Thank you @G.J.S and @Zabuzard, I was able to get my fav modual back. I saw in the linked discussion there is a suggestion to make the entire DCS directory excluded from the virus checker. Someone added in that thread that there have not been any reported real virus attacks via DCS. To that all I can say is there's always a first time. Instead, I let my guard down but for only the one file that was quarantined. The heatblur file. I looked it up in quarantine, and selected the "restore and add exception" option. This way, I was only taking a chance on one file. And it worked! Best, Rick

I apologize if this is not the right place to post this. I went to fire up DCS today and my F-4E came up as "not authorized and will be disabled". This is a purchased plane from Steam and I have flow it over the last year off and on. It is legit as are all the other purchased modules. I fired up my heatblur F-14 and it ran fine. It's not even showing in the icon row in DCS as grayed out - it's just MIA. Help - or direct me to the right place please. PS; It is still showing in Steam as purchased and in my library.

Hi Everyone. I'm experienced in single player DCS F-4e and my friend is getting the F-4e very soon. Several years ago I tried to set up something that would allow me and my friend to connect (just us along with AI planes from a mission I make). When I tried to do it several years ago it involved opening router ports which honestly became too much so we gave up. Can you point me to a really good article or video that shows how to (easily) fly missions on the same map together. Is there a service I could use for this? All recommendations appreciated! rick

[Resolved] Keybinds for embedded manual not (always) working.
flameoutme replied to Art-J's topic in Bugs & Problems
I seem to be struggling with the interactive map. Sometimes working beautifully, sometimes seems to have a mind of its own. Also I find that sometimes it messes with the keyboard input. Maybe it's just my technique. That's a possibility. -
First ever DCS: F-4E Phantom II Feedback Thread - May 22nd 2024
flameoutme replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
One thing I really love is how immersive the new Jester call-outs are. While I was playing, I was Mav and Jester was Goose. LOVE THIS. -
I knew, based on the F-14 which was superb from day 1 (with minor exceptions), that behind the curtain at Heatblur were some extremely talented individuals. Extremely. Now we get to meet one of them, Grover. PhD particle physics! Welcome Grover to the board and thank you for making my flight dreams (while comfortably snacking in my seat), a reality. I personally hope you can find time (in your spare time!) to tell us more about the F-4E. But even if you can't, may the force be with you and thank you! Flameoutme

DCS F-4E Phantom II Release Date Announcement- May 21st 2024
flameoutme replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Heatblur as a company stands above and alone in the DCS world. At least that has been my experience. So many software developers set a release date, the work slips, but they release anyways to the disappointment of fans. Riddled with bugs. In fact, I'd say that is the rule today not the exception. But Heatblur has a reputation for wanting to get things right, at least to the maximum extent possible. So if they have delayed release again, I'd rather it be that than feeling the frustration of things not working right. I do feel bad for anyone who has taken time from work for the release. I know it's disappointing. Flameoutme -
DCS F-4E Phantom II on Steam, Merchandise and Keys - News

My $59.99 is burning a hole through my pocket! -
I haven't heard about the '77 and TSQ-96 since way back when I was in the AF and operated/maintained these.

Phantoms Phorever. PRE-ORDER & REVEAL Trailer
flameoutme replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Question: were all the scenes in the trailer in-game? I couldn't tell! (that's a good thing). But I wanted to get confirmation so I could tell my retired air force friend that. -
is there a way to place any kind of marker in the sky for training

THANK YOU!!!!! -
I'm lov'in this module. I put my VR glasses on, turn on my Buttkicker chair vibrator, and fly treetop level across the countryside. What a great feeling. And the basics in this aircraft are... basic and easy to learn. Muchas gracias. I own a lot of modules and this is my new fav. I know it's early access but I highly recommend the Mosquito.

Of course, that's true. And given enough time, energy, investigation and do overs trying to get something to work that was item #57 in patch #4, most people can figure out the new procedures or changes after some effort. But this is no way to attract new players... or in my case... someone trying to get back into a module after being away from it for a couple of years. If anyone thinks that is the best way to attract and grow the community, let me know.

Wasn't trying to slam Razbam. And they do please me lots. But the point is, it can be highly frustrating when the teaching tools provided by the developer are OBE for extended periods of time. I understand that lots of changes would drive costs up with frequently updated tutorials.. but even a work around is welcomed. For example, Razbam could add some text in the Air-to-Air Missle tutorial description such as "The Magic missle firing procedures have changed substantially. Those shown in this tutorial will no longer work." Note: I made this example up. Would that be so hard to do? At least for the most impactful changes.
-
I own the M2000, I highly respect Razbam and think they are right up there with Heatblur as far as quality goes. But I do have what I feel is a valid criticism. And that is the tutorials and with M2000 included campaign... they lag behind the changes quite a bit. Updating a module - wonderful. Making changes and then lagging in the tutorial updates can be, sometimes, worse then not updating the module. Just say'n.
-
Thanks for the feedback. Let me ask a related question. The campaign that comes with the M-2000 was a wonderful tutorial in disguise when I played through it some 3 years ago. It really went out of its way to teach you how to use the M-2000. But even while I was going through it at the time, there were changes to the M-2000 that did not jive with the campaign. Has that been updated?

I have an idea that has application both for post mission feedback as well as entertainment value. And the idea is this: when the mission is complete, the user may be optionally presented with a video. This could be accomplished by hard wired tie in from DCS, OR, by linking in post mission in the same way that DCS liberator (dynamic campaign manager) does it. This later method would require no changes to DCS itself (like DCS liberator doesn't). What can be done if the option to showed a post mission video were allowed? Well, campaign (and mission) builders who wanted to go all out could create video cut scenes. Many, many, many games employ this. (My heart is still in Wing Commander III and IV...). Secondly, sophisticated post mission vids focusing on what happened in the mission could be triggered, e.g,: "You were shot down by an Aphid. Want to watch a video on how to reduce your chances of getting creamed next time?" What do you think? Again, just to emphasize, it would be nice if this was an option in DCS, just like the option to show an image is now possible. HOWEVER, one could by-pass DCS entirely if there was a program like DCS liberator to read the mission file and react.

I just wanted to report that I experience 2.7 crashes. It doesn't happen on 1st flight. When I go to take off again it crashes. I start DCS again, it flies ok, then when I take off again... you guessed it. I don't have mods, my 1080 nvidia is up to date, 32GB memory, win 10 (up to date). i-9700K intel. I do run VR Valve index. Never experienced this level of instability before 2.7 I'm going to roll back now and wait for things to work themselves clear..

Did real F-86F Sabre radar assisted gunsight "calculated" lead?
flameoutme replied to avenger82's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
How is that done? -
Thanks @Tippis and @Rudel_chw. I got it working, but I don't understand why it's working. I, for sure, fly using OpenBeta. It is noted right in the steam game list, as well as the steam properties for DCS. But the path that works every time for the F/A-18 is: C:\Users\Rick\Saved Games\DCS\Kneeboard\FA-18C_hornet ...Sans OpenBeta. As long as it works, I'm happy, but I don't understand why it's working...

A couple of years ago I used to be able to add images to a/c kneeboards, now I'm getting back into DCS and just can't figure out what I am doing wrong. The following example is for the f/a-18, but I can't get it to work right on my F-86. I am sure it is something I am doing. Can you point out what I am doing wrong? My user name is Rick, I run Steam, using DCS open beta. Using the F/A-18 as an example, I've placed .jpgs and .pngs in the following directory: C:\Users\Rick\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Kneeboard\FA-18c_hornet I want to add start up checklists etc, so want the images to always for a particular a/c, in this eample the F/A-18. Any help much appreciated! I've spent hours messing around tryin to get it to work. I also did verify file integrity for the DCS software from steam. Help! Please.
