  1. I've been trying the Courier mission again lately, and everytime when I'm waiting at the UAZ to receive the package my Rotor RPM and my engine 1 turbine RPM drops rapidly, making the bird crash to the ground. Then I get the message: check main transmission. I have Dust protectors on and I am hovering 3 or more p above the ground (manually, not using Hover mode). I don't know what's happening, I'm trying again and again but it always happens just when I receive the confirmation that the driver is still OK. Anyone knows what's going on?
  2. Never heard of this, how do you do that exactly?
  3. I currently have developed a small profile to use in Black Shark, in fact I'm going to test it out right now (when the patch is finished downloading). I'll post my results tonight. If the experience I had with ArmA 2 is any indication, I think this will be a huge success :)
  4. Awesome, can't wait. Sounds very promising.
  5. PC games have been in High Definition for at least a decade. HD is simply a fancy word for a resolution of 1920x1080 (Full HD). If you have a monitor that supports that resolution (most 24" 16:9 monitors) you are actually playing HD. However, HD is relatively new for consoles and TV's (but not for the PC), because normal TV's have always been in SD (Standard Definition), which is (for the PAL region) a resolution of 720×576 split into two interlaced fields of 288 lines.
  6. Then it's most probably the new monitor ;) Enjoy!
  7. You might want to look at VAC: http://www.dwvac.com/ (30 days free, $18 for a license ) They also have a profile for Black Shark (and example videos!). Tonight I've tested it with ArmA 2, also with a profile from someone else, but that can be tricky so I customized it a lot. Tomorrow I want to check VAC out for Black Shark, I had very very good experience with ArmA 2 tonight. There is also Pilfius but doesn't work with every game combined with Win 7: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/PiLfIuS-Download-77969.html (it's free so it's worth a try to see if it runs if you have win 7)
  8. ^That the cause when I have the same problem. The problem with cheaper sticks is that sometimes the stick doesn't recognizes that you've centered it, so you will lose complete control. Sometimes it takes 10 seconds for the stick to finally "get it", which it too late.
  9. I thought about this yesterday night (while trying to sleep ), I think it might be very useful (especially for people without a full HOTAS setup) to use voice commands for the more regular task and combat preparations while in flight? I've been playing with a voice to text program for ArmA 2 to command my AI soldiers, why wouldn't it be useful for BS? I haven't tried it yet, and am currently at work, but are there people here using voice recognition software in Black Shark? I imagine commands like "MASTER ARM", "FOLLOW TARGET", "UNCAGE", "INNER WEAPONS", "OUTER WEAPONS", "LASER", "ROUTE MODE", "GEAR" etc. are perfect commands to use in voice activation :) Only downside is that you will get some delay because the software needs to recognize your command, but this is less than a second. As long as you don't use it for ejection or fire command, I don't see why this would be a problem at all.
  10. See also some suggestions etc. I got in this topic about more or less the same thing: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=52312
  11. Awesome, congratulations! As far as your questions are concerned, I am currently playing Black Shark with a Logitech 3D Pro, almost identical to the one you posted in post #1. You can play Black Shark with it, it will not ruin the experience. It's just not optimal, I personally never used a better stick, but you can feel that your playing with relatively cheap hardware. But first get a feel for the game and then see how much you want to invest. I've been on the verge of shelling out hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a new HOTAS setup (haven't done it yet though), because I think it's worth it, Black Shark is simply an amazing AMAZING simulator. But you must see for yourself. I'll also add that I first played without head tracking, which was kinda OK, until I build a FreeTrack setup. Man! What a difference! I never want to play without FreeTrack (or TrackIR) again! With lots of :book: and lots of  you will hopefully experience the pleasure of :joystick: :megalol: and everything else Black Shark has to offer. Eventually you will want to buy better stuff, but for now: it's a good thing you got the game in the first place :D
  12. So you'll get six cores you won't be able to use! :P J/K In all seriousness, the release of the 6 cores might influence the current prices of the quad cores too?
  13. I'm also looking into getting a FFB stick. But there's one thing I don't understand, which probably is very simple. FFB sticks don't automatically recenter right? They stay in the position in which you leave them. From what I understand that's a good thing, because if you trim you can still visually see how your stick is pointed. But the thing I don't understand is, when I would fly to the left (stick to the left) and release the trim button, I need to recenter the stick. So the stick is in the center again, which you don't want right?! And if it stays to the left, after trimming, it doubles to effect which you also don't want. Or am I missing the point here? It's so simple, but somehow so hard :(
  14. What's the price difference between the 955 and 965?
  15. Cache means ALOT But it can be hard to compare because Intel's i series use a different way (quick path interconnect) than in example Phenom II (BUS lanes). So it depends on the architecture how you can compare different sizes of cache. 2mb cache in one architecture can mean something different for another one (big or small). It also depends which levels of cache, like L1 and L2 are usually smaller than L3 cache. L1 cache is on the chip and doesn't need to use the BUS lane (direct access for the CPU), L2 is a slower but bigger in size and is separate for every core while L3 cache is usually the biggest and shared between all cores. What it comes down to, basically, is that the CPU needs those cache to store information, retrieve information etc. in and out of memory. So if you have a super duper quick CPU with very low or slow cache (like the older Phenom I's) you are severely bottle necked because the CPU constantly needs to wait for the slow/small cache memory which hampers your overall performance. But like I said in the beginning, different architectures make it hard to compare the absolute size of cache memory, it depends how it is used.
  16. Sounds like you're enjoying yourself! Welcome to the club! :joystick: As for performance issues, try lowering the water detail. Someone suggested that to me last year, because from what I understand water is rendered under the earth layer so even if there is no water it's always rendered everywhere (or something along those lines). It really helped boosting my performance. As for quad core support, yes, it would be nice. But for now it's single core support. I think dual/quad core support needs a complete rewrite/overhaul of the engine (or something along those lines). It's also important not to underestimate the calculations needed for playing a detailed sim like this. All those factors (the complete heli model, wind, turbulence, projectiles, bullet drop, gravity etc) need to be calculated by a single core, so you know where the bottleneck lies.
  17. Yeah, I can vouch for Phenom II also. I have the x4 955 Black Edition, works great.
  18. Somehow they always look so cheap
  19. No problems here. I have the X-25M 80GB with Windows 7 64-bit, installed fine without any custom drivers or anything. 40GB is pretty small. It's doable, but small. I have the 80GB, with Windows 7, ArmA 2 (with mods), DCS: Black Shark and my software. I think I have about 15GB free. Mods from arma really take lots of space. I didn't have a real performance increase with ArmA 2 and the SSD unfortunately (and that was the main reason I bought it :(). It loads much quicker, but once in-game I don't see any difference, some things run actually worse like more pop-up, texture popup (sometimes 10+ seconds before some tall buildings are textured!!). Never had those problems with normal HD, very weird. Now that I'm used to it I wouldn't go back though. Boot time is real fast, launching Photoshop CS3 takes <3 seconds. It's also very nice to simply start using your PC IMMEDIATELY after it's booted. <1 second login screen, then to desktop, launch Firefox and browse. It all happens in a few seconds. My PC doesn't seem to get any slower either, even when installing more and more software. It's still very quick.
  20. works perfect with FC2 (win 7 64 professional)
  21. I was talking about a different one, but it doesn't really matter. In the mission I meant (which I think is way harder than any of the deployment campaign missions) you have to do a routine patrol flight in a valley and at some point you come against a 15+ vehicle enemey patrol. Yeah, that's really something to keep in mind. It simply doesn't work to shoot one or two extra times while you are actually in too much danger. Sometimes it's just very tempting, but eventually you'll wind up dead or at least in way too much danger. Sometimes it's hard to put that rule in practice...
  22. x2 Your eyes won't see the difference.
  23. Very interesting to read how others approach certain situations. I think my mind has been wandering away from how to approach situations with the Black Shark, so I'll need to focus on either attacking while dictating the momentum myself or retreating to try a different approach. Sometimes I'm still tempted to do something in between, which indeed doesn't work. I already have a lot of patience while in the Black Shark, but I might need some more! I can really work with the replies so far :)
  24. I've been playing Black Shark for a while now, but till now it basically comes down to moving to target area, get in a nice steady hover and blow them up from a safe distance. But as soon as things get "hot" and I don't have time to go into a nice hover first, I never manage to engage enemies. For in example the seperate patrol mission (i think that's what it's called), you need to fly through a valley and do a regular patrol flight. I tried that mission 5+ times now, flying slowly, from vantage point to vantage point, but as soon as the convoy turns around the bent and I'm still trying to aim at the moving targets I'm shot from the air. If though I know I can expect them! Is it even possible to multi-task with the Black Shark? Like doing evasive manouvres while locking and shooting targets? What should be the procedure in the patrol mission mentioned above? Should I, as soon as I see the enemy patrol coming up, break contact and retreat somewhere where I can lay an ambush? How is this done in real life? Should I even try to multitask (manouvering/engaging at the same time)?
  25. It's from Ghost Recon 1 :) (at least the first two)
