  1. HI Butcher Using WinRAR I can rename eveything, get the coalitions I want, but I can't seem to open the misison in DCS - comes up with 'DCS cannot read the file Template.miz' . I haven't repacked it or anything, but the file size is noticably smaller than before???
  2. Right, I've found the file, and where I should edit it, but I don't know which numbers to put in, and I don't know how to edit it ( WinRAR). I can't delete or type or anything, and opening in notepad ++ gives about a million random icons. Any more info?
  3. Thanks very much - will report back!
  4. Hello all. I tried to edit the deployment mission 1 so I could use the wonderful static objects and FARP arrangement etc, but I found that once I did I was stuck with having Russia Georgia Turkey and Insurgents, but I want to use the UK, USA, France, Germany etc. There must be an easy way of editing this without deleting everyone, or possibly could someone more experienced with mission files tell me which lines to edit to include these countries. Thanks in advance Warbird
  5. Yes of course, termanal velocity is a different matter, and I can't be bothered to work the terminal velocity out of the KA-50, it may or may not be accurate in this sim.
  6. ah ok thankyou very much
  7. Sorry about this, but I can't find an answer anywhere When you add reputation, and leave a comment, it says you might get rep back in return. How do you know when this happens? And also, when I look in my profile, it says I have something like 59 rep points - how does the icon ( coloured square with number) react to these? Again sorry, probably a stupid question, but if you don't ask, you don't get.
  8. Yes i think the only easy way is to set up say 10 of the same units, and trigger each one in turn. Sorry :(
  9. Brilliant idea for a thread - a sticky i suggest! My wish list - Number 1 - 3D misison editor. Number 2 - As above, the start/stop/hover triggers, but with an inbuilt landing function- eg chinook lands at waypoint 2 for a set time etc Number 3 to be able to set trigger zones as simple lines - i.e when player crosses this line trigger... etc. This is good when building missions and allows for players not passing through the exact area of the trigger zone to still cause actions. Number 4 - Interactive comms ( as above). Just a simple trigger thingy would be fantastic, and completely enhance DCS for me. Thanks for listening ED!!! :D
  10. And it's not a max speed as in a manufacturers limit, this is some boffin working out with hundreds of equations.
  11. Nope :D As I said before, the blades would break the sound barrier. The limit I stated was the maximum speed - that's vertical, horizontal, upside down . Any faster and the blades break the barrier. Even with low RPM, the airspeed + blade speed will be above the barrier.
  12. So 620= dead :D
  13. The max speed physically possible for a helicopter is just over that set by the Lynx, the reason being any speed over that would mean the blades would break the sound barrier, which is bad :D No-one has and no-one ever will go faster than that, even in a dive because it is physically impossible.
  14. Yes you can just picture it - Four hundred warsaw pact battleships confronted by several very angry swiss men and six small patrol boats :D
  15. haha, do they actually have a navy???
  16. You get boats on lakes do you not? :D
  17. I AM REPOSTING THIS BECAUSE IT IT IS A BUG MODERATORS ! :D I didn't put it in the wish list because it is something that doesn't work properly. For your sake, moderators, I shall rewrite this query so it is less likely to be viewed as a 'wish'. In DCS BS amphibious vehicles do not travel on water. Small boats top about a kilometre offshore and small boats do not work on lakes (ie not sea). Why is this so and will it be fixed? Warbird
  18. Any ED people know if this is ever going to be adressed?
  19. Shame.. that area just misses out helmand. From what you've said it seems like you are quite a way into that project, but if it's not too late, Helmand is definetly worth a go - heaviest fighting in afghanistan and also a nice populated area for some variatiion in scenery :D
  20. I imagine by the time the missile has burnt its motor out, the missile has a pretty good lock on you. I'm guessing here, but I'd say the best chance of evasion is when the missile is far away, because your plane and flares will appear closer together.
  21. I'd say your PC will run DCS fine! I have almost the same specs as you, possibly slightly worse, and I can run DCS on the Georgia campaign on medium/high settings. With DCS, even at the lowest settings the scenery blows FSX away.
  22. looks fantastic! Any plans for helmand???
  23. Suggestion to ED RE Amphibious vehicles and smaller boats. I have recently been building a mission which involves a coastal assault on an area rougly 3km long. My first problem is that I envisaged the amphibious LAV storming up the beach etc, but the amphibious things are obviously not amphibious. I don't care too much about animation, so if ED could just let the thing travel up to the beach, and carry on onto land. I'm no programmer, and I bet it gets annoying amateurs like me making suggestions that will take hours of programming etc, but if you don't ask, you don't get :D Secondly, If I have the Oliver Hazzard Perry DD in a 'support' role, as in floating about 15ks offshore, then it will attack every enemy in about a 100mile radius. Obviously, this gets annoying when I want to launch an attack without friendly forces getting zapped by a tomahawk from 30 miles off. Is there a way around this? Finally, the small armed boats stop about 500m offshore, and being tiny and with a small draught, this is not realistic at all. Any ways around that one? Sorry for the long-windedness of that :D Warbird
  24. I think the JSF/F-35 and WAH-64 have the MAWS, or Missile approach warning system, basically a small radar system that will passively ( don't know how) detect heat seekers and unnoticed radar guided missiles. The Harrier GR7 and 9 have it as well.
