  1. Things like these will always be boring to some and awesome to other people. So who is to tell who is right or wrong? Certainly not one of us. That's why things like these should always be optional. People who like it can enable it and others can ignore it. And as I suggested ED does not even have to fully implement any of this. Simply give us the right API / tools and ways to export / import aircraft data and modify systems and we - the community - can take care of the rest. I for one would be very interested in something like that and I guess I am not the only one.
  2. An addition like this would be pretty great, because with persistent plane(s) that you carry through a campaign there would be a good reason to perform all those preflight checks - other than immersion. You would have a real incentive to handle your engines and other systems with care. Would be brilliant if something like this could be added to the simulation. To be honest I wouldn't even say that ED has to build all this by themselves. The "only" thing they would have to do is to give us functionality to read, modify and influence the aircraft and system state inside and out of the game. Then the community could build their own "hangar and maintenance" management sim all around the game by itself. Actually a couple weeks ago I already took a look at all the Black Shark scripts to check if something like this could already be implemented. But it looks like too much of the juicy stuff is not exportable from out of the simulation. A pity because an addition like this could have sooo much potential.
  3. LOL OK, I'll take a look around. :)
  4. Is there a version of this video that is not unnecessarily wrapped inside an EXE file?
  5. A classic! :megalol: "Nope."
  6. And those Apache pilots probably knew the terrain they are flying in pretty well. LOL right, I can already see that one coming up a couple of times. :)
  7. As these trim / autopilot / FD threads come up all the time in the forum it makes me wonder: What will be the next big thing in DCS Warthog? If the A-10C has none of these controversial or hart to explain/grasp functions like ye olde favorites above then the Hog forum will surely be an empty and deserted place, filled only with praise threads for ED and the occasional tumbleweed floating around. But somehow I doubt that it'll be all that easy. :)
  8. Awesome video!
  9. True, I was talking about the simulation of course. I can fly both ways comfortably, with or without FD, but I deliberately choose FD most of the time because of the joy of flying the Ka-50. But in reality there would only be one way, you are right.
  10. I fly with FD on 95% of the time. I disengage it only when I have to take a closer look at the ABRIS or in boring route mode flying. The AP reduces the work load of the pilot and the chance to crash so that's probably why real pilots should fly with FD off most of the time. Neither system or way of flying is better, both have their advantages depending on the situation.
  11. Oh my, this looks absolutely awesome! And I mean both DCS Warthog and the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS. Without a doubt I'll buy them both once they are available. Absolutely stunning! I feel like a little kid waiting for christmas. :)
  12. Let's all gang up, invade a small country and start our own military!
  13. Damn you! I cant wait! I cant wait! *cry* ;):)
  14. True that! Once in a while after finding another neat little detail or learning something new that I didn't know before I have to lean back and start giggling and thinking "oh my this is so brilliant". :) What still amazes me is at what pretty low price we get all this. I mean ED could charge 100 Euro for Black Shark and I wouldn't complain.
  15. 2 days is pretty fast for Black Shark.
  16. To be honest when flying with Flight Director I usually ignore the additional data that FD displays in the HUD. Only things I watch are speed, altitude, a possible steerpoint cue and most important: the vertical velocity indicator. Bank, pitch and heading hold autopilot channels are engaged all the time. And you still have to trim. Most important thing to remember is that while FD is engaged the autopilot won't "interfere" with your input and won't try to force the aircraft to a set attitude. Flying with FD engaged is the same as holding down your trim button and flying around. In the end it's a lot about personal preference. A lot of people fly without FD and some fly with FD engaged. Personally I choose which one fits best for the current situation - and in the end I still get shot down by the enemy... But that is a different matter... :smilewink: :music_whistling: I'd say in the end you should be able to fly both styles but at the beginning try to learn and fly comfortable with one or the other.
  17. Same here, I usually fly with Flight Director on most of the time. Only time I disengage it is when I have to work with the ABRIS or in a hover attacking targets or some "boring" route flying. I think it's best to learn flying the helicopter with FD on and once you are able to fly it then learning and enjoying the benefits of the auto pilot.

Nice! :) This looks like a huge pile of work.
  19. Sure an Apache would be nice to have but I'd prefer other planes first. F-18 or F-16, Su-25T, Su-33 or a Hind. But frankly after the Hog I'd love to see a "DCS: Dynamic Campaign". One can dream... ;)
  20. well done I installed it over 1.0.1 as well, works like a charm. The new sound engine works great, and I for one like the russian-voice-in-russian-planes change even though I dont even speak Russian. Maybe I should finally start and learn it - they call it "study sim" after all... ;) Another job well done, ED. :)
  21. Just downloaded the 720p and 1080p versions without a problem. Pausing and resuming one of the downloads worked as well. (I was using Firefox, BTW).
  22. After reading about the possible little problem with the downloads I only downloaded the iPod version of the first lesson and gave it a quick peek. Let me sum it up in two words: Masterly done! :) Cant wait for the next sessions.
  23. Very nice, this is great news! Oh and brilliant video again, GA. :)
  24. Well... Is there more to see than this one picture? A video maybe? Because to be honest for 120 graphics cards this still looks rather crappy to me. I would have expected something better looking.
  25. I think the first video looks very nice and although 50$ sounds a little steep to me I would probably buy one. Good job!
