  1. 100m? That's miles ( not literally :D)! On the Deployment campaign I had to lower my gear and scrape along the pass! I failed.... :D hehehe
  2. Thankyou very much for your kind comments Oldflyer! I am glad you mentioned the uncertain combat/retasking side of this mission - that is exactly how I intended it to come across, or you could say I wanted to avoid the 'two tanks will be here at this time and they wil have escort of etc etc' type scenarios. Once again, thanks for the comment, and don't worry about not commenting sooner :) Warbird
  3. Thanks Rhino for you reply - it is much appreciated! The Briefing was less detailed, beacuse, as I said in my first post, it is not a standalone mission and part of a campaign, so when playing it as part of the campaign, you would know the situation already. In answer to your second point, when I have played it, the hummers do eventually explode, and the troops die, but you are right in that I should have enemy moving in etc. I intended when I started making the mission to have it playable at all levels, and I sometimes find time constraints a bit intense :D, but I have taken that point on board and will edit the misison accordingly. AA threats ; I was planning to put some random triggers for SAM threats later on, but I was focusing on realism here, and Taliban style insurgents have very few Manpad devices and are very reluctant to use them, and I have put plently of AA threats in further missions. You are right about the distance to the base being easily close enough for an IRT response, and that is simply down to me completely overestimating the distance from base, and again, I will edit accordingly. The home run type mission is a good idea, but I want to stick with the same format I have here - friendlys pinned down etc, but I can understand how you feel about that. Finally, I thought I put it in the brief, but anyway, the mission was in support of a clearance mission intended to significantly reduce or completely remove the AA threats to incoming aircraft. Imagine a Hercules low on approach, and some guy on a rooftop with a stinger. This combined with little equipment fit to maintain several helicopters ( newly captured) means that I was waiting at least two missions before the airbase is suitable for use. Again, thanks for the reply. Warbird
  4. I assumed that joining this community would mean an end to sarcastic and unhelpful comments such as the one you have just made. I see this is not the case. As is so sadly often the case, there is always one who seems to lack even a shred of respect for his or her fellow gamers, and spends their time leaving brief and harsh messages, of which the sole purpose is a lethargic attempt to show of their intellectual superiority. I am not going to get involved in a battle of words with you Einstein, because I am not naiive enough to think that I could win, but I leave you with this ; I left my mission up as a way of giving back something to my fellow members who have helped my so much in my 'beginner' stage of Black Shark. All I asked for in return was a comment on the mission, which is not an unreasonable demand. As I'm sure anyone can appreciate, when one has what now approaches forty downloads of one's mission, it can get slightly frustrating. I did not expect a snide and offensive reply to my further requests for a comment, and I think that you do a lot to degrade the DCS community as a whole. You are an injustice to this forum, and I hope you see the fault in your ways.
  5. Sorry I I'm missing something, but what Republic missions? Thanks for the reply though mate
  6. Try sticking the flight director on ( button on the AP contol panel). As far as I'm aware this overrides most AP channels
  7. Dsobbe I think that's the problem there. I can't remember what the other Weapons mode selector switch option is, but I think it's something along the lines of Slave to target. Don't select the HNY, because I'd guess this just confuses the system, because as far as I know, that option is only for cannon. Hope that helps Warbird
  8. Sorry dsobbe, just seen your post. Not sure what the problem is.... possibly stupid, but check master arm, laser standby etc, and I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to fire whatever is selected on the weapons front? Obviously you can't fire rockets whilst vikhir is selected, so make sure unguided weapons are your ONLY weapons selected. Cannon, once foxed me, you probably know this, but C selects and deselects cannon, so make sure it is deselected. Hope that helps Warbird
  9. Try switching the flight director on. No autopilot interfering, so I can get much smoother landings with that
  10. Just tested this out, and there is no solution I can see. I'd guess ED assumed you would be placing units fairly close together. The only possible go-around would be to create new groups for each launcher. Hope that Helps Warbird
  11. And then an afghanistan map :p:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P:P
  12. No probloem - I was joking anyway. You could still try my method. Just don't have any Groud to Air Radars or SAM systems, and no AWACS.
  13. You should find two 'spikes' or 'tubes' on the front. One is static ( that's the overhead panel switch pitot static'. That senses the airspeed directly in front of the aircraft, aligned with the vertical and horizontal axes. The second tube, pitot AoA or Angle of Attack swivels to face the airflow, therefore if you were pitching up with idle colllective, the tube would swivel downwards to face the direction the aircraft is travelling in. The wings help align the tube with the airflow. Hope that helps Warbird
  14. In my experience, the car heads along the road to the left assuming you are looking at the target from the ingress point. You can also try pressing F7 until you find the offending car, and that will give an exact indication of the positioning. Good luck! Warbird
  15. Well, Arne, I stand corrected. You were right, and well done for getting this great idea up!
  16. Sorry Arne, I didn't put my point across properly. I know that there would be absolutely no disadvantages for ED to participate in this, but I've seen things like this happen on other forums without any official sponsorship. I don't know why, simply basing my assumptions on experience, so don't take me as saying " you're wrong". I'd welcome ED to join in with this idea, but I just don't think it's likely. However, it would be good to get an ED opinion on this matter, and as I said before, I think the idea is really good!!!! There's always the option of doing this without ED??? Warbird
  17. I downloaded tacview, but I can't find DCS terrain? Do you know how i get to it ?
  18. Just to register my interest in it!!!! I doubt that ED would offer any prizes ( pleeeeaseee prove me wrong :PPP), but the idea would be great. I'd agree with Weta in that we all suggest scenarios ( not sure who to? Mabye Wags or one of the senior ED guys) and then everyone can contribute their missions as long as they conform to the scenario, and we could make a sort of 'DCS Community Grand Campaign' . We could also have a set number of missions - for example a 10 mission campaign, scenario decided by Weta's method and then ED guys create the basic campaign plan - as in they say "first mission, Casualty evacuation near Mineral N'Ye Vody" and we all compete to create the mission. To avoid one exceptionally good designer winning all the mission stages, we should say whoever wins a single mission cannot contribute again
  19. 1) no idea 2) You can get aircraft inside bunkers, but the only way I've worked out is if you have for example an F15 takeoff from parking, no waypoints, task as GAI, you can then have the aircraft inside hangars. Not sure why you want them though? The doors will be closed so you can't really see them, but if an early warning radar or AWACS spots something, they come out of their hangars and takeoff which looks quite cool Hope that helps Warbird
  20. I think Arne means without starting the 'game' as in the actual flying world. I have asked this question a few times, and the answer is always no, but a little thing that I hadn't noticed that helps A LOT is the bar at the bottom with coordinates and ground level altitude ( the altitude is the altitude under the mouse). This can be used if you want to set a low level flight for example, without guessing heights and where valleys are etc, you can use that thing. Hope that helps Warbird
  21. Brilliant - I'll look forward to that book. Another one I would reccomend is 'Apache Dawn' by Damien Lewis. That's by a journalist and author and about Apaches ( hence that name haha) in Afghanistan too. I'd actually say it's better written that Ed's book, but it doesn't go into the technical detail that i'm a sucker for like APACHE does.
  22. Brilliant book isn't it? Really hammers home what the apaches and to use the cliche 'our boys' are doing out in the GAFA
  23. What a coincidence hahaha Have you read his book?
