  1. No real need to overclock. Install Vista or W7, x64, and add 2GB or more of RAM. I compared the performance with X2 6000+, XP and only 2GB with all the "steps" toward Vista x64 and 4GB. Upgrading to Vista x64, gain in FPS. With 4GB and no swap file, no little "gasps". Totally smooth now!
  2. It's simple. If your HAT are recognized as real "8-way", you go to JoyToKey, access "Preferences" tab and mark "Handle diagonal inputs as special cases" and "Use POV switches". Now you and assign POV1 comands to "UP, RIGHT, DOWN, LEFT" as the keys you bind to then in CONTROLS options in BS. After that you will assign POV2 commands to the "diagonals": "POV2 UP" with the inputs relative to "UP+RIGHT POV" (a combination of the two keys binded to POV1 UP and POV1 RIGHT). And you go in clockwise direction: "POV2 RIGHT" = "RIGHT+DOWN POV", etc. I do this way and is perfect. Only remember to assign key command for slewing the Skhval in BS, and is done!
  3. Maybe it's not "significant enough", if we think using JoyToKey solve the problem. But is something really easy to implement - and add a lot of confort for 8-way HAT owners (we are a relevant part of the customers). I think it will be in the first patch.
  4. I have the same problem, an 8-positions HAT. And the solution is simples: 8-positions HAT mapping support in the next patch. Simple, easy. IL2 Sturmovik have this support. Not time consuming, easy to implement. All the "workaround" about this is just a temporary solution... It's a little "missing" in DCS:BS, easy fix in a patch. Thanks!
  5. :megalol: Yesterday my AI wingman commited suicide in "CODA" with all my "engage datalink target" and setting a safe ingress point distance... But I have a lot of fun rushing with rockets against the AAA in the terrorist base trying to save the daredevil fool and loosing part of the nose of my Ka-50! Even the "suicidal wingman AI" give good moments in this superb simmulation! :pilotfly:
  6. X2 6000+, only 2GB RAM, and an older 3850 with only 256MB... 1280X1024, 2XAA, 512 for ABRIS, Skhival, etc, civ traffic, scenes high, beautifull watter, and the only setting with real impact: textures medium, caused by my 256MB video card (otherwise I have a little shuttering). And a medium visible range. I have in "Battle" a maximum drop of 18-20 FPS. The average is 40. I set the maximum of 50. I reduce "effects" (put in 2), because the "fog/dust" needs some optimization. The simmulation runs well in my 6000+ system. Something strange in hyperfighter system. Mine is worse and runs better.
  7. When I do this, my AI wingman often shows his suicidal tendencies and after shoot one vikhir do the "death dive"... :music_whistling: It's the "randon AI behavior" in DCS:BS... Wingman AI decisions! :smilewink:
  8. Now excuse my "off-topic", but my girlfriend is an english teacher and sometimes looks over my shoulder when I'm writing here... I feel a need to spend more time in "Tell Me More" and less in BS... :pilotfly:
  9. As said, I believe multiplayer is the path... Work in netcode and more control over ground units scripted behavior in mission editor, or "on the fly" human control over it. I personally don't need a lot of "AI", I'll like to "unload" the CPU and use more "Human Intelligence"! I dream with strong netcode for a lot of human controlled aircraft and one "commander" controling the behavior of ground units in MP games... I glad to know this is one of the goals for ED! AI only for detection, accuracy, quick responses, etc. Offline "gamming" always tend to be a "poor intelligence and replayability" experience, FPS included... Maybe one future "M1A1" DCS module? :music_whistling: As usual, excuse my bad english... I'm enjoying BS even with the actual limitations in ground AI, trying to use a lot of triggers in ME!
  10. Ops... pig, hog, warthog, razorback... all these animals... my english really sucks! :helpsmilie: What I'm trying to say using my terrible english is: even in a modest 6000+ like mine, the engine can give me solid +25/30fps almost all the time. IL2 runs as smoth as notepad here
  11. And I'm using FreeTrack with a low-end webcam... I really don't understand all the "CPU PIG" thing... Obviously some optimization and update in engine will be good, but I think it's ok by now. One friend of mine bought BS yesterday... P4 3.0Ghz and ATI 9600... Will see... :)
  12. I use HMS (with FreeTrack) in the initial approach, always. I'll try the "gun pan" method! I usually do that with Shkval HAT control...
  13. A note: TrackIR = IR camera with IR source + head clip with reflective material or IR leds... The same method used by Free Track (if you use IR leds). You only have to buy a IR camera (like Wiimote) or use a modded decent cheap webcam. The only real "advantage" of TrackIR is the "plug-and-play". With Wiimote, you have all the smoth and low cpu usage of TrackIR with Free Track. I use a Microsoft LX-1000 without IR filter (easy to remove and to "undo") and low cpu usage with perfect head tracking in BS. And in daylight...
  14. Free Track is a way better than Cachya, if you use the 3 IR led setup and a modded webcam (without IR filter) or even a Wiimote or similar IR camera. Low CPU usage, accurate tracking. And it's free... It's exactly the TrackIR "fundaments" and almost for free...
  15. Cheap webcam + cheap 3 IR leds, one resistor and 9v battery + Free Track + one day to assemble the hardware and configurate the software = head tracking similar to expensive TrackIR4 for use in DCS:Black Shark. And I have a lot of fun in the process of construction and configuration! The final result have similar performance of TrackIR, for a rellative "medium pace" simulator.
  16. All fine here, no relevant issues: AMD X2 6000+ 2GB DDR2 800 3850 256MB Vista Ultimate x64 - Affinity both cores. 1280X1024 AA2x tex medium, scenes high, all planar, water normal... Minimum 20-25 FPS. Average 35-40 FPS.
  17. I run DCS: Black Shark in an AMD X2 6000+ (brisbane...), only 2GB DDR2 800 and a modest 3850 with just 256MB. Runs fine... No suttering, only the normal "middle-range" FPS caused by my 3850. 1280x1024, medium textures (only 256MB in my VGA) medium distance, all planar. Windows Vista Ultimate x64, affinity set to both cores. In my old 4000+ and WinXP, DCS:Black Shark was unplayable.... One AMD X2 6000+ platform with just 2GB and a modest VGA can handle DCS: Black Shark with acceptable performance.
