  1. That's what I do. Seems to work about every time. The only thing I find annoying are the constant SteamVR updates. They have crashed my sessions at times.
  2. Read the last ten pages or so of the thread. Blacking out is discussed and flickering. I would call HP and setup a support case. HP did issue a technical bulletin on it and when it might occur.
  3. I have the Reverb (about 25+ hours on it) but the Valve Index was my second choice. These two seem to be the major competition now. Reverb wins hands down on clarity/resolution, few god rays, and less cost, and the Valve Index on FOV, tracking, adjustable IPD, and controllers. For DCS where spotting tiny things far away is critical in missions - I give the edge to the Reverb. For games other than sit down sims - I think the Index gets the win. I guess it depends on how you plan on using it, your IPD, and budget. The Index is definitely more versatile. I wonder if the Acer Ojo ConceptD will beat them all for DCS? Clarity of the Reverb but adjustable IPD. Still two camera tracking but I prefer inside tracking myself. It's great to have several good choices. :)
  4. I tried a bunch of stuff in opening order and somehow one time got SteamVR set at 60Hz instead of 90Hz even though WMR still said 90Hz. I never touched a setting. I rebooted and all was fine. Some have issues with the mouse leaving the game window in DCS but there is a setting for that.
  5. So what are your steps exactly? In that article the comments mainly say that the steps given don't work. I realize this is for all WMR headsets and not just the Reverb.
  6. HP had some of these technical bulletins out there pretty quickly. You cannot run any kind of hub or USB extension with the headset. Because of the high data rate it is pretty unforgiving. I can't say I have any real problem with my Reverb unless I cause it myself by wiggling the USB plug. HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset - Display Issues if Minimum System Requirements Not Met The HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset may exhibit various issues including: The headset display is blank (black). The video refresh rate is much lower than the expected 90hz (video may flicker). https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06318083 If you encounter performance issues with your HP Reverb Virtual Reality Headset, please check the following: Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements: Processor: Intel core i5 6th Gen CPU (or better) or AMD FX-4350 4.2Ghz (or better) Graphics solution: NVIDIA GTX 1080 (or better) Memory: 8GB DDR RAM Available Storage: 10 GB USB port: 1 USB 3.0 Video port: 1 DisplayPort version 1.3 Make sure your headset is connected directly to a USB 3.0 port and to a DisplayPort (not using adapters, docks, or converters).
  7. This? I didn't know this really works. How to skip Cliff House and go straight to SteamVR in Windows Mixed Reality https://www.windowscentral.com/how-jump-straight-steam-vr-your-windows-mixed-reality-headset
  8. Along comes Displayport 2.0. 8K headsets are coming. We may go through this again in two years. https://www.roadtovr.com/displayport-2-4k-vr/ "VESA mentions that through the DisplayPort Alt Mode, DP 2.0 has the ability to provide data transmission for two 4,096 × 4,096 VR/AR displays running at 120Hz—30 bits per pixel (bpp) and 4:4:4 HDR with Display Steam Compression. The VirtualLink connector, a VR standard created by a consortium of industry players, was released last year, and includes everything you need to connect the next generation of VR headsets to your GPU with a single, thin cable—support for four lanes of HBR3 DisplayPort for high-resolution displays, USB 3.1 Gen2 (SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps) for headset cameras and sensors, and up to 27 Watts of power delivery." "The VirtualLink standard has made its way onto Nvidia’s RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti graphics cards, combining video, audio, and power into one single USB Type-C port." I actually heard these guys may have folded. StarVR Claims Its Headset Will Be First To Support VirtualLink USB-C Standard ($3200) https://uploadvr.com/starvr-usb-c-standard-one/
  9. The cable is (4m headset cable) from HP's specifications. It seems to be a heavy gauge cable but hard to tell without slicing through it. I see no markings on the cable. It's actually two heavy cables stuck together.
  10. I have not heard of them preemptively shipping them out so my guess is only for reported problems. I was looking through reported problems on the HP forum yesterday and there was less than I expected (less than half a dozen problems posted like black screen or flickering and one guy was from outside of the US because he said the local support didn't know anything about the Reverb) but maybe that reflects how few actually got shipped here in the US. :music_whistling: I know of one other that has a cable coming but from Reddit. 11. There is a revised cable I was told and should receive in the next day or two.
  12. Right. My RTX2080 doesn't support it. Now 4K isn't enough - we want 8K. The three 4K TVs in my house are already nearly obsolete. :D HDMI Output : Yes x 2 (Native) (HDMI 2.0b) Display Port : Yes x 2 (Native) (DisplayPort 1.4) HDMI® Specification 2.1 is the most recent update of the HDMI specification and supports a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates including 8K60 and 4K120, and resolutions up to 10K https://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_1/index.aspx
  13. Something sounds wrong. I just played for two hours and my Reverb didn't even get warm. Also, my IPD is 64 and the view seems about perfect (no haloing or misalignment). There are IPD settings in both DCS VR Settings and in WMR Settings in Windows under Calibration. I have them both set to 64 mm. That is what amazed me the most besides the clarity with the Reverb is the very clear and large sweet spot which is most of the screen compared to my Lenovo Explorer which is crude by comparison. For DCS the more terrain in the view generally the more the FPS will drop in any VR. Flying low and upside down over trees in the F-18 really is really graphics resource intensive. With any kind of flicker, black, or blinking or sound issues I would ask HP for a replacement cable to try before sending it in. Just my two cents. My Reverb is actually performing very well with the exception of me monkeying with the USB plug at the PC one time. I can get a fault with my other USB stuff too if I monkey with the USB hub that connects a lot of stuff together. My 60 lb. dog stepped on it once and gave my Razer keyboard a USB error. lol
  14. The Reverb is hitting the current HDMI standard limitations. There is a lot of data moving really quickly in VR at 4K. DisplayPort has similar capabilities as HDMI; DisplayPort 1.4 can transmit up to 32.4Gbs bandwidth, much more than HDMI’s 18Gbps limitation. This allows a higher resolution of 8K at 60Hz with 10-bit color HDR or 4K at 120Hz to be viewed. DisplayPort also supports multi-stream transport technology, which allows multiple independent displays per port. By connecting compatible monitors through a daisy chain or using a Multi-Stream Transport hub, you can use a multiple monitor setup through a single display output. This format makes it an excellent choice for any type of user who works with multiple displays. The interface is also becoming more popular with PC gaming with DisplayPort support using NVIDIA’s G-Sync and AMD’s FreeSync technology. The sync technologies prevent against screen tearing by aligning the computer’s hardware to the system’s GPU to match with the monitor’s refresh rate.
  15. I noticed that warranties tend to vary by country although i have seen where the EU members get a better warranty than the US sometimes like 1 year for US vs 2 years for EU. I just checked an it still says 36 months warranty. (who knows what it will say in a few months - lol) Start Date May 31, 2019 End Date June 29, 2022
  16. One size fits all in non-adjustable VR headsets only seems to apply to about 70+% of the population. If you are near the fringe of what works with IPD too far outside of their setting, or the distance from the front of your face to the front of your eyes you may see some things cause by misalignment with the lenses. If it is too annoying to use then maybe the Valve Index or Acer Ojo when the come out with adjustable IPD at least will help some of that. I would contact HP tech support and tell them what you are seeing under their initial setup warranty (you paid for that support). Maybe they have an alternative face pad or other suggestions (but likely nothing - lol). It is still early but I suspect their commercial customers may demand some kind of fix if it makes the unit less usable for a good portion of their customers. 17. I would definitely try uninstalling and reinstalling SteamVR.
  18. The connector by the headset on the Reverb for the backpack is a good idea badly implemented IMO. It introduced a point of failure with a flimsy connector.
  19. I guess I would use whatever works best for your configuration. I don't know of a way to move the indicator. There used to be another parameter called "motionReprojectionTemporalEnabled" Temporal Motion Reprojection tracks the motion vectors over many frames to eliminate classes of artifacts that occur by only considering two frames. I think it is always on now and explains why we see few artifacts with Reprojection on.
  20. I just received an email from HP for the replacement Reverb cable (the tech guy said redesigned). That was fast. One day turnaround and one day shipping. HP's repair center is relatively close to me. Nearly like Amazon Prime. Now I am setup in their system. :) I ran the Reverb for about an hour this morning with no issues. 21. No problems today. An update just came out a few minutes ago and I have not tried it since that. It may sound like a lot of complaining but in reality my Reverb has been up 99.9% of the time. For a few minutes the sound reverted back to the PC when I touched the USB.
  22. No fan of HP here but I have had even more problems with Lenovo (had to return my first Lenovo headset for a USB short. It nearly fried my PC.) and Dell in the past few years. The entire industry is a bit sad IMO. I heard that the 2160 x 2160 panels are currently very costly for any manufacturers. It will be interesting to see where the Acer Ojo VR headset is priced which seems to be the only other headset at the moment that can hold a candle next to the Reverb clarity once it is released (Acer PCs used to be the bottom of the barrel). I read in several reviews that there is a struggle to keep the unit price from getting too high. Not sure if that is related. I would have rather paid $800 and have it built to be bullet proof. That said I am not that keen with the USB standard, hardware design, and versioning. It is a flimsy port IMO.
  23. I just chatted with HP support here in the US and they are very responsive which is good news in and of itself. I mentioned that I did cause a USB error (basically lost contact) by touching the USB plug on the MB side yesterday and the USB is pretty loose in the socket. I reinserted it and it was fine after that. They said they would send a new cable out with a confirmation email today which I have not yet seen. The person seemed knowledgeable of the issues and said they think many are cable/connector related. He mentioned they sometimes don't occur until things warm up a bit but things like blacking out, dimming, sound going off or hissing, disconnect, flickering seem to all be related to cable/connector/USB plug. If you post on the HP community forum the QA manager for the Reverb is responding to many of posts (same guy who posts on Reddit as IMAXX or VOODOOIMAX). They seem pretty concerned about making them right. Speaking of warranty - on an unrelated story my Logitech gaming mouse died (second one) and they [Logitech] basically are now unresponsive to their warranty once the 30 day return is past from the retailer where you purchased (luckily the first mouse was DOA so I returned it to Micro Center for an exchange). The second one lasted about 100 days. After no response from Logitech on trying to get a warranty replacement in two weeks and half a dozen contacts I finally filed a formal BBB complaint and magically they contacted me the next day to replace the 602 wireless gaming mouse. I am done with Logitech and went to a Razor Mamba wireless for better or worse that matches my gaming Razor keyboard.
  24. I just registered my Hp Reverb Pro on HP's site by serial number and it appears the Professional models have a 36 month return and exchange. There is also free setup assistance for three months. I think Oculus and Samsung is one year. Of course we may need three years with the Reverb. lol HP manufacturer/base warranty Warranty type Manufacturer Warranty Service type Wty: HP HW Maintenance Offsite Support Status Active: Covered under Manufacturer warranty, 36 months remaining. 25. I had been holding any Microsoft Updates from occurring. I just installed the 6/21 WMR driver update. Did it do anything?
