  1. The input of a MGRS grid is done in two ways. Based on a known point or present position. Either way, the first step is selecting a GZD using the OSBs, then a selecting the 100,000-square meter identifier by slewing the TDC and finally entering the coordinates with the UFC. Even though MGRS is the predominant location format used in CAS, I don't blame ED at all for not implementing it yet.
  2. Try doing everything is the Mission Editor and see if that works for you. Drop a waypoint on the target and ensure the elevation is correct. All you should do in the jet after setting up your JDAM is to select the waypoint as a WPDSG. Otherwise what you're doing is PP mode.
  3. Are you setting the elevation in the ME or the jet?
  4. Marines fly them
  5. I also aim to place the horizontal bar on the target at tip-in. Use the time diving to align your impact line with the target. Once you get the CCIP cross, use a little pitch down to slow the track rate of the cross on the ground before it passes over the target if you're not 100% confident on your solution. The slower you are at the perch (300-350) the more time you'll have to line it up and the higher you'll pull off. The steeper you are, the better your CEP gets but you'll also build airspeed faster. Have fun finding the balance of those and your tip-in height.
  6. Awesome. Thanks for sharing.
  7. It's the proper procedure to use the exact ordnance the controller asks for. It's technically all his once you give him the JCAS check-in and he may be planning to use that JDAM for something else he can't lase.
  8. This got a little off track. The other issue is using a 10-series bomb on a moving target. This is difficult because the bomb would have to lead the target much like an A2A missile does. We have the GBU-54 to do this. It's a dual mode weapon that can use a laser like a 10-series but uses the lasers rate of movement and GPS to calculate an impact point out in front of the target. This way the weapon will not lose energy by constantly trying to catch up with the target.
  9. Did you hold down weapons release a couple seconds prior till the release point?
  10. Sorry to say the best bomb for a tank is an LGB and it's not available till be we get a sensor. You can kill tanks but It takes a lot of practice. Think of it more like lining yourself up, completely trimmed before you plug in to AA refuel. Use the Maverick. They're easy and effective. I like to use it on threats so I dont expose myself with a GP bomb profile.
