  1. Should small caliber HE rds be able to penetrate into the fighting compartment at all if the vehicle is buttoned up? I would expect it to maybe do some external damage to optics, antennas, tracks, wheels .... for the effect of a mobility kill at the most.
  2. :D Guess i should for the "NATO" version. IRL the RU HSI does have a "C" on it, i just double checked.
  3. @ pitbull, Regarding the marking on the ADF CHN knob, I´m not sure, do the stock textures have a marker in place? If not, don't know whether it'll be possible to add without any adverse effects in other areas ... texture mirroring, etc. @ goldfinger35 it shouldn't be a problem mix-matching textures. Correct. Before inserting KA-50 DASH-BOARD ENG back into the cdds, i'd test it in the /temptextures folder, as you will probably need to make some tonal/brightness adjustments to the shkval/abris parts, to fit the stock textures.
  4. What's that got to do with the OT? @ Itael, yup, there's some inconsistency in the damage modelling, as in other parts of BS. I read some of this will probably get adressed with the patch.
  5. Well, it's the big cousin of the black shark :D
  6. A small update; some detail changes made: > > > Thoughts, suggestions, HR reference material? I´m still looking for a pic of the L-140 display unit.
  7. Yes, voice sampling in OFP and all it's incarnations sounds like this reads My take is war often does this peoples faces. :noexpression: Though skin colour in general looks somewhat weird.
  8. @ Conveen, by extracting the files into your /TempTextures folder you are going to notice a performance hit ingame, i.e. longer loading times, microstutter and lower framerate. This method is not recommended. The final version comes as replacement .cdds and modman package. Shouldn't be too long now till it's g2g.
  9. There are previews popping up everywhere, seems the release is close. For those interested check http://www.armaholic.com/
  10. It´s a bit early on to judge on OFP:DR. Just as i wait for Arma 2 hitting the stores and people rushing out to get it. I´m more interested in reading user reviews than some gamemag article, or fall for some nice cutscenes published. The feature list of Arma 2 doesn't look that impressive, i´ll just wait and see how it compares against a modded Arma.
  11. 1. overestimation of own capabilities 2. bad decision making 3. bad execution To sum it up, the pilot.
  12. Try using your wingman if contact is likely. If on attack route and nearing battle position i´ll send him out a few KM while observing if he draws any fire, and the location it's coming from. He will also send you information via the DLink. Generally i try to destroy targets at max. standoff range the current system allows for, it gives me some time to assess, maneuver and react to missiles that might be send my way. As for evading - your best bet is putting some object between you and the missile. However, most of the time i have trouble dodging them if no objects are around, i simply cannot get a high enough angular velocity and at the same time stay within the flight envelope.
  13. :D no, i didn't expect to strap myself into a virtual BO-105 when there's a KA-50 on the product box. But i would guess KA-50 pilots make use of tactical terrain features just as other helicopter crews do. At least for me, colidable and AI LOS breaking trees are not a bonus in a military helicopter simulation.
  14. Yepp, trees are just eye candy and serve no real purpose ingame, except blocking the players view. :D I was hoping for something like this when first firing up BS:
  15. Hi Timm, there should be 2 different files for panel lettering, the unlit one should look like this: Guess something happened while converting it to .cdds, will get fixed in final.
  16. Hi, among other things i´m currently reworking the warning lights. Having just the letters with a slight glow lit up was a decision for better readability. Some proposed removing the glow altogether to make the lettering stand out even more. best regards TangoRomeo
  17. Thanks Ricardo, but wouldn't that be somewhat overkill - i mean it's about 4x stock filesize if doubling the res. With a total of 52 textures that's quite a chunk for systems that do not have large amounts of RAM/VRAM installed ? I got some good results with applying the unsharp mask filter on some panel parts. Anisotropic filtering and FSAA is also a must in this game. best regards TangoRomeo
  18. Hi Devas, of course, please go ahead! To anyone wanting to modify, or build your own based on the set - you don't need to ask for permission - just do it. best regards TangoRomeo
  19. Maybe a tad darker, with some lighter spots on parts that are always exposed to the sun. On the left i tagged a digital aproximation of FS34031 factory finish. That should be reasonable close to the colour on a brand new AC. Depending on the operational area / exposure to elements/sunlight this would become lighter over time. I think somewhere between factory and 10% white should be good. That's the theory. Ingame it might be different how colours, and especially surface properties, are displayed. Trial&error. It´s a good start though.
  20. check this out http://walkarounds.airforce.ru/avia/rus/kamov/ka-50/index.htm http://www.rebtechnologies.net/EC-130B4.htm Thanks Chazz, i already have the first one bookmarked. Specifically i´m looking for a pic of the L-140 LWR display unit. I´ve also found an interesting pic of a KA-50 with a light blue/gray cockpit: Anyone have more info on this?
  21. If it wasn't for performance detoriating below acceptable levels, i´d be using it. Hope ED will include HDR support for their next sim.
  22. Looks good, i like the weathering. :)
  23. Thanks guys, i´m glad you like it so far. :) Skypat Wow, i didn't expect you to assemble and upload the ModMan package this quickly :D Thanks again! I edited the original post accordingly. hitman i found the original night lighting way too bright when flying w/o, and certainly with NVG. I´m aiming for something more subtle, that won't completely white out when NVG´s are used, and that doesn't have a harsh contrast between inside and outside in darkness. More something along those lines: Distiler Thanks, AFAIK there are several people working on cockpit textures. I hope they release their work also, so everyone can pick an alternative to the stock cockpit that best suits him. @ all, as this is beta, some things might change for the final texture pack. If anyone has detail cockpit photos of the KA-50, feel free to post it , it's going to help alot.
