walleye that the 'cage/uncage' button will only 'uncage' the camera. You cannot use it to 'reboresight' the weapon as you can with the Mavericks. Track attached. cannt recage walleye.trk

Well; if ED would hurry up with the Datacard ability so I can have my hornet countermeasures set up properly every time, I wouldn’t need to use the one mod I do use... ;-) Any news on that BigNewy, it looked fairly well defined when it was teased in Springtime, down to the UI being done...?

So of your list: - Persian Gulf: Complete - Nevada TTR: Complete - Normandy: Complete with an upcoming facelifting upgrade Irrelevant - these are maps, not planes. - P51D Mustang: Complete The 'free' TF51 + guns (in essence) - so they have to keep this one up to scratch. - FC3: Complete with constant upgrades even being 10+ years old. Very simple system modelling - A10C: Complete with upcoming facelift Accepted as only graphical. - F5E: Complete - UH-1: Complete Not complete. Missing Multicrew for 6 years, though allegedly now coming. - Mi8: Complete - Ka50: Complete with upcoming facelift and content upgrade So Not complete - Gazelle: Complete with upcoming Flight model upgrade. So Not complete - F86E Sabre: Complete And those two early access ones: - F18C - Av8B So for the Fully simulated ones you own: Complete: A10C F5E MI-8 F86 Not complete: UH1 Ka-50 Gazelle F18C Av8B

I very much hope this too, or that ED 'dials back' the FC3 sensor systems so they are more in line with the fully simulated sensor systems
-
The main example I am aware of is in sensors. The SU27 has an IR sensor that will instalock anything in front of it come rain or shine - completely removing the need to fiddle with radars. And speaking of fiddling with radars - as the FC3 ones aren't simulated it is a much more 'gamified' instant lock vs time to lock, and iirc from what I have read (please others with more understanding chip in) the FC3 radars are less prone to 'dropping lock' while maneuvering. It's not much - but it makes a difference when on the cusp between BVR and (in) ACM modes, especially in MP.

Thank you Nineline for providing the clarity (with provisos) that was requested. -

Haha! Stick the word ‘Project’ in front of ‘Manager’ and that’s me! I did neglect to talk about the information radiator, timeboxes and of course the perennial favourite ‘going forwards’ :-) -
Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?

Which would make it 10 weeks. At what point has the team ‘helped get the Viper over the line’ enough, ED hasn’t said and I’m getting very concerned that it is an open ended move and there is no plan/expectation that they will move back in anything approaching a timescale measured in weeks, hence my request for ED to provide a commitment to time gate the deprioritisation of the Hornet avionics. -

Asking the real questions! ;-) -

That’s as maybe. That’s because it isn’t a concern. It’s a question, and as you say, an expectation That’s because as a manager I also know about the need to communicate richly and manage stakeholders expectations. I also know about the triple constraints of time, cost, and quality. Ed are working to a slowly increasing cost, a ballooning time, and a distinct scope. So what I want to know is has their time plan now exceeded tolerance? If so, what allowances are the directors making for quality ands/or scope or has the time constraint been relaxed so far as to be meaningless. Now it’s very unlikely ED would share that type of information, so I’ll settle for them confirming the status of the resource and a commitment for a backstop -

People like car mechanics must love you! -
While I’m sure ED would like to update stable, I think doing so with the F16 so bare bones would be courageous, as I would expect that the users of open beta are self selecting and generally more willing to deal with... issues. I think ED probably know they’ll get a lot more push back if the F16 is in stable in this state. Shame for other modules needing developments since Sept 10th but has there been much?
-
Ah - clear. Thanks for clarifying.
-
i will stop responding to you after this as we are getting off topic, but suffice to say your threshold of what is an acceptable period of time for product delivery, and the scope tolerance you give ED is far different to mine. I shall say no more on the matter in this thread.

Have the Hornet devs moved back from the Viper?
Arctander replied to Arctander's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Funnily enough, yes I am. But I’m also a paying customer who is concerned that the product I paid for is not being worked on to the best of the companies ability. As a comparison example, If had I paid money for building work, and the building work was going slowly, and my next door neighbour had building work being done that started after mine and I can see it’s the same guys, I would be asking exactly the same question, as would you. Why should ED be protected from others from answering such a straight forward and open question? -
You’re being obtuse. I gave ED money up front for a feature complete Hornet *in the future* - we all understand that. That that is being delayed as the devs who were working on the Hornet are working on the Viper is why my patience is wearing thin.
-
As in the title we have not been told that they have, and it has been 8 weeks now (iirc) since we were told they had (edit: been moved to help with the Viper) Have they ALL moved back? And if not, what is the backstop ED can give us (last date at which they will be working on the Viper before being moved back irrespective of Viper status).
-
I would say ‘everyone but a weapons guy’ is working on the Viper. I too would like to know how much longer the Viper will be consuming Hornet resources. Given I haven’t bought the Viper, the money I gave ED for a feature complete Hornet is currently being used to build something I don’t own, so my patience is wearing thin. I think ED should provide a backstop date at which point no matter the status of the viper, Hornet devs all get moved back (if that hasn’t happened).
-
Wait - if it’s just commenting in a lua file there is really no excuse for not doing it... it would take all of 5 minutes right?
-
Well, the last newsletter said completing walleye, jdam and harpoon modes, than Slam(Er), and only then systems like TWS. So we can expect a slow drip of weapons system modes being activated (in all likelihood buggy) while the important avionics that we are really suffering the lack of are delayed while the Viper is built.
