  1. I am just learning the Huey and the cockpit and flying is fabulous in the Reverb. It's really like you are there at this point.
  2. I would take this with a grain of salt but it looks like the Supers will replace the 2080 and below - not the ti. "At the top of the GPU heap is the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER, which is expected to have an MSRP of $799. This is the exact same price as the current GeForce RTX 2080, but the SUPER variant will have more CUDA cores and higher clocks which would make it an even better value." 3. The Steam SS setting may be a lot of the difference if there is any. I see the performance degrade as I adjust it up. Steam sees the Reverb as VR1000-2xxx. lol
  4. Thanks. I'll take a 10% jump in clarity any day of the week. I do keep reading the posts where the Odyssey Plus folks are noticing the blur. I was trying to get the red indicator to come on for re-projection with multiple planes and lots of things going on but so far re-projection seems to stay on with only the light and dark blues. Strange because my hardware (although overclocked) seems slightly less than some of the others with the ti version of the 2080. Must be Settings or the ti doesn't make much difference in this regard.
  5. I consider that good news since there is the possibility the clarity might improve even more although using the Reverb my gut is saying this is really clear now. :shocking: I asked that Microsoft guy on Reddit if every Reverb on 1903 is affected which it seems. Hopefully, he gives me a response. With as clear as my Reverb is I don't see the need for a workaround and will just wait for the update at this point unless it is really simple. ;-)
  6. I''ll try it in one of the A2A missions with three MIGs or so and see if I can get it to come on. Thanks.
  7. I was doing a little checking with having received now two Microsoft updates on 1903. I am curious as to what others are seeing using the Reverb and re-projection with the indicator on. This is in the F-18 on "Free Flight". The VRSettings file has RenderTargetScale set a 2.0 and I have not touched that. I did turn on motion re-projection with "Auto" and the Indicator at the top left of the display set to enabled (True). My FPS then shows a solid 45 FPS no matter what I do with re-projection on (it is low 60s FPS near terrain and 90 FPS skyward with it off). In the DCS main menu I see the green indicator. Flying very close to terrain/cities I see both the light blue and dark blue indicators on. Skyward pointed I only see the dark blue indicator. I have never seen the red indicator displayed. Looking out the canopy next to the ground at high speed is definitely smoother with re-projection on with the Reverb. No doubt the Reverb blows my Lenovo Explorer away.
  8. I have had problems with USB clusters and different versions. IMO they have created a mess with so many different USB ports. Here are the ports now on my ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming MB. This is ridiculous. :( Intel® Z390 Chipset : 1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 front panel connector port(s) Intel® Z390 Chipset : 4 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 port(s) (3 x Type-A+1 x USB Type-CTM) Intel® Z390 Chipset : 4 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue, 2 at mid-board) Intel® Z390 Chipset : 6 x USB 2.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, black, 4 at mid-board)
  9. The US is trying to brand the Gen 2 as the "Reverb" I was told and to de-emphasize the VR1000 which is associated with the low resolution Gen 1. It is confusing everyone. IMO they should have done something different like VR2000.
  10. I bought direct from HP since this is a brand new product that always have some issues. I have chatted with them about half a dozen times on the Reverb and they have been helpful. Mainly tech support but customer service as well. I agree that if you managed to get a Reverb in the first batch and it works most of the time (like 99%) wait for the them to flush out any changes as always happens. Of course past 30 days you are out of the return stage and into the one year repair or replace (if they choose) warranty. Once well established and proven as they become a commodity item then I would check out other options. Right now, though, folks are just trying to get one however they can. Despite the issues HP says the demand is very high (huge backlog) because of the resolution and delays. I would not expect to see huge discounting anytime soon. If nothing else comes out in the 2160 x 2160 arena before the end of the year the price may be pretty stable IMO for a long time.
  11. They are both in the VR1000 Series VR1000-100 HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset 1440 x 1440 VR1000-200nn HP Reverb VR 2160 x 2160 https://store.hp.com/ItalyStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2CZ77EA&opt=ABB&sel=DTP
  12. My Reverb is plugged into a USB 3.1 Gen 2 port. Gen 1 offers 5Gbps speeds, whereas Gen 2 offers 10Gbps. I have no idea if it makes any difference but I have had no issues.
  13. Performance is very good. As good as my Lenovo because just as many pixels were being rendered in the Lenovo with SS. Motion re-projection definitely smooths things out right next to the ground when looking out the side of the canopy. I have run it both on and off.
  14. I was trying to record a few seconds through the Reverb lens with my Samsung Galaxy S9+ phone a few minutes ago to give folks on my squadron an idea of what I am seeing. It turns out (without it mounted) to be very difficult to hold the headset and phone by hand and get a picture in focus. It gives one an idea at least. One lens doesn't give much of a sweet spot. My Lenovo Explorer is so fuzzy by comparison. Colors looks fine. Better in Full Screen
  15. You can change their new default of 10 days to do a roll back so the local files aren't deleted automagically from the last version. IMO they should have left it at 30 days. You can also pause updates. https://www.intowindows.com/go-back-to-previous-version-of-windows-10-after-10-days/
  16. With the Reverb I am matching the headset resolution now in SteamVR and PD is 1.0 for best clarity (no additional SS). I agree that is similar to looking at an HD monitor from a few feet away which some of the reviewers are saying. Very clear but if you concentrate you can barely make out the very tiny pixels. SDE is gone. For me besides clarity the other huge improvement is sweet spot (its the greater majority of the screen now) but I hear that varies with IPD. Mine is 64 mm. My Lenovo Explorer (1440 x 1440) has SDE and is fuzzy by comparison (as you are saying looking w/o your glasses). For me the sweet spot on the Lenovo is maybe 70% of the Reverb. It may just seem so much bigger because it is so clear. I have been switching them back and forth a few times and the difference is remarkable. Spotting things at distance and clarity at night is a huge improvement as well. The Lenovo is still a good backup and good for when sweaty friends visit. I would not want to have to go back to TrackIR now. You are "in" the aircraft with the Reverb.
  17. The properties of a screenshot with the Reverb are interesting. Anyone know where it gets that resolution from? The headset itself? I am on 1903. It is surprising if the great clarity I am seeing is dumbed down because of a bug but I have been surprised before. I have tried this at 180, 188, 190, and 250 with little noticeable difference except at 250 there is a performance drop w/o a noticable display change.
  18. Cool. Although still an issue if yours is affected. Hopefully, they send one out to all of us since mine came directly from HP. :-) It appears the zip tie mod relieved me of seeing any problems. The bleeding edge of technology. lol IMO that thick, heavy, and stiff cable is too much. They don't need that even if there is a lot of data steaming. It must be for heavy arcade use but the connector is a weak point. Then they could skip the connector (but I guess they need it for the backpack). I think they supplied that from a welding distributor. :-) It could be that flexing on the connector ruins it. I have the zip ties like this. I could support the connection itself I guess.
  19. When you say flickering does it flicker from dark to the image mainly or does it flicker to some other image and then back to normal? Is it only one side? Just curious. I wonder if I avoided it by zip tying the cable to the headset strap because mine is silky smooth and spot on tracking and image. Better than the Lenovo is. I am so impressed with it and then I read these issues. I would hang on to it for now with that intermittent of an issue. It really could be firmware although it is weird that it only affects some. I agree that only a small minority of the ones shipped are likely affected and hit the social media. I think the demand is pretty high on the Reverb the way they are selling.
  20. I am sure HP will smooth the Reverb out quickly even though they botched the new product introduction pretty much. To me it appears that the Acer ConceptD Ojo will be the main competitor to the Reverb coming up. While it is being targeted as for commercial arcade uses it will still have a consumer offering and the feature set kind of matches the Reverb. I am betting that price point will be about the same. I agree that if you need tracking (external) for moving around and swinging controllers the Valve Index may be the way to go. I still think the Reverb/Ojo will still be optimal in simulators where you sit and resolution is critical. As for the LCD colors I actually think the blacks and darks are pretty good as LCD goes in the Reverb. The colors aren't HDR or OLED but the sunsets and explosions/fires aren't bad and I have an 82" QLED 4K Samsung TV monitor I am staring at much of the time comparing it to the headset. Of course my buddy argues his LG OLED is better. lol I think MicroLED will replace everything soon. IMO they are all pretty good these days. I guess if you are using the headset primarily for watching movies something else may be better but an OLED resolution of only 1600 x 1440 is a bit concerning after the Reverb. https://vrscout.com/news/acer-reveals-conceptd-4k-windows-vr-headset/
  21. I was going to post that if I squash the headset against my face hard I can barely see that effect on the sides starting to show. I have loosened my headset like three times and it is very comfortable now and so easy to put on. My only nit is down to the heavy cable and tugging you might feel occasionally (I did zip tie the connector/cable to the head-strap and recommend that). The clarity, comfort, and performance is great. My sweet spot is nearly the entire screen at 64 mm IPD. After now some 14 hours using it I can't go back to less clarity. With the performance I am getting I have not tried 60Hz.
  22. I think I noticed no difference and probably just left it there. I cannot get the ghosting to occur. I still think the reason is because the reprojection stops when the FPS get slower when set to Auto.
  23. I may have not pushed the testing enough to see any ghosting. I will see if I can get that to occur. I see them talking about it on the Oculus ASW but it sounds like the reprojection can be more exaggerated (take a much lower FPS and project it up to 90 FPS) than WMR or SteamVR reprojection. It shuts down at the lower FPS (somewhere below 60 FPS) where that is noticeable in Auto? I may try it on all of the time for a short bit. I bet I will see it then.
  24. With re-projection on the FPS isn't accurate. Everything is posted above except the NVIDIA Settings. The only changes I made from those posted were putting the Shadows to Flat in DCS Settings. I see there is an indicator you can turn on to see what reprojection in auto mode is doing at any moment. It should display in the upper left corner. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/filing-feedback
  25. I am really starting to like the reprojection turned on. I was just cruising at about 500 knots 50-60 ft over the ground/runway in the F-18 freeflight on the Caucasus map and looking out the side it was as smooth as it can be and very clear (with the Reverb). I can see detail clearly now. Before it was too jerky to make much out. Thanks FearLessFrog! A large SteamVR update was also just installed. It seems to fix a lot of things.
