Damper and friction effects in force feedback for Black Shark
monsterZER0 replied to average_pilot's topic in DCS Wishlist
Just wanted to drop by and say thanks average_pilot! I downloaded this and it works GREAT with DCS:P-51 and my MSFFB2... This is EXACTLY what MSFFB2 owners need; you should definitely put this up over at SimHQ or Hovercontrol. I'm actually looking forward to flying helo's in Arma2 now, as they used to suck with my FFB stick. :joystick: Please continue to work on this project! I would definitely be willing to pay for more options! -
Which 27" TFT would you prefer?
monsterZER0 replied to Weasel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I think it's down to personal preference, really. Kuky seems to prefer a higher resolution, which is understandable, but for me personally 1080 vertical looks great. And I use a 32" LG. Different strokes for different folks :smilewink: I think we're at a point in time now as well, where even the lowest end TV's/Monitors are MORE than sufficient for flight simming. I would personally go for the biggest monitor/TV for the least money. It's a good time for gaming, and it's only gonna get better, methinks. Hell, I remember not too long ago playing Descent on a 14" CRT monitor at probably 320x240 or something similar, thinking it was awesome! -

DCS A-10C final benchmarks
monsterZER0 replied to RSharpe's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Holy CRAP!!! You have your 2500K running at 5.0GHZ!? What kind of cooling and temps are you running? God I can't wait to get mine. Just waiting on the B3 Stepping mobos to hit the market... That IS weird that you took a hit on frames, too... I definitely am getting much better performance than the beta. -
Hey guys just wanted to let you know the first video for my Let's Play of LOMAC is up on my YouTube channel. I love watching LPs and there are not many for flight sims, so I figured I'd give it a whack. I recorded and narrated the mission in real-time, but for the video I spliced in some scenes from the replay track to spice it up a little bit... I'm doing the A-10 now, and I intend do one for the Su-25T as soon as my skills improve a little bit. My ultimate goal is do an LP for DCS A-10C, but it might (read: will) be a WHILE before I'm proficient enough for that... :P

I will DEFINITELY be looking forward to this. I am attempting to make the transition from my beloved A-10A in LOMAC to the DCS A-10C, and it's been pretty rough, lol...

A-10 vs. Tuguska play by play...
monsterZER0 replied to monsterZER0's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks, Blaze! +Rep -
Hey guys! I already put this up over at SimHQ, so forgive me if you're having Deja Vu, lol... I'm starting a 'Let's Play' series of videos on my YouTube channel for the A-10 Campaign in Lock On Flaming Cliffs 2.0. I'm still doing some simple self made 'training' missions right now, and this is one of them. I am attempting to get some practice at attacking AA missile platforms (I HATE them) and after 2 unsuccessful, head-on assaults I manage to utilize the terrain effictively and take out the big bad Tunguska. I am doing this LP in sort of a casual manner, for a non-hardcore audience, so don't expect a 100% military style AAR here, lol, although I think you guys will get a kick out of it... I've played through the first couple of missions in the campaign for FC 1.12 a year or two back, but this is going to be my first run in FC 2.0, so any tips would be welcome!! :)

Takeoff direction at airfields?
monsterZER0 replied to monsterZER0's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Ahhhh... Makes sense now. I'll try that, thank's guys!! -
Hey guys, I did a search but all the results were referencing Flaming Cliffs 1.12 or lower. I know in FC 1.12 all you had to do to 'set' your takeoff direction at a particular airfield was to put a slight headwind down the intended runway in the editor (does that make sense, lol?). I'm now using FC 2.0 and that old trick doesnt seem to work now. It seems that regardless of what direction I set the wind to, my takeoff direction is set to the opposite of how I want it. Frustrating. :joystick: Does anyone know how to get around this problem in FC 2.0? Thanks

Unfortunately I never did play Thunderhawk or Commanche. I'm a (relatively) late bloomer when it comes to flight sims (spent the 90's and early 2000's playing Quake and the like, lol) so I missed a lot of the golden era classics... Didn't really discover flight sims until late '07 when I bought LOMAC on a whim, which led to DCS, FreeFalcon, so on and so forth. This game is surprisingly fun and addictive, however. If you can find a reasonably priced copy (the going prices on amazon are just absurd. A new-in-box copy is $125.00!!!) I'd would recommend you give it a shot. I only hope the new Apache Air Assault is half as fun... Thanks for watching though guys, means a lot :)
-
Hey guys, I don't know if any of you watch Let's Play videos (I personally am hooked on them ), but I started one on a pretty cool 'light' helo sim called Apache Longbow Assault. The game is ridiculously fun and has a believable flight model. Check it out if you have a free minute, they're pretty entertaining. And feel free to comment on my horrible Apache flying skills... Up to mission 8 already. Having a little trouble with this one, lol... :joystick: http://www.youtube.com/user/decep3107#p/c/D826B25916ABF90F/7/xcHRdbdawZc (Edit): I tried embedding the video but it didn't work so I just put up the link to the newest LP

Any Logitech profiler alternatives?
monsterZER0 replied to mig29movt's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Try XPadder. It's $9.99(us), but it works great. I use the logitech software for my G940, but I have a "TM Hotas X" cheapy controller for my laptop that has no programming software that I use it with. You can store up to 8 different modes and map any button/axis to anything. -
Nice. Do you know which file is which, however? I see two x64 versions, lgs510 and lgs510j...

:surprise: Holy crap, man. Just checked out your 'pit. I bow before it's greatness :worthy:

I found the fix:). Man it was driving me crazy, cause there's a bunch of fixes out there, but the one I was thinking of was just a simple value change in one of the .lua files and i just couldn't find it. Definitely gonna write this down in case of another reinstall. Anyway, the fix (that works for me, at least) is: in the 'snapviews.lua' file, located in config/view, change the following value: Snap[2][13]["viewAngle"] = 219.777544238285 @BaD CrC - I've never checked my exact framerate in game, but it's always playable. I never noticeably slow down. I'll check w/Fraps tonite and let you know... Graphics maxed out (minus heat blur), Core i5, 4Gb Ram, HD 5850 1GB, 3 1900x1080 monitors running a combined (w/Bezel Compensation) 6048x1080.

Review Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas
monsterZER0 replied to 3Sqn_Sven's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Funny I just dont see it as a toy. Yeah compared to a 300 dollar setup I can see, but the thing works. I can takeoff, nav to target, engage, RTB and land just fine. So for a 'toy' it seems to do the trick. Durability hasnt been a problem yet, like I said I used the older version for several years and it still works today. My roomate uses it now for our IL-2 nights and frankly he beats the pants off most of our group of friends. Granted, I've only had the HOTAS X for a few weeks but it seems just as durable. Not everyone can drop 300 bucks on a whim to get the latest whiz-bang HOTAS, and for those people I would definitely recommend this. Or even as a second, knockaround stick (what i'm using it for). "You get what you pay for. This is a toy not a HOTAS. I agree this thing is a POS. Out " No offense, mate, but that is very elitist and snobbish sounding... (at least to me) -
Review Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas
monsterZER0 replied to 3Sqn_Sven's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Wow man, I think you're unfairly bashing this stick. I understand you have a few gripes ( I counted 2), but you said yourself you used it's predecessor for 7 years, calling it 'Durable and Accurate'. This stick is pretty much identical in every way to the old Top Gun HOTAS (used one myself for a few years), and while I do miss the Thrustmapper software and ease of programmability, the trade off is several extra (and welcome) buttons. Your two complaints are minor, the swapping of axes is super easy, with no software. It's all built into the stick. And while you can't assign the buttons with the built in software, just download XPadder. Works like a dream and you can assign ANY button or axis on the stick to ANYTHING you like. The stick is great, in my opinion. I used to use it as a secondary stick with my laptop for travel, but lately I've been using it on my main rig, as it's quick and painless to set up (compared to my g940). This setup is DIRT cheap, even if you factor in the $9.00 cost of XPadder. The highest price I've seen this stick go for on amazon is $34.99(I paid 24.99 on sale). That's a STEAL for a HOTAS. And while the button programmability isn't there right out of the box, you don't need it with most flight sims (they let you assign buttons in their own setup), and if you really do need it, download XPadder for full programmability. Anyway, just don't want to see this stick unfairly get a bad rep. It's the only HOTAS out there for less than $100 US(although the I see the x52 on sale very often for under 100) and it does the job quite well. -
WOW, are those pedals new? They look waaaaaaaay better than the usual Saitek pedals I've seen.

Ok, i've definitely gotten eyefinity to work with DCS before, but I just reinstalled after about 6 months away and it is not working at all. I did a quick search and I can't seem to find the fix I used previously (i'm pretty sure I found it on this forum or possibly SimHQ). My resolution is 6048x1080 (with ATI's bezel management), and in DCS when I select that res and '1 screen' in the options screen, the center monitor is fine but the side monitors skew at awkward angles when I look around (trackir) making it all but impossible to play. On the other hand, when I select '3 screens', all three monitors are perfectly aligned but my FOV is so close it's like I have my face slammed up against the HUD, lol... I'm using the weird aspect ratio that the game defaults to at my res (5.6), because I remember that was important. When I change it to any thing else really strange things start happening, like the image flips completely upside down in-game. Any suggestions, or maybe someone can shoot me a link to the fix? Thanks!

another nail in the coffin of the sim industry
monsterZER0 replied to ChromeWasp's topic in Chit-Chat
Dude, you STILL haven't posted your system specs either. Are you attempting to run it on your laptop with the integrated graphics you mentioned earlier? If so no wonder... :joystick: I've gotta say, however, this is by far the most entertaining thread I've read on here yet, and I've been lurking for years, lol... -
