OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
Georgio replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
Thank you, that worked perfectly. -
Previous OpenXR user with standalone DCS. Since updating startup hangs and SteamVR insists on opening which is freaking irritating as I don't want SteamVR. Was all working perfectly pre the latest patch, now it's totally fubarred and I haven't a clue where to start with this mess. Deleted SteamVR and now DCS does start with OpenXR as it should, hardly ideal though as I need SteamVr for other programs. Found the culprit. For some reason in the WMR portal the setting for 'When I open Mixed Reality Portal, automatically start Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR' had checked itself.

Close but I'd say February 15th as a love gift... Though saying that imagine it, all the excuses why you can't take partners out for a nice meal...
-
Now that actually looks useful, thank you.

Tried the Channel map yesterday for the first time. The only problem I have now is that after flying in MS2020 in VR every other sim seems like toy town especially with regard to the colours. Both the Channel and Normandy maps seem like they're coloured with kids crayons i.e. bright greens and totally unrealistic for the area. I know that MS2020 uses bing data, but it's more than that as the terrain, foliage, buildings, colours, pretty much everything is spot on. Here's hoping that DCS implement something similar in the future.

Thrustmaster Warthog Slew Controls Inverted?
Georgio replied to INFIDEL's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Bear in mind that the slew upgrade is made in batches, so if you want it order earlier rather than later. I fitted this some years ago and it makes control of the radar cursor and maverick view what it should have been with the stock hog. Incidently I also use for directional thrusters during parking in Elite Dangerous as it gives supreme control... -
Rain and windscreen wipers in 2.5+ ?
Georgio replied to silent one's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
IL-2 currently has great raindrop effects when you fly through clouds and they stream back from the canopies very realistically. No reason why the same couldn't be incorporated into DCS though more for helos as jets tend not to worry about wipers...:D -
Looking forwards to the new cockpit, hope it looks as good in VR...
-
Looks like the new cockpit is incoming soon...:D

My most expensive module by far... feeling bad..
Georgio replied to Koriel's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Also waiting patiently for the updated Ka-50 as it was my original module many years ago and I've always loved it. -
Liking the new cockpit, I had to adjust my IPD and seat position but that's understandable. A Rift S user appreciates the hard work...

Had a CV1 for 2 years, now updated to the Rift S for the past 3 months. Rift S is a massive upgrade from the CV1 in all aspects except audio. There isn't a 'small' increase in resolution, it's night and day. All gauges are clearly visible in both DCS and IL-2. Inside out tracking is great, glad to get away from sensors all over the shop.

Ah wow, now that looks superb...

Nice tip on the DMS long down, much easier than fiddling with the rotary...:D

I would also add in that the HTC Cosmos headset is releasing October 3rd and looks very promising. It's not the cheapest at $699 or £699 in the UK but judging by the specs it merits consideration. I'm still torn between a small upgrade from my CV1 to Rift S or to go all in with the Cosmos at nearly double the cost. Decisions, decisions...

Just a thought, but even if the 30mm doesn't penetrate the armour surely there is scabbing off the inside?

Dear Heatblur, holy cow, what an amazing job!
Georgio replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I've been busy with work so have only had a couple of flights in the F-14 but I would also add that it is absolutely awesome in VR, both pits are fantastic and show a real labour of love to get this module as good as it can be given current technology. Thank you guys, if I'd had a view of this in VR back in my Microprose Fleet Defender days I swear I would have had a heart attack...:D -
Only had a chance for a quick flight and this is a beauty in VR, the cockpits are suitably grimy and lived in. Only on a normal Rift but it looks fantastic and I can read most dials without having to use VR zoom...

You boys need the Alarm anti-radar missile to compliment the Harm. Fire it in loiter mode where it climbs to altitude and deploys a parachute above a known target that has shut down. You simply pop-up and wait. As soon as that radar lights up, the missile fires a secondary motor, homes in on the van and boom big hole in radar coverage.

Why is VR FPS so poor in comparison to monitor?
Georgio replied to imacken's topic in Virtual Reality
My understanding of the DCS engine is that it’s old architecture doesn’t allow multiple cores except for sound. To incorporate true multi-core optimisation would require a complete rewrite of the code which simply isn’t going to happen. Maybe at some time in the future some enterprising publisher will stump up the money to fully optimise a flight sim for VR but probably not until VR technology matures. Remember, this isn’t the 90’s, flight sims are a very select slice of the market with sales in the thousands at best not the millions that consoles enjoy, so consequently resources are extremely limited. -
Make sure you have the chaff/flares active as they seem to be off by default, so you think you're popping flares/chaff but aren't.

Mine arrived Saturday and had it up and running in about 5 minutes, what a difference!!! Thanks again for the swift service on getting these out.

Beta is beta, if you can't stand the wait probably best to go play minecraft for a few months then update...:D

Love plinking tanks with the mk82's, no problem here with the hornet and CCIP, even a near miss will brew them up. You just need to make sure that you are as smooth as possible on the lining up and release.
