I managed eventually. If in the dark, if you turn the Shkval brightness to max and then use the NVGs on the monitor itself you can pick out some of the details. Enough to aim properly once you've pointed the camera in the proper direction (muzzle flashes are a guide there). That said, I'm not sure how realistic that is. Should the NVG make things on the Shval TV more visible? :) Itkovian

Salutations. My previous thread in general discussion on this topic has been deleted, so hopefully here will be a better place. Basically, I am having a problem where my kills are not being tracked in my logbook, or in the campaign screen. I have flown about 8 campaign missions now and my mission count reflects this, but shows no kills whatsoever. I read that running as admin might help, but I use Windows XP. Any help in resolving this (albeit minor) issue would be appreciated. Thank you. Itkovian

This is very strange indeed. That said, I am running this on XP, so I don't think running as admin applies in this case. Also, my mission counts is still there, but not the kills. So if I go to the campaign menu it will show 8 missions flown, and it will take me to my next mission, but the kills all say 0 (both on the campaign selection screen and my logbook). Itkovian

Very well, thank you. Itkovian

Kill tally? Salutations. I just recently noticed that there seems to be a problem with the kill tally, at least in my case. I've flown about 6 deployment campaign missions so far, getting numerous kills, yet my tally reads 0 air to air and 0 air to ground. Is this a common issue, or am I missing something? Thank you. My theory was that the ones attacking from the hillside must be the insurgents, with the russians holding position in the village. Turns out it was correct, though only found out once I flew close enough to visually ID targets... when they shot me down. :) Thank you. Itkovian P.S. I love the pressure on startup for this mission. I insist on using manually startups, and it makes for a great mission. My first try I was a little slow and had to take off as mortar rounds were falling on the FARP. I fear my wingman didn't make it.

I once banged up that system firing at the shooting range... was focusing on HMS target practice when I realized I was hurtling towards the ground (though not in vortex). Pulled the collective just in time to minimize the impact and gain altitude.... and then the autopilot was going haywire and I had to switch on the Flight Director, and sure enough EKRON showed that very error. It was rather embarrassing, but a great demonstration of the depth of this sim. :) Itkovian

My instinct is to help out, though admittedly I'm not military. :) If I could just take a minute to hover a bit and hose down the assailants, it wouldn't be such a bad thing. :) Is there more to the mission when you get to the FARP? Itkovian
-
So you left that unit on its own and just flew past them? I know I'd rather help them out and take out the APCs attacking them. Too bad you can't have some flares loaded at the FARP. :) As for what they're asking for, I don't know either. I imagine it is some sort of air support (with thermal imaging *grin*). Itkovian

Wags' New "Oil War" Campaign
Itkovian replied to ericinexile's topic in User Created Missions General
So, as I understand it, I should replace the current Georgian Oil War campaign with the one in the files section? How do I do so? Also, I was wondering: what is the difference between the GOW campaign and the Oil War 1-2-3 campaigns? Are they different, or is it the main campaign split up in various parts? Itkovian -
I'll have to take a closer look then... maybe go into auto-hover for a bit and try to spot them like that, while out of range (going to have to use cannons though, I have no weapons loaded). Itkovian

Salutations. I am currently going through the Deployment campaign and am having a bit of a bother with the Alarm! mission, where you must scramble at night and fly to a different airfield. Specifically, roughly halfway through to the next airfield you fly over a russian position under fire. My natural instinct is to help them, but that's where I run into trouble. Is there a way to still use the Skhval (pardon the spelling, if incorrect) at night, for example by spotting the tracers? In my first two attempts I tried to use gunsight mode by got shot down as I got too close, though my wingman did rather better. Any assistance would be appreciated. :) Thank you. Itkovian
-
Aye, that would be me. :) The more sims the better. :) Itkovian

Hum, strange. Maybe I had the cannon in gunsight mode by mistake. Will have to check on that. :) Thank you. Itkovian

Good day, I was going through the Firing Range mission last night, and had taken my time messing around with the systems before taking off, so that by the time I made it to the range it was getting rather dark and the Skhval would not pick up targets anymore (I imagine because the contrast between Dark target and Slightly Less Dark background was not good enough for the system). I was however able to fire the Vikhrs manually, but was wondering if it was possible to manually aim the cannon as well? Whenever I would arm the cannon it would just go boresight and I could not figure out how to move it. Thank you. Itkovian

I just got mine today, ordered from ED on the 27th or so, delivered to VT, USA. I can attest to their speedy delivery and quality packaging. :) Very nice quality, and I am very happy with the purchase. :) Itkovian

So the basic TrackIR reflectors can't be mounted on the headset, and must go on a ballcap/visor? I guess I'll go for the pro package then. The only hats I wear are Proper hats. :) Itkovian

Nothing special. Joystick, Keyboard, Mouse, Rudder Pedals (which I need to unplug to get the printer on *grin*). Simming is better with a normal keyboard and mouse. :) So a hub will be useful either way, but is a definite must for TrackIR. Itkovian

Thank you, the recommendation to go to powered is an important one. :) Itkovian

Hi there. I'm starting to become sorely tempted to purchase TrackIR (in the next few months), but to use it I will need to get a USB hub (I play on a laptop, and its 4 USB ports are already taken *grin*), and was wondering if anyone had any issues with using TrackIR with hubs when blacking DCS. Plus, if anyone has any recommendations on a good USB hub to get, I would appreciate any guidance. I know this is somewhat off-topic, but DCS is the game that's making me want this. :) Also, is there any performance degradation when using TrackIR with DCS? Thank you. Itkovian

Ah ah! Got it! The realisation that this was the default camera position for all missions led me to try out zooming out and use "save cockpit angle", which seems to have resolved the situation. Thank you. :) Itkovian
-
No, but I don't think that would help. The game itself works fine, it's the in-cockpit camera that is zoomed in more than the training mission anticipates, but I can't fix it without taking control of the mission, in which case the training is no longer going on, which rather defeats the purpose. I think the problem is that I somehow messed up my default camera view, so that it is more zoomed in than it should be. For example, whenever I start a mission, ANY mission, the camera is zoomed in so that the top edge of the HUD is at the top of the screen, the bottom of the Shkval TV is at the bottom edge of the screen, and the lamps test button and SADI are at the left and right edges of the screen. So somehow my default camera position/zoom level got messed up, and I need to reset it. Itkovian
-
Right, I figured I must have messed something up. I don't have track IR, however, but I figured I msut have messed something up with the camera, but can't for the life of me figure out what. I'll try what you wrote, but if anyone has any other suggestion, I would appreciate it. Itkovian
-
Anyone? I'd love to watch those training imssions, but right now it simply doesn't work. Maybe I messed up some sort of default camera setting, but I don't know how to reset it. Itkovian
-
No, I am not talking of videos, but rather the training missions in the game (which you can take control of). These missions have narration and start off with the computer in control of cursor and camera... the problem is the camera is too zoomed in and so I don't see anything the mission is trying to show me (in this case, I only see the top left corner of the ABRIS screen because the camera is zoomed in too much).
