  1. I think if you execute an autorotation properly you may not notice the effect he mentioned to me. If you pull collective too soon you'll stop your descent too soon but still have some left to prevent falling to the ground. It's been a long time since he flew the Army Huey and he didn't fly it long as he went on to the Cobra and then Apache when it became available. The way he had me practicing is to flare at 100ft and pull collective at 10.
  2. Greek to me.
  3. It's unlikely I will ever fly a real Huey so if the modeling is a little off it's close enough for me. I don't expect major changes to a module this old. I hope the flight modeling of the Apache is close enough to keep actual Apache pilots interested.
  4. I see what you mean. Will get his opinion our next session.
  5. I've been working on approaches lately and it does require right pedal for coordinated flight until reaching a hover. Will ask my brother what he thinks when he returns next week.
  6. Let me be sure I understand your issue Fapador, you're saying there should be right pedal input required for level flight above 70kts but there is no right pedal needed for that?
  7. He's out of town for a bit right now. Will ask him when he gets back. He's my younger brother. Army 12 years flying various helicopters then an ATP.
  8. Really we're using the Huey only so he can teach me to fly a helicopter in anticipation of the Apache. Also, to get him familiar with DCS and PC sims in general since he never really had any interest in them over the years until more recently as the realism has grown. I have a little real world experience in fixed wings and a lot of experience in sims. He's the opposite.
  9. I'll mention it to him. I just tried it though and pulled a lot of collective at about 100kts and the ball took a lot of left pedal to center. Do you mean it shouldn't or should require more? He also flew the A model Apache when the Army first got them and we're eager to get in that.
  10. Have been practicing autorotations with an ex Army pilot who flew the Huey and other helicopters in the Army. He said it felt like the DCS Huey main rotor had too much inertia compared to the real one. Allowing a much larger margin for error when pulling the collective at the end. Any real world Huey pilot opinions on this?
  11. It's been 25 years since I was an AF maintainer but I suspect it works pretty much the same today. ATC radar has a separate radar set for SIF/IFF and it does continuously transmit interrogation pulses. Those are as easy to detect as the primary radar. Airborne is much more selective in when and where it emits but even if it aims a pencil beam at a specific target any receiver near that or in line with it will be able to detect that emission.
  12. Again, I can only speak to how ground radar operates in regards to this but both the primary and secondary (SIF/IFF) radar emit RF pulses in the direction the antennas are pointing as it spins around. Neither of these emissions target specific aircraft but rather are intended to return a reflected pulse (primary) and request a coded response (secondary) from any and all aircraft receiving the RF interrogation pulses. So, just because you receive the interrogation pulses does not mean you are specifically targeted for a reply.
  13. The top antenna in the pic below is for SIF/IFF. It does emanate RF which is detectable.
  14. Is that modeled in the sim? Dunno.
  15. I don't know about airborne radar but ground SIF/IFF is radar which sends an interrogation code to which a transponder replies. I would think airborne radar operates in a similar fashion. So yes, it is a radar transmission that can be detected.
  16. I've never tried logging in using the same account on two computers but I expect you cannot. Nothing wrong with copying from one computer to another. I've done it many times.
  17. The stuttering was pretty bad for me until I added that file. Then it was like night and day. No stuttering at all. I have a new machine now and I too get an occasional stutter but nothing like without that file. I suspect from me it may be the USB issue with the AMD 500 series chipset. AMD found the issue and a new bios for all motherboards is expected in April. I would expect no stuttering with my new system which is much improved over my old that had no stuttering once I added that autoexec.cfg. Ryzen 7 3700X 32GB RTX 3070 Sabrent Rocket Gen 4
  18. Have you added the autoexec.cfg to this folder? C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config Content of the autoexec.cfg file: no_device_hotplug = true
  19. Yes, that is the file. It goes in your user profile folder so if you had it there before then it is probably still there. I know having that file eliminates frequent pausing or stuttering in the game for many. Since it is related to USB scans, worth a shot.
  20. Have you created the autoexec.cfg file in your user saved games folder to prevent USB scanning after the game has started?
  21. You check the tire pressure? :smilewink:
  22. I had a similar problem. Adding the autoexec.cfg referenced above cleared it up for me and has for a lot of others also.
  23. I have all the modules I want, which is most of them, going back to 2012. I have no objection to a subscription model provided it is optional. Those of us who have bought modules over the years would be unaffected unless we chose to subscribe. Those who opt for the monthly fee would have access to what they want. This would affect me in no way.
  24. Not so much stuttering but occasional pauses, sometimes for several seconds, can be caused by USB issues. You can correct that by creating an autoexec.cfg in your c:\users\<username>\saved games\<dcs folder>\config folder. The content of the autoexec.cfg is: no_device_hotplug = true
