I put a light on right over head at ceiling level that seems to fix that. :smilewink: I am without a Reverb the first time since June 10th when the first one was delivered (returned second one to Best Buy). Hopefully, HP kicks out some "fixed" Standards soon.

US?

Has anyone purchased and received a Standard HP Reverb Gen 2 (week 30 or later) anywhere? I am returning my Gen1 Standard to Best Buy on Friday or Monday and I have not seen any listed for sale (Gen 2 Standards) yet in the US.

Sebastian on MRTV in the beginning kept saying 140 FOV on the Reverb and how HP was not being honest. lol For some people there is a direct relationship between VR FOV and sense of motion sickness. Be careful what you wish for.

 on the Gen 2. I have heard of a few complain of that alignment issue but I have not noticed it on two. I plan on returning my Gen 1 on Friday to Best Buy but they claim that HP is not yet shipping the fixed Standards to replace it with which is all they want to carry. I may have a bit of a gap without one unless I get another Pro from HP.

I think that is a Gen 2. Great! I see HP store (US) at least has them in stock and says shipping within 24 hours.
-
At least one has a Gen 2 and said no problems so far. I think it was a week 31 build. Maybe Wmacky. I think the guys in Australia are just receiving the Gen 2's first.

That sux. What week number does the serial number say?

Yes indeed. I tested all three headsets (Rift S, VI, and the Reverb) and the Valve Index would win in DCS if not for being a good notch down on resolution IMO. Clarity is so critical to the nature of the mission play in spotting lights, targets, etc. at great distances. Also, in reading many gauges and small fine text. I could care less if the colors are slightly less bright on a tank I need to spot from afar and then blow up. For winning in DCS clarity isn't everything - it's the only thing. :smilewink:

With all of the Windows/Network tweaks and overclocking I am using I get pretty good performance but I would be curious what kind of performance delta folks doing this see with the Reverb by adding the Kegetys shader mod(s). Especially in the F-18.
-
Besides the clarity the other big surprise with the Reverb was that the high native resolution allows for minimum SS and the headsets perform with lower requirements than was anticipated.

Actually, I am seeing some Rift S's for sale as the Gen 2 Reverb's are shipping. I tried to use my Lenovo Explorer (1440 x 1440 per eye) in between the two Reverb's I had/have and I can't go backwards. I guess I would get used to it again but it caused eyestrain. I tested the Rift S, Valve Index, and Reverb in DCS. At this point I would wait for the Acer Ojo ConceptD (same exact Japanese lenses as the Reverb) or another 2160 x 2160 per eye level VR headset if the Reverb was pulled off of the market for DCS. I found out that Best Buy should relist the Reverb in the next week or so to start selling the Gen 2's and then I will get my third and hopefully final Reverb. I see that Amazon now has seven sellers back selling the Gen 2's. I also see the Gen 1's still being sold out there as returns and open boxes. That is a bit disturbing.

I asked the HP QC guy about the week number and fixes. The HP tech guy I was also talking to told me that the issue that developed over time (many hours of use) from the heating was not caught until later on after the cable had been addressed and was kind of discovered by luck by one engineer who happened to catch it on a unit he thought was ok after hours of use. Week 25 seems really early to me to have had that fix in it (he mentioned it about the second week in July which was like 28 ) but lets see if he knows the actual week or a ballpark at least when the all of he fixes were done.

I had taken a snapshot of it and it would go straight to the BBB if they tried to change it. :smilewink:

It still shows a three year warranty. Maybe I should have kept it for a replacement. lol (actually I got the 2nd one (Standard) for about $150 less from Best Buy)
-
Not sure - my first one which shipped June 1st and was the Pro had a 3 year warranty so I never checked it out.
-
They changed the warranties to be the same. You can purchase additional warranty. I would equate the face pad difference to cloth chair vs a vinyl chair cover but the cloth is very fine thread and dark color. Both are removable to clean as is the rubber nose piece. I owned both a long time. https://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/getpdf.aspx/4AA7-4776ENW.pdf

A Standard and a Professional model. I had both. The difference is there is a second short cable in the Professional for using a PC backpack and the face-pad is leatherette instead of cloth. Frankly, I could not tell the feel of the face-pads apart. Both headsets are otherwise identical in every way. Save the $50 or whatever it is IMO. At one time it appeared that the warranty might be different but it seems HP made them all 1 year now.

I think you are stuck with Steam. Once you get the Reverb tweaked it gets closer to a 1080P monitor from a few feet away.
-
Did you install WMR for SteamVR?
-
Thanks but I use the Reverb to play. I only use the big screen for setup using the non-VR load. Also, changing the FOV in DCS can make it fail the integrity checks in multiplayer games because of the advantage.

Update - Voodooimax (HP QC Manager) did respond but I didn't get notified. The Rev. A is a change of the box and not the Reverb unit. "Is the one printed directly on the box on the short flap? Next to the bar code and the part number that reads: L54016-001? That's for the box itself. :)" That would mean they are still Gen 1's but they probably went through the more rigorous testing than the first batch from what I was told.
-
I wondered that. Might be worse. SS might be more efficient outside of DCS. It does eliminate a point of failure.
-
How does it work? Yes week 31 Gen 2.

This 300 page thread? (the way my browser is configured). Maybe for someone new they could start at about the 150 page mark and get most of the important information?
