  1. Well they did have Chaff in WW2 only then it was called Window. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaff_(countermeasure)
  2. Wasn't that at Duxford? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_A4xdGFXoE Flying Legends Air Display July 2011
  3. I look towards this as a stepping stone to more desirable aircraft from yesteryear. Tho looking at the aircraft list in their collection only the Spit XXIV and the Beaufighter do anything for me, the Beaufighter was the first Airfix model kit I built with my father when I was around 8 years old. Now let us have some other multi engined aircraft from this period... Lanc, B29, Wellington, Short Sunderland, Me262 or my personal favourite the Westland Whirlwind :)
  4. The Shilka's turret is only 9.5mm thick and the hull is 15mm thick. The SLAP .50 is good up to 35mm RHAe. There are many types of 50 cal amunition from ball to HEIAP (High Explosive Incendiary Armour Piercing like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raufoss_Mk_211) so it depends on what mix of ammo the ED allow us to have for the 6 .50s While the P51D is not my favorite aircraft I guess I will still get it and wait for something I like better to come along. A Westland Whirlwind please :) single seat twin engine fighter/ground atack with 4 20mm cannons in the nose http://www.whirlwindfighterproject.org/
  5. They do like to paint their aircraft tails... And Helmets
  6. For the film they used cockpit sections of the English Electric Lightning for the fighters. :)
  7. 720p is not 1080i, 720p is a resolution of 1280 x 720 progressivly scanned lines ie the picture is displayed in one go. 1080i is 1920 x1080 but is displayed as two "interlaced" fields of 1920x540 lines to make up one frame at 1920x1080. 1080p is a screen resolution of 1920 x1080 displayed as one progessivly scanned frame. A 720p monitor/TV has a native resolution of 1280 x 720 A 1080i monitor/TV has a native resolution of 1920 x 540 A 1080p monitor /TV has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 I use either a 1080p 24" monitor or a 50" 1080p plasma screen with my PC, My PS3 is connected to a 1080p projector showing a picture of 3.05m (120") diagonal
  8. Living close to an airbase with F16s and also between 2 firing ranges I get to hear the Vulcan cannon getting fired fairly often but yesterday there was a diffrent sound, much deeper and heavier than the Vulcan and the aircraft sounded diffrent than the F16 but they were out of view from my location so never seen what was doing the firing, if it was the GAU8 then it sounds really meaty and powerful and with a lot more low frequency than the youtube clips, the rate of fire was about the same. This past week or so there have been a load of "new sounds", 155 howitzers have been using the range and they make the 120mm of the leopards here sound like pop guns :)
  9. 14. Found this on Youtube Empire Test Pilot School, Boscombe Down http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-sDdVkGVDs
  15. The BBC had a series a few years ago called Test Pilot about the training of new test pilots at Boscombe Down. Great series, loved the moment when they introduced the Harrier pilot to an alternative form of vertical take off with the Lightning :pilotfly: They covered Fixed Wing jet and prop aircraft and also rotary winged flight too.
  16. My first sight of an A10 was at Wick in the North of Scotland, a flight of two were flying out along the bay above the cliffs and like you said it was a strange noise for a jet. They kind of slid down the cliff face and dropped to wave hight and flew around the north headland at about 50ft and then out of sight.
  17. Smooth operation and a speedy recovery Matt.
  18. Thanks, a colour manual would be much more preferable  Now if it was like the original limited edition LOMAC one even better :music_whistling:
