  1. Is there a way to see the frequencies for all airfields without diverting there? For example, in the Free Flight mission the briefing does not list the tower frequency (or any other), which makes it difficult to radio for startup/taxi/takeoff. I end up having to set a divert to the airport before I even take off. :) Itkovian
  2. Aaah, -3 on pitch ladder... that'll help. I knew to keep it on touchdown point, though wasn't what the proper pitch was. And as I recall, from my F4 days, when on final you control speed with the stick, and position on the glideslope with the throttle, right? It's been a while since I landed a fixed wing jet (I've mostly been flying the Black Shark or Spitfires lately). :) My landings have been safe so far (no damage, tires fine, etc.), but I know they are hardly professional, so those pointers are useful. :) That said, one reason an ILS HUD repeater would be great is when landing in 0 vis, IFR.... though granted I guess at that point I should be flying heads down anyway and landing by the needles. 3. Yup, it was stowed by default. That helps then. :) Another question, then: is there any mode where the ILS info is repeated on the HUD? It seems rather inconvenient to go heads down just to watch the ILS when there's a perfectly good HUD available. :) Itkovian
  4. ILS was turned on, and it was selected behind the stick. I will check if it was stowed. It was the "Free Flight - Ramp Start" mission, to be exact. Itkovian
  5. Salutations. I just did a random flight, flying from Sukumi (pardon the spelling) and then diverting to Sochi (I believe that's what it was... it had no TCN station, but it did have ILS) to do a bit of practice landing in light fog. Everytihng was going well, the ILS was set to the proper frequency, and I had switched NAV mode to ILS (on the panel behind the stick, pardon the lack of technical terminology). The HSI was responding properly as was the glideslope "notch" to the right of the ADI, but as I was coming in to runway 60 I realized the yellow "bars" that sweep across the ADI were not showing. So I was wondering: did I miss something that caused them to stay tucked away? Do they only show when there is a TACAN signal? I landed without difficulty, but I am rather perplexed by this. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you. Itkovian
  6. Salutations. I am having a bit of a difficulty with my new HOTAS Warthog. Namely, I set the throttle LEDs in TARGET so that they are all off except for on by the friction wheel, but whenever I reboot my machine these settings seem to be forgotten and reset to the default. Is there something I am forgetting? Is there a way to save these LED settings (I might be confused because it does not seem that this setting is not part of a configuration)? Thank you for your assistance. Itkovian
  7. I think one of the best hints to learning your way around the avionics is learning what the symbols by the FSKs mean. Things like the pointing arrow takes you to another menu, the circle means to activate a function (like in this case, switching the CDU into NAV mode), and so forth. Once you get those, the logic of the CDU and other displays start making a lot more sense. Then its more a question of learning what each option actually does. :) Itkovian
  8. Serial Number: 00429 Location: Vermont, USA
  9. Allright, I willl install target. I have the drivers and the firmware updated. All is well in DCS, and I wasn't thinking of installing target since I don't really need it... but if it helps I will. Itkovian
  10. I just got my own HOTAS Warthog, its sitting right there on the floor besides me (at work for now), and of course this is when I find out about this thread. :) So I was wondering: does anyone have any idea what might be causing this, and what seems to be a remedy? Also, how do I register my HOTAS with TM? I went to the website and I "registered" it but didn't even need to enter a serial number, which is rather strange. So if you don't even register your unit with TM, how do you get support from them (for an RMA, for example)? Thank you. Itkovian
  11. I had the flight printed in a 2 page per sheet format... duplexing as well, so in the end it only took something like 140 sheets total. Quite manageable when ringbound. Itkovian
  12. Hum, I printed the checklist and was practicing it just now (waiting until I get my HOTAS to actually start flying), and I did hit something of a snag: I get to step 24 of the After Engine Start checklist, and EAC won't arm (the switch flips back to off). I checked the flight manual, and from what I can tell I have all the proper systems on (SAS switches on, for example). Am I missing anything? Thank you. Itkovian [Edit: Never mind, turns out I wasn't giving EGI time to align itself. For some reason I thought the moment the CDU allowed you to set it in NAV mode meant it was fully aligned. Obviously that was not the case. :)]
  13. Thank you, got it printed now. :) Itkovian
  14. Hog_Driver, just which document is that anyway? I looked for it on the wiki, but couldn't find it. I already have the mission sheet and 9-line callsheet laminated (along with the HOTAS and default keyboard reference), but not that one... Thank you. Itkovian
  15. By all means, praise ED. But don't go and put down other sims. Simming is NOT a genre that can afford having its own fans preying on its developers. Better to encourage more dev houses to participate, than discourage the already existing ones from persisting in a very narrow niche genre. Just my two cents. Thank you. Itkovian
  16. Very well, thank you. And can the throttle be used independently, or must it always be used with the stick plugged in? Itkovian
  17. Salutations. I've got my HOTAS Warthog coming in next week, and I want to make sure everthing is ready to minimize any hassle when I finally get to install it, and so have some questions: 1- Does the throttle plug into the PC directly, or does it plug in the stick which then plugs into the PC (or vice versa)? I ask because I will likely shuffle my USB plug around so I can easily swap my MSFFB2 stick (for WW2 and DCS Black Shark, where I find Force Feedback to be indispensable), and it'd be nice if I can keep using the throttle (not that I'm hopeful). Either way, I'd like to know in advance to fix up my wiring properly. 2- Just where is that friction wheel that isn't mapped in A-10C? The one people recommend should be used for zooming. 3- Are there any patches or software updates from TM I should download and install before plugging in the HOTAS, or is the software included in the package sufficient? Thank you. Itkovian
  18. Excellent post, Effte. Thank you for the detailed explanation. It's a shame the HOTAS Warthog isn't Force Feedback, as it would make for a more accurate while trimming (though it wouldn't be as much of an advantage as it is in Black Shark). Itkovian
  19. I assume you guys are talking of human wingmen, right? Or is such a scenario even possible with AI wingies? Itkovian
  20. Hum... so is it the actuation of the stick that moves the control surfaces.. or is it the actuation of the surfaces that causes the stick to move (I'm assuming here the Hog isn't FBW)? Either way, yes... you trim pitch for speed, throttle for altitude, is how it goes as I recall. :) Stupid physics, so much simpler to shove that throttle forward to go faster, and pull up to climb. :) Itkovian
  21. So trim actually changes stick centering position? I always thought it simply actuated the trim tabs on the control surfaces, while the stick moves the entire control surface. ... or perhaps only the rudder has trim tabs? Itkovian
  22. Very well, thank you. Just what does the microstick do anyway? Slewing TGP and such? Itkovian
  23. So, my Warthog should be getting in this Friday. Any hints on what preparations/setting up I should make? I assume I've got to remove my old stick, install the software, then plug in the new one... and then if I fire up A-10C everything should be hopefully configured fine, right? Mind you, I'll make sure the axes are fine. My plan for config so far are to: 1- Soften up the X and Y axes on the stick. 2- Map the unused friction wheel on the stick to zoom. Is there anything else resident experts would recommend? Itkovian
  24. YES! You've hit the nail on the head! At last, there is certainty in my life. :) Itkovian
  25. Firstly, thank you for spelling it "sinning" in there. The Freud in me appreciates it. :) Secondly, I certainly think ED is the premier simulation house out there (and really, it's the only modern A/C dev house anyway... everything is period hardware). In any case, I'll be happy with a new Viper or a Superbug (or just the Hornet, really... then I can pretend I'm flying a CF-188...). Itkovian
