  1. Good day. I am having a problem with training missions, where the camera seems more zoomed in than the "tutorial" expects. The result is that I don't see what is going on, as the camera is too zoomed in (note that this is before taking control, I'm just watching the "animation" and listening to the narration). For example, in ABRIS introduction mission, when the mission takes you through turning on the ABRIS, the camera then focuses on the ABRIS screen as it boots up, but all I actually see is the upper left corner of the screen. Any help would be thouroughly appreciated. Thank you. Itkovian
  2. Allright, can't wait to get it. For now, I'm trying to get at least one startup minor flight/landing a day, and also one lesson. I also played the battle mission (just to check it out, given how it apparently eats resources), and got my first Vikhr kill (though tanks have proven a tough nut to crack). That said, I'm having a bit of a bother with the training missions. Basically, the camera starts more zoomed in than the mission is made for, and I don't see anything that they do. For example, in the ABRIS overview mission, when they zoom onto the ABRIS I only see the upper left corner of the screen, and so have no idea what is going on. Has anybody run into that problem before? Thank you. Itkovian
  3. Is that the copy that is up for order on the website (which hopefully is on the way as we speak)? Itkovian
  4. Quite frankly, at 50$ it is worth it for me, given how many hours I can invest in the game. Besides, printing the F4 AP manual on normal paper in a 3 ring binder cost me around that price as well (at Staples). If for the same amount I get a well bound and easy to consult manual, I am more than willing to shell out the money. :) Itkovian
  5. Another question: Is there a good description somewhere on how to fly a pattern, like the training mission? The training mission sounds good, but unfortunately there seems to be a bug where the camera zoom gets stuck, and so I don't get to see where the cursor (which is automatically moved) is actually meant to point. Where does it get this pattern, for example (I know it uses ADF, but I am rather murky on it). Anyway, this is a great sim, and so far I have learned to start up the aircraft and do some basic flying (taxiing, takeoff, landing, hovering, though my flying is far from smooth *grin*). Thank you. 6. I ordered mine straight from DCS. I believe the order was listed as sent a day later (a few days ago). I hope I get it soon, it's very difficult to get anything done. I imagine having a laptop to read it on as you play is a good way to handle the pdf, but since I am playing it on my laptop in the first place, that option is not available. :) Itkovian
  7. I believe I had the same problem myself. What you need to do is go into the FF setup menu, and reverse the axis. It is a problem with the MS FFB2. Itkovian
  8. From what I understand, the whole point of all these flight assistance systems is so you can spend more of your attention on using the combat systems, so I'll try to work with them (whatever it is that the real pilots do, I want to do it *grin*). Itkovian
  9. This is a very chilling video, but most impressive. :) Itkovian
  10. This fix in the new patch is not related to the new trimming method, correct? I gather this new trimming method only matters for people with no FF joystick, since they need to re-center their stick, while with FF the trim just holds the stick in position. If yes, then good, that means I can just throw my stick around and not have to keep the trim key pressed. Incidentally, the maneuver you just explained, do you basically mean rolling onto the side then pulling back on the cyclic to turn quickly, like pulling a tight turn on an airplane? I imagine you can't pull the turn for long before you need to get upright, mind you. :) Itkovian
  11. So press the trim button as I push the stick around? Or is that only when I am making a course change or some such? Or if you prefer, say I notice I'm taking fire and need to do some evasive maneuvers, what should I do concerning trim and the likes? Itkovian
  12. Oh, I'm not actually flying the thing yet... or rather I have and know how the trim feels, but figuring out how trim works is about the only thing I've learned so far (aside from how to Slam Into Ground). This is a theoretical section. I'm just seeing two posts that contradict each other. In the FAQ thread, it says it is best to press and release trim as that's what actual pilots use, whereas in the newbie thread it says to keep trim pressed, but that it may be fixed in the patch. I use FF, and pressing the trim is definitely a huge change, as it suddenly releases all pressure on the stick, so if I do need to maneuver like that it does make steering more difficult (because the stick is floating freely). Thank you. Itkovian
  13. I'd like to point out however that I have a FF joystick, so I actually feel less control when I press the trim button (not resistance at all, basically). But my point is, the post that mentionned fighting the AP said that it probably would be fixed in a patch... do we know if that's been fixed, or am I always fighting the AP if I'm not pressing the trim button? And thank you for the reply, it's nice to see such a helpful community. Itkovian
  14. Good day. I just got the sim 3 days ago, and while I am very much in the process of RTFM (and ordered a printed copy as well), I do have some questions from time to time and thought I should just make a thread for them (instead of hijacking another *Grin*). So, here is a question: I have read in the newbie thread that it is recommended to hold the trimmer when making a course change, because otherwise you end up fighting the AP, yet the FAQ entry on trimming says it is advisable to just quickly press/release the trim once the course has been changed. My question therefore is: which is correct? What should I do when I am in need of urgent maneuvering? Thank you. Itkovian
  15. It's pretty amazing that it's even possible. Do single rotor aircraft have similar issues? Itkovian
  16. And what kind of maneuvering brings about something like that? Itkovian
  17. Thank you for the info. :) This brings up another question, which is more an extension of my ignorance of Things Rotary: Blade strikes? You mean something like an the upper rotor blade hitting a lower rotor blade? They can flex that much? Itkovian
  18. So under which circumstances is max collective a good idea? Thank you. Itkovian
  19. Just a question from someone who just got the game and is only starting the process of RTFMing (I also ordered a hard copy, so for now I'm being more casual about it, and trying to figure basics out - like how my FF stick needed to have its FF axis reverse for trimming to actually make sense *Grin*): Why exactly does the yellow light start flashing when I max out the collective? I thought it was something about overstressing the engines or some such, but you are saying it is more about low rotor RPM causing loss of generator power? Could anyone explain how this is happening? Too much angle of attack on the rotor blades, causing too much drag and slowing down the rotor? Itkovian
  20. Installed the game last night and patched it, works nicely (though granted I haven't tried a cmapaign or anything - is there a framerate hit for campaigns?). I figured out how to crash the helicopter! :) Oh, and that at least one of the beeps I was hearing was a threat warning indicator. :) I must admit I loved the first training "mission". That's one beautiful aircraft. Itkovian
  21. Ah, I get it. Cool. Well I'm buying Black Shark tonight anyway. I'll have to order the manual separately though. I loved Longbow 2, having another helicopter sim is quite exciting. :) In fact, when I read the preview about the full ramp start and shutdown procedure, as well as the fact you can (and probably will) spend hours messing around on the tarmac learning the avionics, I knew I needed it. :) Itkovian
  22. Salutations. I was wondering: how long does it take to ship and deliver the DvD and manual to the US? I definitely want to order the manual, and so I might as well get the DvD as well, but need to know approximatively when it will be delivered before I place my order. Thank you. Itkovian
  23. And what will it be exactly? is it an expansion to DCS blackshark? Or is DCS some sort of common interface that they will be releasing "plug-in" aircraft and environments? Thank you. Itkovian
  24. Salutations. I do not have DCS, but am something of a rabid study sim fan and DCS Blackshawk certainly looks very appealing (I haven't gotten it yet because I need to free up time to even start thinking about tackling another study sim *grin*). That said, I must admit I love the DCS concept. If I understand correctly, that is of having complex study-level simulations of different aircraft released as "expansions", all functioning within the same package. However, I must admit I do not know where to find official info about the upcoming "packages". For example, where is the A-10 "expansion" announced? Or even rumoured? The only place I could find any info on it is on sim HQ. I would appreciate any information, thank you. Itkovian
