Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Georgio replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Details, mere details.+ If these puppies are slated to go operational in 2010 and the US are/have ordered 2500+ of them then these are going to feature big-time in anyone's future. I must admit though that I don't understand the investment in manned aircraft when it's so obvious that un-manned is going to dominate in the next 5-10 years. Trust me, our children will find the concept of say the F-16 about as relevant as cavalry to a WW1 infantryman. -

I disagree. :music_whistling: A simple Wiki search gives more than enough data to base a simulation on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_F-35_Lightning_II -
Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Georgio replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Thinking ahead of how DCS are going to improve on perfection. It has to be the F-18 or F-35 with full carrier operations. This then gives the greatest scope of air operations anywhere on the globe. Tempting though the F-16 is, it's still yesterday's technology and has been emulated to death with the Falcon series. A fresh change of direction is badly needed and with the role versatility of both the F-18 & F-35 there should be something there for everyone. -
I built my first PC back in the early 90's when getting the components was a job in itself; I had to import a 17" Taxan monitor from the States as there were none in the UK at the time. It was funny as I was reliably informed by suppliers in the UK that 17" monitors didn't exist. Anyways, I digress, since then I've built many computers for family, friends and work colleagues; I always got a kick out of bringing a new 'life' into the World :D As I'm a designer I've used Macs for the past 15 years usually in parallel with my PC's for gaming, but since the advent of intel multi-cores,etc. and bootcamp I've been quite happy to ditch the PC and keep with the iMac for both work and play. A10 runs reasonably ok on my iMac though my god it gets hot; I've jerry-rigged surplus processor heat-sinks along the top edge to try and dissipate some of the heat. The newer i5/i7 cores will obviously win out but atm in the UK they're running at about £2k which is a big hole to burn. So my point is that 'if' someone has a decent iMac and limited budget, try installing windows on bootcamp and give A10 a try, you might be pleasantly surprised. (Saying that I'm tempted by an i7 Alienware...maybe Christmas will be kind to me)

That takes the whole 'about as welcome as a fart in a space suit' to a different level. I'm surprised the pilot didn't get a special medal for that hardship

My guessing is that some 12mm from the tanks hit the bomb as it come off your plane and caused premature detonation...if you switch to the tank view and listen real close you can hear them laughing their socks off :D

What I've noticed which is cool is that when engaging an armoured column, instead of blindly carrying on as you pick them off with Mavs, they actually get off the road and disperse making your job much harder. A few minutes later when they think you've gone the survivors get the hell out of dodge which is just about when another Mav is incoming :D

Help Adding commands in A10 for WH
Georgio replied to Nightcargo's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok so I've been playing with the standard WH profile since receiving the kit and overall I'm quite happy with the set up. However, now I would like to start customising the WH so I can pretty much dispense with the keyboard while flying. So, is there a default A10.fcf file out there anywhere that would be a good template for customising? I'm experimenting with the VAC voice control software atm and would ideally want to assign the mic 'push in' to activate VAC. So has anyone remapped all the default .lua commands to a TM .fcf file yet? :D -
Sounds like a great idea. Would be nice to map to throttle mic so that a press in activates coms, then a scroll down to submenu, press again, and so on with a final press sending the message. It's very clunky to send any messages atm which hits on the fun factor. Even better would be voice recognition so that you just had to say "wingman (pause) engage ground targets" I used to use game commander or something years ago which worked pretty well for the time. The only problem was I could say 'flaps down' or something and it would ignore me. My girlfriend who was downstairs could shout 'eject, eject' and it would instantly bail me...not good

For those (like myself) who have a WH but no working pedals; waiting on an adaptor for my RCS rudders atm. So finding slider on the throttle a bit clunky and not wanting to resort to using the keyboard I thought I'd try using the split throttle as a form of poor mans thrust vectoring to steer during take offs and landings and it actually works quite well. Obviously you have to only little amounts of differental but after using this for a few hours I prefer to keep the throttles split now all the time. The more time I spend with this kit and the warthog the better it gets :smilewink:

I've tried using a button modifier also without success. I remapped the trim hat to actually do the job as intended as I use a TIR for viewing. That is ok now, however I wanted to use BTN03 as a modifier so I could use that and the trim hat to zoom in/out. Unfortunately it appears to accept it in the controls, but does nothing ingame. I also am reluctant to use Target in it's current form as I installed it this morning and screwed up my settings so it's off now.

Yes I know this is the Warthog forum, but as most people who probably have BS are busily trashing armour in here it seemed logical. Anyways, quickly tried the WH in BS and how incredible is the control now :D I haven't got my RCS pedals sorted yet so I split the throttles with the right one for collective and the left one for rudder control. Seemed a bit weird but after 5 mins I was ok with it. I just can't get over how precise the flight control is with the WH - amazing bit of kit :smilewink:

Interesting. What on earth do female hog pilots pilots do? :D

Is anyone else running A10 on an iMac using bootcamp? I'm curious as I'm getting pretty 'good' performance from my 3.06MHz dual core/4GB DDR2/Nvidia 8800GS Mac but was wondering if anyone was using a newer iMac preferably with the i5/i7 core and ATI Radeon HD 5750 vid card and what kind of performance they're getting especially in Nevada? TIA :D

Hehe, got married in Vegas some years ago and had our wedding dinner in the revolving restaurant at the top of the Stratosphere - darn I just plain forgot she hates heights :D

The reticle goes where you point the jet, so being able to lock would not be good unless you like ramming your target. This is not an apache gun that can swivel, the jet is the gun so just learn to fly through the target. :D

Glad to hear the new kit is arriving safely; I was originally going to order mine through Flightstore but after a quick call that new stock 'might' be a few weeks away I went with Amazon. Actually ordered it last Tuesday for delivery today which I guessed was optimistic and an e-mail 3am this morning confirmed my fears 'due to unforseen circumstances my order couldn't be expedited' So I phoned them up and asked was the possible ETA was and was told ever so sweetly that I had been rescheduled for 28th November and was this ok....? After making it pretty clear that considering they had already taken the money for the order etc etc, I threatened to cancel and go somewhere else. "Hold on a minute" she said sweetly as she put me on hold. Two minutes later ans she's back telling me there 'was a mixup' and that my order was now processed and would be with me 1-2 November and was that ok? Hehe, wife and kids going to Disney next week, a freezer full of curries, a fridge full of cold cider, A10 and a Warthog HOTAS...."of course that's ok" I said. Pays to complain...

Hi, I'm running A10 on an iMac using bootcamp without any problems at all. Everything is the same as using a generic PC i.e. TrackIR works fine etc. What method are you using to try and look around, the keyboard or a joystick hat? If the hat, then check the options for control and see if your hat has been recognised by the game. If not then reconfigure in that screen to use the hat to move your view. Hope this makes sense ^^

My vote would be Afghanistan every time; it's a current theatre of operations and even though the A-10 against the Taliban is a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, multi-ops with ground troops, Apaches and the like would be a perfect scenario especially in a campaign to chase the Taliban all way back to their mountain strongholds and oblivion.

Optimised DCS Warthog? I'm enjoying the beta but on my duo-core rig and 8800GS card it's obviously a little 'raw' at the moment. My question is that Black Shark runs beautifully on my rig, so will the optimised (release) A-10 run similarly or a little worse? TIA

Finally pulled the trigger on this the other night after lurking in various DCS:A10 forums. I was a little hesitant as I only have a dualcore iMac running Windows XP via bootcamp, but all my worries disappeared the first time I fired up a mission and saw how detailed and smooth this sim is even in it's 'raw' beta state. So one very happy camper, now to get the warthog hotas/MFDs and have some real fun! :D

You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
Georgio replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You know when you've been flying too long when you twitch in your sleep to imaginary SAMs coming in....the wife finds this almost as annoying as spending a disproportionate amount time flying in the first place ^^ -
Hehe this brings back memories of when I first bought my Cougar after using the original FLCS for years. I had sold the FLCS to a mate and managed to sneak the Cougar in unseen from the wife. I put the cougar in exactly the same position as the FLCS joy/throttle and she clocked it within 10 seconds... "what's that?" she said pointing to the shiny new Cougar. "hmm, my joystick honey" I mumbled. "You must think I was born yesterday, that's different" "Hmm, well it's sort of the same" I mumbled again. "Sort of?" she thundered. "so how much did this 'sort of' joystick cost?".... I am always amazed how she manages to notice my new kit, and yes she wears the trousers :D

Bought mine in Game a while ago despite the manager assuring me that there were no copies in the store. I looked on the shelves anyways to see if anything else was out and there was one copy of Black Shark which I quickly bought. I guess that in comparison to PS3 sales, a specialist PC title isn't worth worrying about, why he probably thought it was a game about sharks that swim :)
