    New X:Rebirth

My dislikes so far, 2 hours of play. Setting up Warthog Joystick, Very very difficult, in the end i got yaw, pitch and throttle to work. forget about rudder input., not possibel. Nor can you assign any of the buttons on you'r Hotas to anything. Cockpit. Only straight ahead look, no looking to left or right or any other direction. No outside views or monitors like in the old games. It seems to me that in order to make it possible to play with a x-box controller ( prolly soon to be on xbox ) they had to throw out a lot of funtions, so they have dumbed down the entire game. Now, Microsoft Flight comes to mind, dumbed down to appeal more to the xbox generation, thought they could sell more that way, and look what happned to that enterprise. They simply forgot what segment of players that buy those games. Maps are confusing and without any zoom funtion. UI system confusing, and set up again to be used with xbox controller. I loved all the previous gamed in the X series, but so far i really am very dissapointed. The Graphics are however beautiful. Hopefully they can fix some of the problems with patches. UPDATE Went to Steams forum and saw a egosoft thread stating update plans: SO they do plan to add outside looks, and also to look around in the cockpit. with either POV hat or oculus Also zoom will be added to the maps. Improved Joystick support planned. UI improvements and a bunch of other stuff. PHEW getting hope back.
  2. I only bought the Mi-8 because it was at a reduced price and i can support the developers in some small way. I never actually thought i would fly it, due to the russian cockpit. IRL some forign users must have some mi-8s with "translated" cockpits. One can only hope that Belsim make a option to fly it with a english cockpit, as it will boost their sale. This MOD will actually make me fly it when released. TY a lot, exellent. Mike
  3. I upgraded from a gforce 6600 to a gforce gtx 670 and expected a huge frameraterate jump. Sadly it was exactly the same. So the DCS is at the moment probably more dependent on a good processor and ram. but in the future perhaps the egde engine wil use the power of modern graphics cards. Hoping.
  4. If the resolution is to low to use in DCS, i'm no to worried. There will be lost of other games where it will be marvelous and immersive. After all, remember the upcoming model will be MK1. and sell like crazy. With a sucess like that i'm sure MK2 wont be far off. I remember Ipad is starting to use retina dispalys, where you can't see the pixels at book range, so im sure there will come far better models within a few years.
  5. Actually I'm not really exited about the 3D freature. Hard to adjust to, and probably also a frameratekiller, have to calculate 2 different monitor outputs, instead of just dublicating the same twice. What really is getting me exited, is the ability to sit and look anywhere in the cockpit, without the annoying trackIR flaw that goes beserk when you reach a point where the camera cant see your hat too well. That give me some trouble looking up and down. Hopefully OR will work much better in that respect.
  6. Well, I Loaded Dosbox, and tried a few of the oldies. Bad bad mistake. Because I remember them as beeing way better than what i saw in dosbox. I guess my imagination did a lot of the work back then. But seeing them now they look horrible. So comparing what we get now when we buy a game. to then. You really are getting value now.
  7. Flight simulator ZX 81 lol And petty much any simulator since then. I remember seeing Battlestar Galactica at the cinema, and same evening drew a flightstick with all those nice buttons and formfitting shape. Thinking If only the hardware guys knew our desires, dreaming away. That was when joysticks was the atari type with bubbles that wore out fast. Threw the drawing away thinking, that will never happen. Now i look at my Warthog, and realise my dream came trough.
  8. Arrived today tuesday 11th, 3 or so days from NZ and a week hold at local custom office. lol. Attached in seconds, worked perfect, increased heli control 10 fold. If you are serious about learning to fly the huey, this is a must upgrade IMHO. 10 cm, usually thats not long enough to make anyone happy, but in this case it is perfect :) Thanks for making this part available for other simmers. Mike
  9. Was considering to throw somthing together to extend my stick, as im' playing a bit with the huey now. A quick internet search lead me to this product, beeing a bit lazy also It was a no brainer so i asked trough the website if it was available for sale. And almost instantly i got a reply. Now that is a customer service minded guy. Thumbs up. The quick reply, and posts read here made me order one the nxt day. Thank you. can hardly wait. But don't spoil you'r weekend in the workshop some days longer is surviveable :) Mikael, Denmark copenhagen
  10. Got some severe damage in a ground attack flying low over a group of vehicles. Lost left wheel, not the strut. and countless other systems and stuff. limped home and landed, and the plane landed and taxied as nothing was wrong. Even braking was normal. so far from a realistic behavior thats if almost funny. SFM = stupid FM. Mrniel
  11. Attitude Indicator on A10-A also reverse in pitch. mrniel
  12. Dont think you will have any problems, I used to run a 2 screen setup, a 23 and 21 on a lowly gtx 560 ti with only 1 g ram. And that with every thing maxed out. Changed to a different setup now, but had no problems ramwise with the above. mrniel
  13. Did a fast test. with my normal setup running 2 monitors and a ipad. 2560*1440 monitor Primary 1024*768 monitor secondary running A10 VC server for ipad Track IR 4 running All on max execpt Only MSAA on 4x as the greater res does not make jaggies so greater is not nessesary. Trees 6000 bushes 0 Gives me around 40-50 FPS On a i7 OC with gtx 670. If I disable a few things, the framerate goes to 60-70 FPS. However, i like to have a high framerate when flying, it make finecontrol possibel, low framerate makes you overcorrect all the time. mrniel
  14. Thank you for your time and efford testing this, answers my question perfect. So it can be done, but is not worth the money as the framerate drop below playable ? Again ty all replyers. mrniel
  15. well, seems like i'm the only one, with this problem. Think i'll just continue with 1 main monitor and a secondary for MFDs. too expensive to buy 2 extra monitors only to find out it dosent work. if not exaxtly the same. to bad. mrniel
  16. So i decided to upgrade my GTX 560 TI to a GTX 680 4GB. Although i did not buy it to do triple monitor setup. I probably at some time would try it. My only problem is, that my monitor is a samsung S27B970 that cost a lot, and buying 2 more to try a triple monitor setup is simply out of the question. So here is the question Would it be possibel to buy 2 cheaper 27 inch monitors with fsx a 1920x1080 resolution and get them to work together with the S27970, wich by the way also can be lowered to 1920x1080. The gforce site states that you have to use 3 similar monitors to use surround 3D. But i'm only interested in 3 monitor 2D setup. Anyone tried to use a similar card with different monitors ? Mikael
  17. in addition to my previous post i just want to add, That i LOVE the mustang. All I'm saying is, that i find it unlikely that any ww2 planes is just around the corner, if at all, considering how and why DCS mustang was added. Mikael
  18. Ahem, If i'm not remembering totaly wrong, DCS mustang was a private sparetime project done by one of DCS employees, showing so much potention. that it was decided to bring it into DCS world. Anyway thats how I remember it. With that in mind, i find it unlikely that DCS is in the progress of adding another WW2 plane, or is planning so. If however the coustmer pressure to do so is very high, offcause it could happen, but would be a long time away. And frankly I'll rather se some more modern planes. But i think it's more likely tfor a 3rd party ww2 addon to appear if ever. Again I could be totally wrong and remember wrong. But I'm getting a little tired of all those ww2 wishlists, sorry. Mikael
  19. Fly Anapa to Vladikavkaz(Beslan), turn sout to Tbilisi, turn west to Kutaisi. Then return the same way. That's roughly London-Berlin. Thx, for the route. Think Ill. set it up in the mission editor, and try it out one of the next sudays when i have time, the critical part will probably be if i can manage fly without using to much fuel, better find that mustang manual and see what throttle setting and altitude gives the best range.
  20. considered testing a long range P51 mission ? I keep reading about how they flew to berlin and back. on other missions you also hear those planes beeing away for hours on end. So I thought it could be interresting to test the DCS Mustang with full fuel and see if one can approxcimate those range and mission length. Was trying to find a distance in DCS world that would be equal to east england - berlin distance and then perhaps do a sunday test, as it would take some time even with a bit of time compression. Would ANAPA -Tbilizi would be approximate a distance equal to london area - Berlin trip ?
  21. Regarding you'r observation on lacking artillery efficiency, i had a similar thing happening last nite. My predator drone came near a red arty battery so i was able to observe impacts. Had 2 battery of 109s 155 mm, and 2 MLRS pounding it for a solid hour, and not a single vehicle was destroyed. Wached for a long time from the predator impact pattern tightly grouped hit again and again set to cover the tight area the enemy occupied. Both soft trucks and fueltruck, seemed to be invincibel, or my shells made of cardboard. There was impacts literally straight on the trucks with no apperent effect. All in all there was probably delivered about a 1000 shells in a 200 m diameter over a hour. And not a single unit was destroyed. Weird. Was trying to do anti artillery work first before attack. Regarding t80s i think we all have noticed the range advantage they have. So i approached a single one from behind terrain cover, and 12 ai m1 crested 100 m from it to its side, it singel handed shot every abrams dead. And they had free fire on yes. Talk about a super crew. A coincident ? But all in all i'm wery impressed and happy with the product, and can live with a few oddities.
  22. Actually this was the first thing i was surprised about, learned real quick to point the weapon where i wanted to go and align the rest of the vehicle. But really a pain in the Bu**. I realise that it would take a tremendeous efford to make all the driver positions, but thats really not nessesary. A simple align turret to front key, momentarely or locked would help quite a lot controlling the vehicle.
  23. Actually single player works, but a few steps have to be taken. Trying to remember as i hav no access to game at writing moment. First use create quick mission. Set armor levels to other than 0. Activate mission editor, where you will see a auto generated battle layout. Click on the 2 small flage on the left side, that will open a small window on your right side where you can control how many roles can be filled. click on all on the right side blue but the top one, to play one side fek.s. blue. And pilot can control vehicle button also. You really don't want to be game master as you also could control enemy units then. When starting from mission editor by clicking the blue checkmark on left side. you will be given option to select role. When entering game, use F10 and select a vehicle by leftclicking on it, bradleys, humwees tanks ect. on your top left you will now see a small tank icon, click on it and presto you are controlling that vehicle. Now to drive it, you have to put it in gear by pressing x first, then W to go forward. Standart controls here, A + D to steer, W + S to accelerate and brake. Z + X to gear select. A bit of caution here, you'r view is always the turret view, so point the turret to where you want to go, then align the rest of the vehicle. all from memory, if anyone can follow this, i'm impressed. now i strongly recommend to activate fog of war in the main menu options, after trying this once to give a bit of challenge.
  24. Yes F10 fire at point works, one of the first things i checked. Drove up to a brigde in a humwee, and used the funtion, remember to click on start fireing. You have to wait a little time as artillery have longer reload time and ballistic flight time. Buildings go down fast, bridges takes quite some time to down.
