Team Strike II. Special thanks to Fractal_01 for flying with me! It has been suggested to me that I might have gone too far with the "realism" applied to what is otherwise a fun flying sim. -

How an earth did I survive this?!! I have never seen a missile go off right next to me and get away with it unharmed. Lucky escape? TEAMSTRIKE -PART 2 up guys. -
JDAMS and TOO. Not releasing first time and "inzone" errors.
cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yup. Thats exactly it. That's what I am doing since your recommendation on TDC further up. Nice. Definitely a big improvement. -
yeah.. that might be a bit difficult. Leave it with me. I'll see if I can get it next week. But to be honest, its pretty easy for you to replicate. Get yourself in a mission whereby you have targets on your radar with an awacs providing picture. Set your radar beams to say... 40 or 60 degrees. Have the radar sweep over some targets - and with datalink targets off/outside of beam and then turn the INS knob around. You will see your HUD, SA and HSI go crazy - and the datalink targets. What you should see (I think) is the radar targets within the 40 or 60 degrees sweep remain unaffected. Let me know what you find. I'll try and get hold of the file. If I cant, I'll set up a single player mission or something and have a go myself. pretty straight forward. Doubt this will be an issue for most if not all to be honest. But I guess ED would want to fix this all the same.

Once again Muchocracker - thank you. Had another go. My first attempt didnt go well and I had to resort to my old ways to get it to work. But on that one I might have accidentally TMS right one too many times to get the screen SOI. My last 2 went wild and went way WAY off target, but I might have been out of the ideal angle. One of the AGM-154s went off from target - a good 2 or so miles and decided to spin around like crazy! About 50 revolutions!!! I have the tacedit if you want a good laugh. I can upload it. However the second set of AGMs I could ripple off. I couldnt fire the first one. I had to "reset" again, but then once set, I could. So much better thank you. I think it still needs some work. It's not quite right -but yes, absolutely, as you say, TDC not TMS is the way to go. -
Hi guys. Interesting one for you. Not a desperate one this, but a bug I stumbled upon by accident. Flying the Hornet yesterday. Steam version. Latest openbeta. All hardware updated (not relevent, but there you go). I was about to attack 2 F-16s using my AIM-120Cs using my radar. Suddenly, my INS knob went wild -turning around CW and CCW. Turns out I have a faulty digital switch which I had assigned to it. Took me a while to figure it out and solve it. Anyway, I noticed something odd when it happened. When you are properly aligned, you see targets on your radar that your datalink sees. Another words - even if you radar is off (silent) or if your beams/scanning azimuth is looking elsewhere, you see the data on your radar. Now. When my INS decided to turn itself off and to GND and all over the place, naturally my HUD, and SA/HSI screens went all crazy - as expected. However - so did my radar returns. That bit is crucial. NOT the shared data of targets on the radar - the info my radar didn't see -but the actual radar returns the radar is actually receiving signals from. Now these, I would have thought, would NOT be all over the place and would be fixed as true to what the radar sees. In other words, the code doesnt seem to separate the shared data targets on the radar from true radar returns. As you can imagine, at the most crucial moment, I lost my target and couldnt fire at it. I would think that only the shared data/targets from the datalink would be messed up - NOT the actual radar returns. A good find I think. I dont believe this to be realistic. But perhaps it is?

Hopefully I will have some time end of the week to try all this out. Trying to get part 2 video done. But I really appreciate the replies. Thank you all. "...What you're doing really shouldnt even be working as the designation doesnt even actually go away in the first place as seen by the designation diamond still appearing on the HUD." See. Either accidentally or on purpose, I always seem to find the little bugs most people miss. Tinkering does that and never reading the manual like I should! -

cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Thank you for the reply. What you have mentioned is my understanding as well. My term "reset" isnt meant as a technical term - more a behavioural expression to it "fixing itself" because it does "work" - albeit rather crudely. I am using TMS right to select my target. I will have another go to try and replicate/stick to a fixed pattern so I can measure. I have no doubt its me doing something wrong, after all, it usually is! - but I do tend to have a habit of finding bugs it seems! -

cptmrcalm replied to cptmrcalm's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I had another go last night and all AGM-154s came off the rail after the first 2 had to be "reset". By "reset" I mean, coming into air to air and then back to air to ground again. Sometimes, the first of the weapons wont release despite being "in-zone". I should add that the laser guided bombs work flawlessly with this TOO method. -
Hi guys. I can fly - but cant operate the systems as well as I would like. I am still learning. I read up on the TOO mode and have been using it with .... different results. Many ways to drop JDAMS I know, but I seem to have problems with TOO mode. Same with the AGM-154s. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong in this video. (skip to 11:00 minutes in - there's more examples thereafter. I think one AGM-154 I was actually off target to release it (22:55) but the first 4 of 8 agm154s I have to reset by coming into air to air then back to air to ground and I can then fire... the last 4 I can actually ripple shot as preferred.) Others seem to have problems too. Any ideas?

Some top blokes on the buddyspike server. Flew with LUKEM2120 in this one. Good flight and plenty of action! Thanks again. -
Well. I am happy to report that it does indeed work! I can provide the video - but I wont have the other persons voice confirming it. Blade was my guinea pig and confirmed to me that it does indeed work. Had the target out in front and kept the beams off him quite a way off and he reported nothing. Slaved the beams over him - he registered me and then I took them off. Took a while for his system to register that I had "let him go" before his RWR went silent. Then tried keeping the beams just off him (ie., edge of beam close to his "brick") and he again reported nothing. This was around 15 miles off me - the point at which I would be considering whether or not to fire. Can do more tests of course. Particularly at different angles to see - but I am happy enough. Its always fun to do these things. For many late to the conversation, this may well be "old news" or something already known, but there you go. Hope it helps "yaw'l"...

Well said Tenkom. Exactly. PVP is how I started. Threw myself right into the deep end. As you may imagine, I got "owned" a lot! Its a wonder I continued with constantly getting killed rapidly with every flight. I never even did single player missions. But instead of giving up - I wanted to work out how I was getting killed so easily. It always astonished me how some of these pilots where able to be such good "killers". Watching them, talking to them and learning helped me adapt and use techniques of my own. This technique will catch out new pilots, but for hardcore pilots the technique works best when you have good picture and the enemy doesnt. So yes, absolutely is worth it. Muchocracker's comment, with respect, surprised me. But then again, some people come to DCS with a different mindset and a different way of flying - perhaps against AI all of the time. (not that there is anything wrong with that. You fly to enjoy your way) PVP in a cooperative environment such as the buddyspike servers is where you'll find you really learn how to fly and fight. If you watch my videos, you'll see that in nearly all of them I adopt this technique and have lots of successes with it. I have been away of late but my next few videos should be with the buddyspike servers again.
-
Indeed yes. That may work - if you have a physical switch assigned to the silent mode too, that would help. Or a voice command. Whichever way you look at it though - your adding in an extra step. I may have to adapt that solution anyway if the way I have been doing things isnt actually working right. Which may well be the case. We are talking split seconds I know, but I have been in plenty of situations whereby a second could have saved me. More times that I would like to admit. Anyway - a fun experiment at the very worse.
-
Oh god no. For starters, you dont even take your eyes off them. Its literally part of the process of locking them up. Much better than looking down and away and then back up to find they've fired or turned away. But then again, you're talking to a moron who has done this before - forgotten to turn on the radar!! most of you pro's probably wont have that problem! lol. But yes, certainly a slicker operation and one less process to worry about. Should be able to fly again soon. Had some computer problems and general life stuff getting in the way. Ive noticed the buddyspike server is back up again after being offline for a much longer than usual. Hopefully be able to see.
-
Absolutely. The technique is quite straight forward. Wait until you feel you can wait no more and move the radar beams over them- designate and fire and get out of the way. The later you leave it, the less time they have. Not always right to do so. But there are times when you feel confident they dont see you (or when you think they cant ) and therefore, you leave them less time to react. Yes, silent or even off will work - but if this does end up doing what I think it does - its one less operation to perform for when you go for the kill.

Part 2 to "The Final Test". Enjoy. -
Here's a good question. If I reduce my radar sweep to 20 degrees, will the target pick me up on their radar warning receiver if they are outside of that sweep but still within the radar max coverage range? Its a technique I have been using that I've been told may not work. I know that the radar is not a simple digital "off/on" system by its very nature. The beams will be a restriction to the radar movement and it will give off some omni radiation for sure. But the question still remains. Have I just been lucky all this time? The enemy doesnt seem to react to me until I move the beams over them. I use this technique in all of my videos but now I wonder...

Hi all. I've seen the topic raised on how to revert back to a previous version of DCS with the standalone installer. However, I am not sure that method will work for a Steam install. Does anyone know how I can revert back to a previous version? I was working on my latest video and just needed to get a few extra external shots and the trackfile no longer works because DCS has been updated. Shame you cant simply click on a version from a drop down like you can with the beta section. I have a feeling I have lost the track file forever now.

Credited the individuals whom appeared within the film. Took a while to put this together. Enjoy! (That's awesome JetCat btw. did read your last) -
Fascinating. Yes, I dont recall seeing any either. I remember listening to an F14 pilot on YT who claimed he pulled 12g's for a few seconds once - but no hud tape on that. Fun fact -I have actually pulled 12.2Gs "over G-ing" in the hornet in DCS. I learnt recently too that its not a good idea to over G when you have stores under the wing. Thought I was hit by a missile. The effect was a little unrealistic I think. lol.
