  1. Yesterday I sat down and decided to have a look at the Flying Legends DVD trailer and my 18month old grandson wanted to see Bumba on youtube so I told hime he would have to wait and he could see his Bumba after I had seen the aeroplanes. Well he watched the video of FLying Legends with me and it was all Ooohs and Aaahs and when I went to put on Bumba he protested and kicked up a fuss until I put on more aircraft. He giggled and pointed at the screen and made noises imitating the aircraft and he was just as enthuised by the cockpit shots as the external views. I did notice that he was slightly more thrilled by radial engined aircraft than in-line or V engined, when the Corsair did it's run-up and flyby he loved that as well as the FW190. Jets he wasn't so bothered about but we see F16s every day here, all he wanted was to watch aircraft all day and when his father came to pick him up in the evening he did not want to go home. Looking forward to taking him to Sanicole Airshow this summer :D
  2. I was invited to fly a small "airliner" and the most difficult part of it was keeping the three engines in sync, it was the most boring flying I have ever done other than riding in the back with the other passengers. The landing was exciting tho, the BN Trilander had quite a steep final aproach and the pilot wanted to demonstrate to me it's short field performance :shocking:
  3. What are the mole grips for? Enquiring minds want to know :D
  4. Is the P-51 hot enough for the sidewinder to lock-on to it?
  5. SSD is the way to go, I use one in my laptop an Intel X25 160Gb and it loads from a cold boot in slightly over 10seconds, from hibernation a swipe of the finger and it is on in less than 2 seconds. Running software esp. if it has large data transfers is so much quicker. Editing maps and missions in Steelbeasts is, well, I can load, make changes and save then run the scenario before my desktop has even opened the editor.
  6. My big passion is films, and last year I built a home cinema in my garage, I have been working on it since the early 80s but never had the place to actually build it. I would hate to add up the cost but some where in the £35k to £40k would be about right. Now I can hook up my PC or laptop in there and use it on the big screen and it gives a very immersive feeling, I did fit a PS3 in and play GT5 /TDU2/Grid/F1 2010 and playing it on the small screen is not the same any more. I sometimes play Steelbeasts on it but the screen is just to big to hunt around looking for targets. Screen is 3.5m wide
  7. Well they did have Chaff in WW2 only then it was called Window. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaff_(countermeasure)
  8. Wasn't that at Duxford? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_A4xdGFXoE Flying Legends Air Display July 2011
  9. I look towards this as a stepping stone to more desirable aircraft from yesteryear. Tho looking at the aircraft list in their collection only the Spit XXIV and the Beaufighter do anything for me, the Beaufighter was the first Airfix model kit I built with my father when I was around 8 years old. Now let us have some other multi engined aircraft from this period... Lanc, B29, Wellington, Short Sunderland, Me262 or my personal favourite the Westland Whirlwind :)
  10. The Shilka's turret is only 9.5mm thick and the hull is 15mm thick. The SLAP .50 is good up to 35mm RHAe. There are many types of 50 cal amunition from ball to HEIAP (High Explosive Incendiary Armour Piercing like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raufoss_Mk_211) so it depends on what mix of ammo the ED allow us to have for the 6 .50s While the P51D is not my favorite aircraft I guess I will still get it and wait for something I like better to come along. A Westland Whirlwind please :) single seat twin engine fighter/ground atack with 4 20mm cannons in the nose http://www.whirlwindfighterproject.org/
  11. They do like to paint their aircraft tails... And Helmets
  12. For the film they used cockpit sections of the English Electric Lightning for the fighters. :)
  13. 720p is not 1080i, 720p is a resolution of 1280 x 720 progressivly scanned lines ie the picture is displayed in one go. 1080i is 1920 x1080 but is displayed as two "interlaced" fields of 1920x540 lines to make up one frame at 1920x1080. 1080p is a screen resolution of 1920 x1080 displayed as one progessivly scanned frame. A 720p monitor/TV has a native resolution of 1280 x 720 A 1080i monitor/TV has a native resolution of 1920 x 540 A 1080p monitor /TV has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 I use either a 1080p 24" monitor or a 50" 1080p plasma screen with my PC, My PS3 is connected to a 1080p projector showing a picture of 3.05m (120") diagonal
  14. Living close to an airbase with F16s and also between 2 firing ranges I get to hear the Vulcan cannon getting fired fairly often but yesterday there was a diffrent sound, much deeper and heavier than the Vulcan and the aircraft sounded diffrent than the F16 but they were out of view from my location so never seen what was doing the firing, if it was the GAU8 then it sounds really meaty and powerful and with a lot more low frequency than the youtube clips, the rate of fire was about the same. This past week or so there have been a load of "new sounds", 155 howitzers have been using the range and they make the 120mm of the leopards here sound like pop guns :)
  15. Also get flickering triangles on flat roofed buildings, only tried on the Instant Action so far. 1- Operating System - Windows 7 64 Ultimate 2- CPU - Core i7 965 3- RAM - 6Gb 4- Graphics Card - Nvidia GTS250 GK 1Gb Ram - Driver 258.96 5- Multi-monitor use - No, 1920 x 1080. 6- A10C 64bit version.
  16. Feed back given to NP about lack of 64bit drivers. Torrent getting slower and slower went from 2000kB/S to 85kB/s now saying over 4 hours for the download:doh:

The wait is about 3 to 4 weeks :music_whistling:
  18. Found this on Youtube Empire Test Pilot School, Boscombe Down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-sDdVkGVDs
  19. The BBC had a series a few years ago called Test Pilot about the training of new test pilots at Boscombe Down. Great series, loved the moment when they introduced the Harrier pilot to an alternative form of vertical take off with the Lightning :pilotfly: They covered Fixed Wing jet and prop aircraft and also rotary winged flight too.
  20. My first sight of an A10 was at Wick in the North of Scotland, a flight of two were flying out along the bay above the cliffs and like you said it was a strange noise for a jet. They kind of slid down the cliff face and dropped to wave hight and flew around the north headland at about 50ft and then out of sight.
  21. Smooth operation and a speedy recovery Matt.
  22. Thanks, a colour manual would be much more preferable  Now if it was like the original limited edition LOMAC one even better :music_whistling:
