  1. Now, what's so bad about a Hornet or Superhornet? I seriously doubt any properly modeled modern aircraft would be disagreeable in a DCS sim. And carrier ops would be quite interesting. I just hope they move to another theatre eventually, or perhaps widen the current theatre (imagine, the entire black sea, for example). Itkovian
  2. Aye, they have a good philosophy going concerning single-seaters, they wouldn't violate it. It would have to be one of those three.... but even the Superhornet is dubious. Isn't one of the pre-requisites that they have extensive access to aircraft systems and data? Not that I would be adverse to a nice simulation of pitching-deck night traps, mind you. :) Itkovian
  3. Since I live within constant earshot of the Green Mountain Boys here in Vermont, I'd certainly be partial to a new Viper sim. I mean, F4 AF is excellent, but shows its age. And really, it's hard to beat the F-16 for aesthetics. With the Viper and the Hog, DCS can boast about having the full range of fixed-wing attractiveness. :) Itkovian
  4. *makes a note for when HOTAS comes in* I'm a bit surprised there's something on the HOTAS that isn't used in DCS, mind you. Is it something that exists in the Hog but isn't modeled in the sim, or an extra slider they added because they had room? Itkovian
  5. Oh, I don't doubt that. My question was more why it is even needed on the stick in the first place. It's not like you'd need to switch lights on and off quickly in any situation that requires you to keep both hands on the HOTAS. :) I'm just wondering at the ergonomics of the design, basically. Not that I'm actually complaining or anything, it was only a stray thought that I decided to share. :) Itkovian
  6. True, but one would assume you'd want the controls that are urgently needed mapped to the stick. When do you need to rapidly turn those lights on and off, that reaching over to flip a switch would be so egrerious? Not that I pretend to fully understand their logic, mind you. I'm sure some ergonomics experts were involved or some such. In any case, at least that answers that question. Can't wait to get my HOTAS (should be a couple of weeks now). Itkovian
  7. Aaah, that would be why the anti-collision switch kept flipping itself to off, then. Good to know. Strange that they would think external lights were important enough to take up real estate on the HOTAS, isn't it? Thank you. Itkovian
  8. Right, that makes sense. What threw me off is that the force feedback stick gets force-centered a little to the right. That's probably the sim modeling the uneven load using force feedback. When on the ground it centers properly. Quite a subtle effect, I must admit. In any case, I just ordered my HOTAS Warthog, so that should not be an issue. Now I have another Nugget Question: Just how do you turn on maneuvering/position lights? I fiddled with the switches on the right console (that also include instrument lights, which worked fine), but I could never get the external lights to work (except the tail light, which was on by default). Is there some special setting I need ot be able to turn those on, as well as the green strip lights? This was in the take-off training mission, incidentally. Thank you. Itkovian
  9. Well I don't have the TM Warthog yet, using a MSFFB for now. I wasn't going to order the HOTAS without making sure the sim was working first. :) As for the trimming issue, well CTRL-ENTER is showing the stick at the center position, and yet the A/C rolls to the right. I'm guessing it has to be that the A/C needs some trimming. Thank you. Itkovian
  10. Salutations, I finally took the plunge this evening, and downloaded/installed A-10C, and I must say I am quite impressed. It definitely builds upon Black Shark and takes things to a higher level. That said, for now all I've done is the startup training and do some random landscaping in instant action mission (those Warthog-shaped furrows are quite feng-shui, if you ask me), and for now I am working having the manual printed and obtaining the HOTAS Warthog (neither of which was wise to do before ensuring the sim actually worked on my PC *grin*). As such, I do have a couple of questions: - How does the HOTAS Warthog integration go? Do I simply unplug my old stick, plug in the HOTAS, and when I load the game the controls will be set? - This is probably just a trimming issue, but is it normal that the 'hog wants to roll to the right all the time? I am guessing it is due to take-off trim or some such, and I do not (yet) know how to set trim, but I just want to make sure it is not due to some strange control issue. And that is all for now. I am thoroughly impressed, and I certainly appreciate the more interactive training missions. :) Thank you. Itkovian
  11. Ah, excellent then, thank you. Itkovian
  12. And do you simply copy/paste those files back in the new version's directory for it to detect them? Itkovian
  13. ... you mean the uninstall process? If I don't back up my profiles before I uninstall then it won't help during the install of the new software, right? Itkovian
  14. Very well, thank you. How do I save my custom profiles anyway? (only got 1, for BoB2, I'm not one for fiddling with such) Itkovian
  15. Salutations, I recall Track IR reportedly not working on 64-bit systems. Has this been fixed in Track IR's 5.1 software version? And a minor technical question: would I need to uninstall my current TIR software, or does it update properly? Thank you. Itkovian
  16. Thank you. Itkovian
  17. Aye, I want the Warthog with a passion. I just need to ensure I can get the manual printed properly, and also a good stretch of time to really immerse myself in the sim. Does anyone know if the final manual can be downloaded before purchase? I have the beta one (forgot its password, mind you). Itkovian
  18. I'd rather stick to manuals and single player, quite frankly (my playtime makes online play difficult). As for the rest, well the whole reason for my post is to ask if anyone found good solutions to those questions already. :) Itkovian
  19. Ah, thank you. It's a start. :) Itkovian
  20. Salutations. I will be buying A-10C soon I hope, and I have a questions I would like to ask first: 1- Does anyone know where to get a good price on the HOTAS Warthog? Getting it is one of my pre-requisites before purchasing the game (I want the full experience *grin*). 2- Has there been any news about a printed manual? I waited for DCS to publish theirs before buying Black Shark, and I might do the same for A-10C. Unless.. 3- Does anyone know of a good solution for getting the manual printed in the US? I've read posts about having it printed from some websites, but prices were in euros so I imagine there are better options for the US. 4- I heard mention of tutorials and training documents written by posters here, but can't find them on the forum (they're not listed in the appropriate sticky post, for example). Anybody know where I might find those? Thank you. Itkovian
  21. Broody herr... that's brilliant. I don't have the sim yet, but how exactly does this work? There's a button that copies the briefing to the clipboard, so you can just paste it in an email? Can this be done in Black Shark too? *glee* Itkovian
  22. Excellent news. I will await the manual then. Hopefully by then I'll be able to afford the HOTAS Warthog as well, and get the game/manual/hotas in one fell swoop. :) Itkovian
  23. Salutations. Are there any plans to offer the printed DCS: A-10C manual like with DCS Black Shark? What prompted me to buy Black Shark (finally) was when the printed manual was released, and I am hoping the same will happen with A-10C. So, are there any plans? I'll probably wait a bit before purchasing A-10C anyway, waiting until a patch comes out and until I can afford to purchase the Warthog HOTAS (somehow I don't think playing it with a MS FFB2 and no throttle would be anywhere near as enjoyable). But a printed manual would definitely make me spring for it (heck, I'm liable to buy the manual first *grin*). Anyway, thank you, and I look forward to playing the sim (because no matter what, I _will_ purchase it in the next few months). Itkovian
  24. What's the max magnification for the LITENING? Either way, Shval does not have IR camera, and so is at a major disadvantage by default. Itkovian
  25. More questions - has anyone had any issue uninstalling the game? - Also, do you still need to install directx 9 to get the new beta working right (sound and such)? - And finally, if you do need to install Dx9, does it set your computer back to Dx9, or does it simply add another library games can use (so games using Dx10 still work, or would I have to reinstall Dx10 to play them?). Thank you. Yan
