Eurofighter and Su-30MKI Exercise
britgliderpilot replied to D-Scythe's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
It is interesting, but I didn't see the quote saying it - apart from secondhand from the journalist. If the Typhoon was outmaneuvred by an Su30 without thrust vectoring, I'd be quite disappointed in our new acquisition . . . . -
Point Nine Experience (EECH movie)
britgliderpilot replied to Piffer's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Black Shark has pretty much everything licked in terms of modelling. The only reason it might not be as detailed as F4 is the F-16's radar - the Ka50 of course not having a radar. The systems it does have, though . . . . . wow. EECH 1.9 looks like a fantastic effort at updating an old sim - well worth getting. -
customer feedback (sharing is caring)
britgliderpilot replied to Dagger98's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Can't do any harm to ask for a different copy protection system, whatever your reasons for asking. I reckon if ED can find something less . . . well, let's say controversial . . . than Starforce that can protect as well from piracy, then they'll probably do it :) Ultimately, though, if they still consider Starforce the best copy protection system out there, then that's most likely what BS will ship with. -
blue water ops: some questions
britgliderpilot replied to tflash's topic in User Created Missions General
I think you want to check out this thread: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=6367 I asked a lot of the same questions and Alfa came through with some superb answers - even got about halfway through designing and building an Su33 campaign. Sadly, though, RL commitments got in the way and it died . . . still haven't found the time to pick it up again. -
F-15 Aim 120 Lob shot does not work?
britgliderpilot replied to cool_t's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Asking for fixes doesn't deserve a warning or a banning. However, when the asking for fixes turns into angry demands fixes that it has been repeatedly stated may be coming if you have patience, and precipitates a flamewar taking up most of the forum . . . that's just pointless. Fixes may be forthcoming if ED can do them, that's the reality, and another flameware and continued demands from the forum community does nothing to help it. I think Ice is just trying to jump on that one before it gets ahead of itself . . . -
F-15 Aim 120 Lob shot does not work?
britgliderpilot replied to cool_t's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
He didn't do it, he's suggesting that ED do it. -
When do you think they will release BS
britgliderpilot replied to destruct's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yup :) -
When do you think they will release BS
britgliderpilot replied to destruct's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
General warning - that's the wrong way around. Any potential further patch for FC will only be released after Black Shark is finished. Still be good, though. I'm sure someone in the ED office has a crystal ball and a santa suit . . . . -
MiG-29K -> can someone explain me the logic?
britgliderpilot replied to mcnab's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I love that attitude. Me personally, I've been looking for evidence of the affair between Claudia Schiffer and Anna Kournikova for years - no success yet, but I know it happened. It's only a matter of time. -
I understood it was technically possible to create new cockpit 3D models? There was some discussion about using the arguments setup to move needles and so forth . . . . and having to work out what each argument controlled from scratch. So if you could do it, it would certainly be rather time-consuming . . .

Mmmn. Provocative name. Two posts of a provocative nature. Well it's either a lurker who's been paying close attention, or someone suffering a recent ban coming back to play . . . . now honestly, I'd have thought IK and Hitman were above that, so who does that leave . . . Dude, if you say you're going to leave . . . . . then leave. Don't come back and be childish ;)

Google says! http://www.nomi.med.navy.mil/NAMI/WaiverGuideTopics/pdfs/Waiver%20Guide%20%20-%20Ortho.pdf I don't know which branch of which service that's for - it's a Lightning Google act - but the discussion seems to indicate that actually, 9 degrees might not be an instant disqualification :)

Air-to-mud is the future, as we've known for a while. I think Steel Beasts has mud-to-mud covered, but you never know ;)

The Ka-50 Black Shark thread
britgliderpilot replied to Force_Feedback's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Can't prove it - but they look like DIRCM turrets or similar. Directs an IR or laser beam at incoming heaters to confuse/blind them. Anyone know for sure? -
You're not seriously suggesting that past products should dictate a software companys entire future development? As far as I can figure out, the most anyone will have paid for Lomac/FC is about $60, rather less if they came to it later. They now have 8 jets, modelled pretty well, looking good, still fun to fly, and you'll most likely get another patch to fix the jet that has a couple of errors. ED are even going back to fast jets after the Ka50, and they'll be at the Ka50's level of detail . . . . which will, by the way, blow your mind. So what's to complain about? Is this JetWhining just a display of impatience that ED aren't working on the aircraft you want NOW NOW NOW!? Some people complained about the Su25T being the subject of Flaming Cliffs - well here's exactly the same thing all over again. A bunch of the people who complained vociferously about that jet now fly it perfectly happily . . . . just get over it and add another string to your virtual aviation bow.
-
Do I detect some bitterness here Rugg? In all seriousness, we're all here to have fun. There's not much any of us can do to materially affect the decisions of ED, sooo . . . . just chill out and enjoy it. Start taking it too seriously and you'll turn into Mower. *ducks*

Congratulations BlueFor
britgliderpilot replied to S77th-GOYA's topic in User Created Missions General
Yoda's RvE, right? Those guys have always been pretty good. They're not big and they're not famous . . . . but you'd better watch out if you see them coming! I need to get in on one of these at some point. -
I think you've got a point. I mean . . . . they've already got a sim. The whirlybird fans don't. How unfair is that? :D
-
That'd be my guess.
-
Well as should be obvious from the screenies, the Ka50 only has one sighting system - that's the Shkval optical sighting system as used in the Ka50. So no night-attack capability. If you're feeling brave, there ARE night vision goggles, and I suppose there's nothing to stop you using unguided weapons at night. If you can find your target. So it's the daytime Ka50 with very, very limited night ops capability.

Try this link for cockpit colour discussion: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=10246

IIRC the cockpit colours are to do with whether they're the night or day version - one of the colours works better with NVGs. For more information you need to hunt down the blurb describing the process through the prototypes - it's much understanding that there's not really a standard equipment fit on the Ka50, it keeps evolving with each prototype. As for the cannon and rear landing gear . . . . have you tried hunting through the various promo videos? I think I remember seeing a good shot of the cannon installation as a Ka50 was lifting off in one of them.

Whoa, IK got banned? I guess I missed the bitter end of that thread then . . . . bits I saw he seemed OK. Things do seem to be degenerating rather - a clear statement from ED could help a bit. Fundamentally, though, Black Shark's the future and that's what they're working on. Every week they'd spend on a patch for FC, every week the Beta Testers would spend testing it, every week ED would spend tweaking the patch . . . . that's a week they can't work on FC. You can't split the development and testing effort in two. Did I gather that the Blue Force won Red Flag, by the way? I haven't been keeping up, but that implies that both FC and the F-15 work well enough to be enjoyable and even still win . . . . for any more realism the F-15 guys will just have to be patient. As will the guys who want the Ka50 . . . .

MiG-21 used plain water for AB?!!
britgliderpilot replied to Vekkinho's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yup, precisely. Water as used in the Harrier is just a temporary cooling method, allowing you to burn more fuel - the extra fuel burn for the extra thrust WITHOUT the water cooling would burn up the turbine. There are other ways to cool the HP turbine, but they're generally speaking heavy and expensive . . . . and even if you implement them, the water injection system still gives you a boost over your max thrust :)
