  1. @Rudel_chw Many thanks for building and sharing these excellent missions! I've flown three so far and found them to be well thought out, informative and enjoyable - much better than the stock training missions IMO. Couple of minor bugs I've encountered: - on the abbreviated cold start, general carnage ensues around you as the Chinooks and B-1 burst into flames on touchdown (actually kinda hilarious when juxtaposed with the calm delivery of the training voiceover ) - guessing a newly introduced DCS AI bug - when interacting with ATC, it seems the next voiceover is only triggered when using the FR22 PTT bind, but not the FR22 PTT/VOIP bind - took me a while to figure out there were two binds for operating thr same radio!
  2. Many thanks TOViper - that link worked and I've managed to join the HB discord and locate the viggen.training channel. Thanks also for the explanation regarding the time limit. The rationale makes sense - I'll give it a go and let you know if I have any feedback. All the best with this endeavour!
  3. This looks awesome - recently bought the Viggen and have been looking for something more in depth than the stock training missions. Just curious, why is there a 60 minute time limit for completing the training missions after you download them? Also, I'm having issues with the Discord link on the Viggen.Training homepage: - https://discord.com/channels/1071433028045377637/1166748421005262929 When I press it, it just takes me to random channels on servers I'm already a member of. Looks to be a link to a specific channel rather than an actual Discord invite?
  4. Thank you for the insight. It must be hard to justify this level of effort on ancillary QOL features as it's probably not a major selling point for a module. Another example of HB going the extra mile I guess! But I reckon having an accessible in-game manual will make the process of learning the module in detail a lot more enjoyable and hopefully translate to users spending more time in it. Fingers crossed this sets the future standard, and other developers see the benefit and add similar functionality to their modules.
  5. Looks like a good system, provided you have a large tablet and don't mind taking off your VR headset every time you need to reference it. Personally I find the main limitation with PDF format manuals is the lack of responsive formatting. For study outside the game, the fixed format of PDFs means readability on anything smaller than an A4 size tablet is not great. I don't own a large tablet myself, and during most of the free time I have available to study a manual the only device available is a phone. Reading an A4 formatted PDF requires more zooming, horizontal scrolling and screen rotating than ideal. IMO, even reading a PDF on a desktop is clunkier than a well formatted, responsive web page. Inability to easily access the manuals in-game is another current drawback. Granted, you can export the PDFs to images and drop them in the kneeboard folder (or use OpenKneeboard), but the process is somewhat clunky and the formatting and lack of interactivity are still suboptimal. It looks like Heatblur's approach should remedy both these issues for the F-4, but I'd be keen to see a similar solution ported to other modules (happy to have a crack at it myself if the right tools are available!).
  6. One of the QOL features shown in the F4 trailer that I'm most excited about is the interactive manual. IMO this will make the process of learning a module much easier and more enjoyable (especially for VR users). I'm curious if this feature is an extension of the existing in-game kneeboard functionality, or has required some kind of "core engine" update? Will it be possible for modders to implement similar interactive manuals for other modules, or would SDK access be required? I feel PDF is an outdated documentation format, except perhaps for the small minority that prefer to print physical copies. Props to HB for blazing a trail and finally implementing something more user friendly!
  7. +1. Surprised there haven't been more reports regarding the terrible quality of Low Res terrain textures on Normandy 2. Many VR users with <24GB VRAM (myself included) struggle to maintain playable FPS with terrain textures on high. Appreciate there will be some loss of visual quality with lower Res textures, but the other maps seems to have done a much better job at implenting them without the jarring, repeating pattern 90s sim retro look.
  8. The Oculus Performance HUD (enabled via the Oculus debug tool or Oculus Tray Tool) seems to be hidden behind the game in VR. The HUD is visible on the loading screen if you rotate your head so that it pops out from behind the loading screen, but once the game is fully loaded it is completely hidden. This makes debugging performance issues very frustrating in the Quest 2. Desktop screens pinned via the Oculus Link main menu also suffer from the same problem. Apparently the Oculus performance HUD and ability to pin windows was available pre 2.7, but has been broken since. Using DCS standalone with Oculus as the default VR runtime.
  9. Same issue as Majestic above - after selecting "Move On" following Lotus's explanation of the SA cue, she replies "Cool" and then there is no further communication.
  10. Thank you sir! Should have thought to check the docs folder
  11. Just completed Mission 3 of Iron Flag and loving it so far - amazed how many Hog intricacies I still hadn't covered despite completing the packaged training missions plus all three Maple Flag campaigns! Apologies if I've missed this, but is there a syllabus or full list of all missions in the campaign somewhere? My sim time is limited and unpredictable in timing, so would like to read up in advance for the upcoming missions if possible.
  12. @BIGNEWY- I noticed "Refined engine response." was included in the Hornet patch notes for 2.7.6.12852. Are you able to elaborate on what parameters were changed and whether this was in response to analyses provided earlier in this thread? I hadn't flown the Hornet for a couple of months, but subjectively it feels slightly more responsive to throttle inputs and am having an easier time catching the 3-wire (although could be to do with mostly flying warbirds recently!). Thanks
  13. Some googling revealed this possible remedy for the Thrustmaster TFRP stiction issue on the MSFS forums. I couldn't find any of the clear Japanese-made tape in that post available locally, so I ordered a roll of this basic self-adhesive PTFE tape from Amazon and applied it to the plastic runners where they sit on the metal rails. So far it has made a big difference - the stiction is greatly reduced and rudder control feels a lot smoother and more precise as a result. Not sure how long the tape will last, but £6 for a roll of tape sure beats £300+ for a pedal upgrade!
  14. Yeah, accurate gunnery really requires some fine leg motor control. Not sure whether higher end pedals would help much with this TBH - I understand that rudder control IRL is more intuitive largely due to the force feedback. Unfortunately the only FFB pedal option I'm aware of is these Brunners, and not sure they are even compatible with DCS!
  15. Thanks @grafspee@reece146 for your thoughts - as I suspected, it sounds like it's a case of practice, practice, and more practice! My rudder setup is a cheap and cheerful Thrustmaster TFRP - just about does the job with a curve of 15 on the rudder axis, but does suffer from "sticktion" which doesn't help with the fine rudder work required for warbirds. Might try some nyogel to smooth things out as the nicer models are a big step up in price.
  16. Curious what is the best-practice for trim settings when landing the Spit (and the P-51 for that matter): in case of the need for a go-around or for practicing touch-and-gos, should one actually set takeoff trim when on the approach for landing? I find the rudder trim for minimising control forces on the approach is much closer to neutral than that used for takeoff, resulting in some pretty wild yawing if reapplying power for a touch and go. Or do I just need to practice smoothly applying power and anticipating the required rudder input?
  17. Thanks all for your thoughts - reassured that others are running 4k smoothly, so think I'll go with the 32" 4k option. Interestingly, benchmarks in this thread indicate the 6800xt pulls ahead of the 3080 in VR on the G2 - not sure if that will translate to 2d 4k, but various MSFS benchmark vids I've seen also put the 6800xt a whisker ahead.
  18. Hi all, Got a shiny new rig on the way, and while I'm planning on giving VR a go, I still anticipate a fair amount of time flying in pancake mode, so would like to upgrade my monitor to take full advantage of the increased oomph. I'm considering either a 27" 1440p or a 32" 4k (coming from a 24" 1080p, so either should be a significant upgrade). Kinda leaning towards going all out with the 32" 4k, but was wondering if modern hardware is actually capable of running DCS at a consistently decent frame rate in 4k? I'm aware spotting gets more difficult at higher resolutions, but am willing to overlook this in favour of crispier visuals For info, new specs will be: CPU - AMD 5600X GPU - Radeon 6800XT RAM - 32GB DDR4 @3200mhz 1TB Samsung 980 Evo M.2

    Sim rig vs. Cat

Can hardly wait Thanks for the tips, guess I'll get working on my stern, cat scaring voice then
  20. Simo

    Sim rig vs. Cat

So, my better half seems hell-bent on getting some kind of furry creature (most likely of the feline persuasion) as apparently my company just isn't enough for her I'm generally indifferent to cats so don't really mind, but having never owned a pet before I'm wondering if steps may need taking to prevent precious HOTAS/headset/PC/cables being used as chew toys/claw sharpeners/litter etc.... Unfortunately putting it behind closed doors isn't really an option, as it currently occupies an alcove on the landing (the cat will probably find its way into all the rooms eventually anyway). Anyone have any experience/advice to offer?
  21. I've noticed this bug with the hornet too, so guess it's not exclusive to the harrier. Minor annoyance only as can still refuel.
  22. Thanks @BIGNEWY - just installed .59625 on my Shadow PC and it loads up fine for me. Thanks to the devs for squashing this so quickly given VM users must be a small minority of DCS players.
  23. @Flappie @BIGNEWY - just wondering whether the Shadow PC loading issue is addressed in the latest OB (2.5.6.59625)? Don't see any mention of it in the changelog, and would prefer to hold off on updating from 2.5.6.58125 until it's confirmed as fixed.
  24. This article recently popped up on my newsfeed - it includes some interesting (at least to my not-so-knowledgeable self!) nuggets on current real-life A-10C capabilities not yet modelled in DCS, and planned future upgrades. Regarding multi-target engagements, Suite 9 apparently "introduced the first phase of engaging multiple targets with precision-guided munitions. It allowed six weapons to be dropped with a single 'pickle button' press. The aircraft can send weapons to different targets with one button push on one pass, whereas before it took a lot of pilot workload. A-10 pilots can employ 500-pound-class GBU-38 or 54 or 2,000-pound class GBU-31 Joint Direct Attack Muntions (JDAM) and the aircraft will inform the pilot if they can all hit their intended targets on a single run ... Suite 10 will include “multiple target list improvements” that will enable the pilot to engage multiple targets with three different weapon types on one pass." Here's hoping these features make it into DCS someday! On the other hand, maybe they'd turn the A-10 into an unstoppable, Ace-Combat-style death machine and life would be too easy  The A-10 Warthog Is Preparing For Its Biggest Upgrade In Over A Decade
  25. The support page here states that VPNs are "strongly discouraged", but doesn't explicitly state that they are banned. Someone has asked the question on Reddit, and a Shadow staffer replied: "Hamachi is permitted. However using Shadow explicitly as a server is not allowed." So I guess it's OK as long as you're only using the client on Shadow side. Tbh I'm willing to run the risk regardless, as without VPNs and VirtualHere, Shadow's terrible USB forwarding renders DCS unplayable!
