  1. Will there be "tutorial" like videos by Matt with Mig-29 ? It would scratch the itch a little bit while we wait for the Fulcrum.
  2. The age already shows on Huey, I would love too for them to update this module same as they did with Ka-50, A-10C and F-5. To be honest I much more would prefer update Mi-8 over Huey since it is my most favorite heli, though i think Huey is older module and thus deserves update first. I believe they will eventually update both as ED has already stated that they like to revisit older modules and update them to current standards as far as resources allow.
  3. Yes lets stage a dinner between Kojima and ED and hope for the best outcome ... ooh man but i wish Death Stranding is one of the best when it comes to scenery, if it would only be so easy to "borrow" whole terrain package and throw it in sim.
  4. I think those point clouds come from 3D scan, though I am not sure if it is like the direct method or it requires further tweaking or something. To be honest I have not done my research on that before posting the topic You might be right as it being photogrametry. But it is still thought provoking since we can already see implemented satelite images in some DCS terrains. These images are: - terrain close to Hoover Dam in Nevada -Bláfjoll in Iceland - terrain close to Selfoss in Iceland - mountain range, Shah Foladi in Afghanistan - last two images are near Matterhorn mountain in Alps Google Earth has achieved incredible details in some areas, even at some meters from ground it looks astonishing.
  5. I would say that CPU and RAM impact is the biggest, but this is just me guessing. From what i can tell is that the response time and smothness of display and manipulation of 3D model as point cloud is so much better. Maybe my undestanding of it is completely wrong, though i think that the number of polygons it has to display is significatnly more "heavy" then single points. In cad software (in my case Solid Edge) it sums really quickly if you are to work with layout of industrial machines, customer site, foundation... even if those models are simplified, in best case just shells of originals.

Hi, i am wondering for quite some time regarding performance in terrain maps, if it could be improved by having them created in a way of variable density "point clouds" where depending on your altitude the density changes and thus adjusts the needing resources for display (similarly as the mesh changed in nvidias presentations some time ago). At my job I am wokring with 3d cad software where point clouds are really so much less resource demanding than having fully modeled assembly. I unfortunately have no idea how any of it really works, let alone if this could even be utilezed for games, anyway this is just an idea i have if DCS terrain could actually benefit from something like this if ever implemented (if even possible). Or would it be more feasible / realistic to implement similarly as with Google Earth, where terrain has either good enougth topology with HQ textures over it, or there are much higher quality areas where topography is in super high quality and sort of 3d AI-algorithmic overlay? Though i imagine required disk size for such quality textures would be mind-boggling for big terrain maps as well as loading times, only if streamed through cloud? Maybe stretched and over-excited on my part, as I am not really expecting from ED to implement it ..... but maybe ... just maybe in far far future, terrain topography + satalite images + point clouds combinations might not be just a day-dreaming For eye-candy attached few images from Google Earth.
  7. I do not understand why in this new version we do not have an option of choosing cold start / hot start / ramp start / air start. For me this is the biggest miss. Why exclude the very basics? I hope ED will add these options in the not so far future
  8. You are right the interlocking wings may not be necessary, although looking at the design the whole ''group'' of engines / air intake / and also the wings are moving all together. So it seems to me that for such design keeping wings separable would require additional, probably more complex mechanisms to work. But having them fixed with other parts and making them as part of the whole moving ''group'' it looks like vailid option. Anyway concepts like these at minimum serve as inspiration to others and who knows, it has been few years since this concept came out, some considerations for real development may have taken place

I have just learned about this futuristic concept design named Killswitch (made by PAN SPATIAL) and was wondering what you guys think about it. https://pan-spatial.com/albums/2283555 It really does look like something that might be actually build, realistic but also beautiful design of next gen stealth fighter. I find the most intriguing the change between configurations of different stages of flight / carrier landings / take-offs. Storing missiles in between engines inside fuselage, simple but yet ingenious design. Elevator and rudder to be actually the same surfaces, thrust vectoring I wish this design would be approved for prototype manufacturing ... so that we can one day have it in DCS , even if only a semi-realistic mod. (not a request, this thread is meant just for fun speculations) It just does look right from every angle ...
  10. Previously i had preload radius to a higher values close to max, i think by increasing it would only eat more RAM. I found also suggestions online to keep preload radius between 45000 - 50000 unless spare ram is available. But it seems that on fps it should not have much impact. I tried several times before combination with MSAA and Anisotropic filtering, thought i cannot see much of a difference. But i will try as you suggest 2x MSAA with 80% in steamVR. Although i tried before lowering rendering in steamVR to 50% but strangely no difference in DCS. FSR modified DLL for openvr i do not what it is but i will check it out thanks (idealy i would rather not be using any other 3rd party software for that matter) Regarding background apps, besides DCS all i have running is WMR, SteamVR and OpenHardwareMonitor.
  11. Hello, so i have spent my whole weekend trying to figure out how to best set up my DCS for VR, unfortunately i am becoming to be desperate. I recently was fortunate enough to upgrade to RTX 3080 Ti and also to HP Reverb G2, but i am struggling to get playable performance even with such card in the sim. My other specs: 32GB RAM I7-8700K SSD After starting any mission (multiplayer) i get on ground about 8 to 20 fps (tested on Marianas, Channel map with warbirds). Sometimes i have between 20 to 30 fps but after about few minutes or seconds it drops to about 11-8 fps. What i see in my headset is DCS freezing / stuttering with SteamVR loading window. In singleplayer it is better with about 25 to 35 fps (depends on the mission) but the sudden drops are still there. What is worse is that SteamVR loading window appears extremely often that is just unplayable - happens with both multi and singleplayer - i tested this with Normandy / P-51 Charnwood campaign and Spitfire campaign. It seems that SteamVR is disconnecting with DCS - on ground, at flight .... everywhere. I am only playing DCS in VR, previously with GTX 1080 (non-Ti) and Rift S i was not experiencing as much stuttering and i NEVER had SteamVR loading window appeared. I was trying to get reasonable performance by changing settings in DCS, NVIDIA, WMR, SteamVR but even putting VR resolution to 50 percent in SteamVR and later in DCS to 0.5 did not helped at all. In the screenshots are my final settings. In DCS setting MSAA was turned off, Anisotropic filtering was set to 2x, terrain textures were set to low - none of that seems to influence the stuttering / SteamVR loading. I only managed to get slightly better performance with terrain detail set to 0.2 - but still as i have mentioned i have 8 to 20 fps on the ground and 30 to 45fps in the air. Unfortunately it does not end there, even in flight where i have 30 to 45 fps i experience sudden drops from about 40 fps to 17 fps for a second, then to 35fps, to 22fps to 37fps ... and so on. It stutters so much that i just have no choice just to quit the mission. Restarting DCS DOES NOT HELP. Also other thing i noticed is that with WMR and SteamVR after starting mission in DCS and with mentioned 20 to 30 fps on ground after few minutes it drops to 11fps - when i checked Task Manager, i have noticed that suddenly SteamVR has 6 or so new proccesses. I also tried to end these proccess, but after few moments there are another sudden fps drops either way. It looks like WMR and SteamVR are not 100 percent compatible with one another. Please let there be a way to just play DCS with WMR software only. If anyone knows of some possible solution i could try please let me know i will be very thankful. I am now starting to think that the problem is not in setting the graphics but maybe in my RAM, since it struggles mostly where there are a bit more populated maps / or in multiplayer, but 32GB should be enough at least in singleplayer or not?

  14. Hello everyone, i would like to hear your thoughts about Caucasus map but set in WWII era, what do you think? From my side it is just a rushed idea, i do not know much about areal operations in that period and that setting, though if ED or any 3rd party would create the same map with current graphics and WWII setting it would bring a ton of possible operations players could recreate (either realistic or fictional). Even though there is already Caucasus in the game, i know it would still have to be created from the scratch, but i think this would be worth it. Honestly i hunger for graphical eyecandy Caucasus. Not get me wrong the current map looks good, but compared to what Syria or Marianas looks like you can see the ''defects'' of this map. I like flying in mountainous areas, over various forests / jungles, valleys... This map would have it all, also for future WWII carrier operations. I hope WWII assets pack will keep expanding, and with this map there would be even more reasons to. (And of course i am not expecting free stuff) Feel free to share your thoughts.
  15. Ooooh ... i am so happy that i bought this module, i was previously with doubts since i already have four WWII fighters, but when i flown this one ... ohh hell yeah. It does really bring a different experience, one i totally did not expected. I love the instruments real feel how the needles behave. The scale of the cockpit looks great, the height from the ground is noticeable in VR and when i took off i had that ''real'' feeling of taking off which i unfortunately very rarely have. I think i have fallen in love with this bird already and it has been only about an hour. ED you did your best and it is excellent PS. i must add that the sound is incredible as well, not only the engines but all the sound in cockpit ... i think i am melting
  16. 1. will do, but once in a lifetime it just happens 2. this does not work for 90 percent of the time for me not even with afterburner The issue is as i have mentioned in campaign with Viggen, because of that i cannot pass to the next mission I do not own F-15, but it does not matter since every plane gets stuck on grass. Despite that real Viggen was build to be able to land not only on concrete airstrips. Though i wish the taxing in slow speeds would not be an issue for any aircraft (no breaking speed records on grass). I know jets are not supposed to be on grass but why not to allow slow taxiing (cannot move not even with full afterburner because of grass?? come on !!! )
  17. STUCK ON GRASS still present .... generally i am avoiding taxing on grass since i got stuck with every plane every time, but this is a huge problem when it comes to completing campaigns. Specifically with Viggen in the Wrath of Thunder, where we have to land next to airport and taxi on grass. Please ED, can you remove this frustrating feature? or at least make it an option to turn on / off.
  18. You are right, after i changed the GPU and power supply i noticed the clock was two hours past but i did not payed attention to that and so started DCS. In between i synced the clock, later i started DCS which finally worked. I would not figure out this was the reason. Thanks, now i know what caused it.
  19. So i tried to start DCS one more time, this time there was no authorization problem, though i do not understand for what reason previously (started up 3 time) it lost the authorization. What i did as maybe helped is that i started DCS_updater as admin (no update available). Sorry for creating new topic, the problem seems to solved itself.
  20. Dear ED team, after i started DCS World immediately i got ''Authorization failed'' message, after clicking OK it asks me serial number to every aircraft/ terrain/ campaign i have. After i filled serial numbers in (for some there are already no serial numbers to provide) and loaded DCS i still cannot fly. In attached picture are modules i could not fill the serial numbers, i tried an instant mission with M-2000 and Viggen, with both the sim puts me in the map view and i cannot get into the cockpit. I have not tried the others but i suppose it will be the same. Please help me solve this issue. Today i changed graphics card and power supply, i doubt that this has something to do with it but i rather mention it since before that everything was OK. Best regards Matej

  22. Hello, first of all thank you very much for your hard work on this beautiful aircraft and providing it available for everyone. Unfortunately i cannot figure out how to install this mod. I have put VNAO_T45 file into directory: DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft. And according the SRS_README i have to put SRS file into Scripts file, but i do not have it in my directory so i created it and copied the file there. When starting DCS a window pops out and the aircraft is disabled. I do not know what else should be done or i should have done differently, could you please assist me with this installation? I would very appreciate I have version 2.7
  23. I would love to see Wags posting some video of him flying the Mosquito, similar to what he did with the F-18. Keep it simple, start-take-off-flying around-land. Hell even maybe if possible he could be flying with Mosquito in new Marianas map
  24. This is incredible, great work. I would love to see more if you would ever continue. By the way, imagine DCS comics in style of Romain Hugault - his stories are pretty good and art is just outstanding.
