  1. Well here's my current desktop, a boring old LockOn screenshot of Walmis's F-15. :)
  2. Great work, sylkhan, thanks a lot! Sure the translation's goofy sometimes, but it's certainly much more helpful than the purely Russian text. Given we've got another month until the official English version, this will do nicely. :)
  3. I don't think there's a 50-word limit - I was pasting entire pages from the Russian manual into Babelfish and it translated the entire thing: http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ Anyway, hey look, I agree this could take forever, I just thought if we could gather a group of people willing to do 20-30 pages each (a few hours' work) we could bang it all out in a very short time. The geek factor alone seemed like enough motivation to at least propose it. :)
  4. Just did the first 5 pages of the first section: http://www.box.net/shared/pdntsf99zl It ain't pretty, but with some creative reading you can figure it out.
  5. Thanks Wags, but there's no duplication of effort to worry about, I don't think: if I can rally these guys to it, I think we could knock out an ugly but functional FM translation within a week. :)
  6. Y'know, guys, in my opinion Babelish does a better translation (albeit nowhere near perfect, of course) than Google Translation. What if we broke up the translation between us? If there are 20 of us willing to work on it, that'd be 18-19 pages each: you translate, section by section, each page of your allotted part of the manual, then create a Word doc with a 1-to-1 page correspondence. Then all assembled, we'd have the Russian original manual and a page-for-page English translation. Why not try it? I've just done this for the first two pages of the Table of Contents, cleaned it up a bit, and uploaded it here, took me less than 10 mins: http://www.box.net/shared/0fmjeien6o
  7. Polecat, this is an interesting comment from you considering that I see your Cougar profile doesn't make use of the /U, /M, /D toggles! :) No insult or criticism intended, just gave me a chuckle. I do very much appreciate, BTW, having your profile to start with, thus saving me all the time of typing in the commands. Thanks!
  8. Hmm, I don't know Wags ... Babelfish's translation is MUCH more entertaining for things like ABRIS Axis Push: "CONTOUR, Manipulator is the Pressure".
  9. Woah, nice job! Looking forward to taking the Tomcat for a spin.
  10. Don't you know that hyperlobby is a virus designed to destroy your computer, make you sick, and burn down your house? No really ... it is. C'mon guys, listen to me, really it is! (sorry, it just had to be said) :)
  11. Actually, that TouchBuddy window alone is 800x600. :) That's what I would have thought, too, though. But no, it's a Westinghouse LCM-22W3, runs at 1680x1050, 5ms, 700:1 contrast ratio. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8268466&type=product&id=1170290375913&AID=10474050&PID=227502&SID=97661-n-10&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bestbuy.com%2Fsite%2Folspage.jsp%3FskuId%3D8268466%26type%3Dproduct%26id%3D1170290375913 Only downside is fixed base and 6-bit rather than 8-bit color, although many people seem to think for most usage it doesn't matter. I would say, it's definitely not as nice as my Dell 2405FPW, but a damn good value for the price.
  12. Yes, TouchBuddy is nice on a second monitor - I just bought one this weekend, a 22" widescreen from Best Buy for $180, pretty good deal and I couldn't resist.
  13. I just bought a second monitor too, so I spent some time playing with dual-monitor setups over the weekend. As far as I know, there is simply no way to get LockOn, or most other games for that matter, to automatically span across two monitors, regardless of whether the Windows Desktop is already doing it, unless there's specifically an option in the graphics config to choose a resolution that uses it (for example 2560x1024). Regarding rf rate, it means refresh rate, but is measured much differently for an LCD than a CRT. With CRTs it really affects eye strain, whereas with LCDs it doesn't. This page has a pretty good explanation: http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1248
  14. zaelu, Glad to hear that there was something wrong with the upload, I couldn't figure out what was going wrong! If uploading a 50MB file doesn't work to that site, you might try http://www.megaupload.com, I've been using them for a while with no problems. Thanks!
  15. zaelu, I was able to download both pictures, but the bigger one only shows up as 11MB, are you sure yours in 50MB? Even this 11MB one, though, seems to eventually crash the programs I try to open it with when I try to zoom in close. What program do you use to view it?
  16. Yes, gorgeous skins, can't wait to send a stream of cannon rounds through 'em. :)
  17. zaelu, Thanks for the quick work! I'll have to wait about 8 hours until I get home to download it, though, as that site is blocked here at work for "pornography". (?) Will reply here when I get to it tonight.
  18. That would be great, I've been looking forward to this too.

    Wow, gorgeous, nice work EricJ.
  20. Ice, these skins are just incredible, thanks for your work put into them. And Ezor, thanks for making a Modman version ... I was holding off on downloading these until that had been done - wasn't up to fooling with CDDS's manually when I have everything else running through Modman. :)
  21. Guys, I asked this question months ago and Chizh confirmed that BS will in fact have the 'aspect ratio resetting' bug fixed. I didn't realize that the -25T had a problem with showing 'true' widescreen', so I don't know if that'll be fixed. But for now, as others have suggested, using LoCFG seems to be the easiest way to make sure it's set correctly.
  22. Yes SVK_Fox, you did an INCREDIBLE job with this movie, I loved every second of it. Thanks so much for putting all the time into it! Great job.
  23. Ah. Thanks for the clarifications, britgliderpilot. Now that I've got that straightened out, I can jump into confusing myself with how applying walmis's new F-15 model and the WF-33 model will change/affect the MeInit.xml file. :)
  24. Thanks for the quick answer, Skypat. But if I do what you suggested, won't I lose any changes that the skin pack made to the meinit.xml that were added to support the new skins? Anyway, I just downloaded the skins pack again from lockonfiles and found that it had been updated for 1.12. So I'll just unapply my current skins package (which should revert my meinit.xml back to 1.12a) and then apply the updated skins package. Hopefully there weren't any changes to that file between 1.12 and 1.12a!
  25. I recently built a new machine and had to reinstall LockOn; I used the retail LockOn CD, then the Flaming Cliffs downloadable version, then patch 1.12a. Last night I applied the Su25+Fictional+Skins package by ED through ModMan, and in so doing realized that the meinit.xml file was being modified by the package, with the readme stating that it would revert this file back to the 1.11 version. So now I'm wondering, did 1.12a make any changes to this file that I've now lost by applying the skins package AFTER the 1.12a patch?
