I think a lot of people here are looking at this the wrong way. ED is in the business of making simulations, not just for the community here, but for organizations around the world. The fact that we get the chance to purchase these simulations (if we wish) is just an added bonus. Winz was probably right back in post 196. This should be an excellent way to be sure that the entire ED team is being used effectively. The P-51 and the continuing Legends series would broaden the market for the simming community and are lighter in the avionics area than all the radar/missile logic/ECM/ECCM stuff they're trying to work out (with acceptable frame rates :P ) in the backround. Why not put the model and flight model guys to work on something else? ED is owned by The Fighter Collection, and look at the list of aircraft they have: Bearcat, Corsair, P-40, Gladiator, Harvard, Hawk, Hellcat, Mustang, Spitfire, Wildcat, Thunderbolt I's, etc etc. Any of these could easily be another addition. This also expands their portfolio to include piston powered, propeller driven aircraft. Why couldn't Piper/Cessna/Extra see this, and want to include some official training software with their new aircraft? ED has the history and credentials to pull that off. But most people who are saying "This doesn't fit!" arn't reading this (or the first post) anyways. Their loss I guess.

But it really depends how you play it. You can easily sink a bunch hours into a game, all while staying in the smaller ships so that the game stays more "personal". Until your fight rank gets really high, there's not much that forces you to get into the big, hard to manage fleets.

Pilot is 71 year old Dr. Bill Phipps. Survived, with serious injuries as you could imagine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBI-ToPLKqM&feature=related Also thought I would throw this up here. Take a look through the rest of his channel, there's some cool flights in there.

Take On Helicopter - New game by Bohemia Interactive
T.Goat replied to Eight Ball's topic in Chit-Chat
I wouldn't expect an Advanced Flight Model like BS has, but maybe a clickable pit and LOMAC physics? It's probably more of a competitor for FSX, than a hardcore study simulation like DCS. -
I'm not sure this is a good move. Tanks are pretty easy to jump in and go, while still being tactical, and dont have an over saturated market. WWII aircraft are pretty well covered, from IL-2 to Aces High and a bunch of other ones. Plus they have to work out physics, and how to keep it entertaining yet realistic to the masses.

The HUD tape is especially scary. If those people hadn't drove out of the way, he would have hit them.

Noooo... I wanted to see the Knights. :( I guess there will always be a single Flanker demonstration.

Take On Helicopter - New game by Bohemia Interactive

Finding this thread totally made my day. I used to love simcopter, and I've been waiting for a "mission->payment->upgrade" style flight sim to come out. This will be awesome. -
Yet another low pass video. :music_whistling: Edit, can't get it to embed.

Nope. From the FAQ: Q: What terrain is covered? A: DCS: A-10C introduces a new map covering the area around Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, USA. The existing Caucasus map from DCS: Black Shark and Flaming Cliffs 2 have also been expanded eastward to include the entirety of Georgia as well as terrain surrounding it, introducing several new airports and air bases in both Georgia and Russia. The entire world isn't modeled, just 2 theaters.

"Beam to the notch" sounds like slang for something.

A couple of questions about the GAU-8
T.Goat replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I just want to double check that I'm not supposed to see tracers from the GAU-8? Also, try firing right at the coastline heading out towards the water. Then watch all the ricochets splashing down into the water. If you come out of a dive before doing this, you can actually get ahead of the splashes. Anyone shot themselves down yet? :P -
GG seems to wink a lot concerning A-A and F-15's. Kinda creepy, maybe he knows something?
-
IIRC, the DCS A-10C modeled is a certain block number, which has already been updated again by the air force. That said, I really doubt there's much left classified about the A-10 airframe. There's probably some kind of IR missile strobelight jammer that we don't have, maybe some other little gizmos.

I love how GGTharos keeps swooping in to deliver swift kicks of reality to the dreams of others :P -

Vietnam isn't DCS's theater. But happily the MiG-21 is still in use with many countries around the world. So is the F-5. :music_whistling: -
Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
T.Goat replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yep. Anyone asking for a Eurofighter, F-22/35, Su-35/37 can keep dreaming. I really doubt the next DCS will even be a teen series fighter, unless ED gets a contract to make one. -
While I'll admit that Steam isn't perfect, it's a great tool for game distribution. And while there are some horror stories, keep in mind that at peak times every day, Steam has over 2 million users online. The couple stories you hear are a very small percentage of users.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
T.Goat replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I don't think we'll see a two seater at least until the DCS after the next one. Just imagine the current AI, but in your aircraft. Or being in multiplayer, having someone in the pilot seat of your jet as how to start the engines. Just no. -
Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
T.Goat replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
The DCS engine will probably require a new ray-based radar system, and probably a multithreading update, if not already in A-10C. I imagine these will take some time, so if combined with a complex fighter, then release day is far away. I'd like to see a simpler fighter, maybe an F-5/20, MiG-21/23/27, or an early MiG-29. Plenty of information, several air forces around the world still operate these aircraft (potential contracts), etc. -
Project 10 - DCS: A-10C Warthog Promo!

New coastal fog at 2:23? Or just a cloud reflection? -
Looks great in the air, but awkward on the ground. Needs the main landing gear moved back and shortened, bigger vertical stabilizers, and maybe bigger engines. And then I would have to change my shorts

25 Russian AI controlled aircraft and 6 helicopters (MiG-23, MiG-25 (P, RBW), MiG-27, MiG-29 (A,S), MiG-31, Su-17,Su-25, Su-27, Su-30, Su-33, Su-34, Su-39, Su-24, Su-24MR, Tu-22M3, Tu-95, Tu-142, Tu-160, A-50, An-26, An-30, IL-76, IL-78, Mi-8MT, Mi-24 "Hind", Mi-26 "Halo", Ka-27 "Helix", Ka-50, Ka-52) There's a wide variety of Russians to shoot you down/be shot down

So if Nellis is being included for the sake of immersion, will be have dummy bombs and sidewinders as well, with referee's for kill counting in Red Flag? Will it be possible to fly out with your instructor in a separate A-10C, then split off and fly simulated air-to-air against him/her, then form up and fly home?

Durandals? Where? Can the A-10 even carry them, outside of A-10 Cuba?
