  1. Yeah, it would make it a lot easier to cooperate with GPU manufacturers if ED starts telling people to buy one thing over another - saying "go for X" automatically becomes an implicity "don't go for Y". ED's goal is to make sure everyone has a good experience, no matter the GPU vendor. Once things are sufficiently nailed down, ED will release system specifications.
  2. Hi Llucmk, Unfortunately, just like with purchases, from this point on all keys supplied here will not be accepted by the Steam system. This is because Valve has to take extra measures, manually, to accept them in their system, and this is not practical for them to do. For this reason, the keys alloted through the backer program will not be accepted by Steam.
  3. You should be able to arrange for zoom with Rift the same way you can do it with TrackIR though? (That is, move your forward/back axis of movement to "zoom".)
  4. I think I'll just stick to my Coffee, seriously... :P
  5. I don't know for sure (I will try to find out), but I unfortunately do not think that it will be Steam-compatible keys. Steam integration of keys from non-Steam sources were not stopped because we wanted to stop it, it is about them causing a major hazzle for Valve staffers. (They require manual integration into the Steam database.) However, do note that you can have automatic updates with our distribution as well, and by adding the simulator as a "non-steam" game on your Steam library, you will still retain Steam Overlay and the associated features. That said, I'll try to get a solid answer for you, if one exists.
  6. Do you know if the Israelis have access to Exclaibur-type munitions? As far as I remember, at this point they're exclusive to the USA and Sweden (the co-developers of the weapon), but that doesn't mean others might not have developed similar systems. Basically though, for those who are not aware, if you have access to that class of munition, a "shelling" with an artillery gun can still be a precision strike with a CEP counted in individual yards at 50km distance. (Think artillery shell with some Hulk-style electronics tested to withstand 10000G's, GPS and guidance fins.)
  7. Yes, media reports are problematic in that sense. I recently saw a report where a GBU-12 strike (in a piece that had it on picture as it fell on the site, clearly enough for me to identify the specific type of GBU) was referred to as a "missile". And while it is in the pure linguistic sense a "missile" (a thrown rock is a "missile" in that sense), it is problematic. So unfortunately it is very hard to know what is actually referred to when a reporter says "shelling", "missile strike", "bombing" etcetera. In the case of "shelling", I'd say they observed multiple instances of explosions in a small area. Whether this was tank fire, artillery, bombs, missiles... Who knows?
  8. As recently having become resident in Ireland, I know a lot of people that would kill me if I didn't point this out: Ireland is not in Great Britain. :P (Ireland is the island just west of the island known as Great Britain.) Sorry. Anyway, to the serious part: If you have any issues with suspected double charges on your card, etcetera, please open a support ticket to have this checked, or talk to your bank to confirm*. While we don't mind you giving us money, we'd prefer you don't accidently pay twice for the same thing. (EDIT: Unless you're planning to gift etc, of course, you know what I mean. :) ) *Note that when using card, there is a difference between a "reservation" of funds and actual drawing of funds that, on a typical web bank interface or ATM slip etc, will look identical. In the case of a "reservation", that is the initiation of a transaction. If the transaction does not successfully complete, the reservation may remain - but have no worry, the funds didn't leave your account, they're just not presently disposable. Your bank will revert the reservation automatically after 5 days. (And yes, I know that's sometimes inconvenient. Try having a hotel do that to you, and then bring your apparently overcharged card to the gas pump... Was not fun...)
  9. A reminder about consumer hardware: that is the lowest tier in the hardware QA ladder. Even "quality" kit doesn't get tested (at component level AND assembly level) as even "standard" industrial kit - since that would raise the cost considerably. Therefore, be careful with drawing conclusions based on a small sample size - no matter what brand, there will be someone, somewhere, that has seen multiple failures on that brand. (Indeed, I've seen people saying pretty much exactly the same about ASUS kit, even ROG-branded kit.) Basically, stuff is unfortunately a bit more complicated than that. And while I am definitely an ASUS fan myself (my main rig is ASUS almost as far as it goes - mobo, sound card, graphics card, my phone/tablet is ASUS, previous tablet was ASUS, previous couple netbooks were ASUS etc), I would not be comfortable making overall quality statements based solely on the experience of myself and my friends. All I can say it works for me, and the prices were right. I do however doubt there is any considerable difference - at least a _predictable_ one, between most manufacturers. If you want to see consistent differences, it is the price segments you want to consider, not really the brand. (Though if you are hardcore, you can always look into the specific caps etc that a _specific_ mobo uses; but don't make the mistake of thinking that mobo X by brand Y uses quality cap Z, therefore ALL mobos by brand Y is of that quality! ALWAYS doublecheck! Because all brands (pretty much) serve all tiers.)
  10. There still are people that would want BS1 due to not being able to meet the system requirements of DCS World, but having no such issue with BS1.
  11. Are you confusing uninstall with deactivation?
  12. That's OEM licenses. Standard, store-bought, licenses are not. They are limited to "one machine at a time". They cost more, but carry that freedom (plus direct customer support from Microsoft as opposed to the OEM). (NOTE: "OEM" includes both "OEM" licenses you buy yourself because they're cheaper (making you the "Original Equipment Manufacturer") as well as HP, Dell, etcetera.)
  13. As a recommendation: Purchase a hard drive, and a windows license (note: not OEM license!). Then bootcamp that, and see how well the game works on your existing hardware. (DCS World itself is FREE, including two aircraft.) If at that point you are unsatisfied with current performance, you can THEN start looking at a PC (or new Mac Pro? the new ones look kinda sexy); and re-use the windows license and hard drive on that separate PC. Or see if there are GPU upgrades available on the Mac Pro that solves it for you.
  14. It depends very much on your location. You can always contact Steam support about this.
  15. To be even more precise, installing also never causes the loss of activations. What causes loss of activation is the use of the simulator on a new hardware configuration or new OS install. For the OP, what is activated is the computer, not the specific install of a module. So after uninstall the activation will remain, meaning that you can reinstall it again without need to activate after that. However, OS reinstall or hardware modification can cause the activation to be lost.
  16. Great idea, it'll be a good step towards ensuring that we get even more support questions about "where are my serial numbers" and "what is this". :) Remember: the majority of computer game customers, including simulators, are not computer nerds like you and me. Most of them are happy they can turn the computer on and run a game or three, and we really cannot except them to figure their way around encryption programs. That said, I do agree with the OP, actually mailing the serial numbers might not be necessary.
  17. Have you verified that the activation e-mails do not end up in the spam box? Also note that they might be interpreted as social media or a promotion (advert), in which case they also do not end up in the main box.
  18. The Torrent link on the download pages are handled by a Tracker at ED. You are confusing the word "server" here, I think: the article talks about, for example, "that kind of site" where you can get stuff for free... ;) The word "server" does not relate to other users, it talks about the torrent trackers. In this case, the tracker is operated by Eagle Dynamics, as mentioned above by c0ff.
  19. A couple things here: 1) Purchasing extra keys will never be necessary solve beta channel access. 2) The separate A-10A and F-15C DLC's contain nothing that FC3 doesn't already contain. You should not install them when having FC3 - gains you nothing. 3) The F-15C icon being visible in the menu after FC3 install is a bug. I'm still not understanding the situation though - from what I can see, there's nothing here that registry deletion would help in, but note that having a module manager or not is irrelevant to that; the registry cleaner will act identically on both platforms - it's acting on the Windows registry, not on game files. What is being activated is the COMPUTER, not the specific game install. The reason why the current price is full on Steam, and discounted here, is that Steam is not running a sale on DCS World right now. It really is that simple. Sometimes one store will have a discount on Corn Flakes and another won't, even though both carry the same brand of Corn Flakes. And in this specific case, again, I do not believe that re-purchasing was, in any way, a necessary part of solving the issue. If the problem is that you cannot access the open beta, could you describe the steps you took in setting it up?
  20. Mastiff, could you elaborate on what exactly you are trying to achieve and what is not working. I am unfortunately not following.
  21. Mastiff, if you are talking about the summer sale, that is on our store, not Steam.
  22. Missiles with thrust-vectoring are kinda cool. ;)
  23. I was speaking generally, since reports of this kind of exercise tends to always end up in words as "win" or "loose" etc. As for realistic/unrealistic scenarios: apparently they think so. Remember: the Swedish Air Force probably does not expect to be fighting Typhoons anytime soon - or ever. But they might want to know how to tango with fighters that have energy- and rate-advantages (like the Phoon, but there are probably more). The Phoons served the role of aggressor aircraft here. Aggressor aircraft do not necessarily play the role of the actual, physical, aircraft they are. Similarly, there might have been other exercises that we do not know about where the Phoons did user their kit. Or perhaps that has already been tested locally, in sweden, against similarly equipped Gripens. Military exercises, aside from full-blown war games, typically evaluate very specific things - they don't slop a DCS-style furball and say "see what happens if you use HMS".
  24. Seriously now. The moment you try to discern better/worse out of something like this, you are wrong. This isn't about "winning" either. We should probably stop using those words. What happened here is this: 1) The swedish air force is integrating HMD's for use with their IRIS-T weapons on the Gripen. 2) They need to develop tactics for how to use them. 3) They got an opportunity to try this out against Typhoons, and developed scenarios for it to test their ideas and get said tactics developed. Within the scope of that, the Typhoons were supposed to lose in spite of the other mentioned advantages that the Phoons have. That's the point - keep at it until you find some way to win in that scenario. We don't know how many other attempts were made with other approaches to the "problem" where the phoons did win - but it is evident from the words of the pilot that he did expect to "die" very fast if it didn't work out quickly. (As is, tbh, the expected outcome for the loner in practically any 2-v-1 fight.) The takeaway from this is: 1) The Gripen is getting some nice missiles with some nice targeting systems to boot, and tactics for this are being developed with some apparent success. 2) The Gripen, thusly equipped, is something that the enemy has to take seriously even in a 2-v-1 popup fight where they have maneuver/energy superiority.
