stupid wingmen and way to hard campaign missions
Itkovian replied to Nickhawk's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I've only flown the first 3 deployment campaign missions in 1.02 (had almost completed it in 1.01 when I took a year-long hiatus from the sim), but I'm happy to say that using the normal non-datalink options the AI does take action (though I've taken to go in the mission planner before taking off, as per the thread in the bug forum). I've used the "attack ground targets" and "attack my target" successfully in both cases (the last 2 mission, first one has no enemies). Itkovian -
*blink* I don't think I've ever noticed that. I'll have to look tonight. Itkovian Edit: Broody herr, I never knew about the mission planner. Yet there it is. Oops. :)

Mission planner? How is that accessed?

I'm not sure if I understand, language barrier and all. Can you give a step-by-step instruction to your fix? Itkovian

Had a friend who applied a while ago for flying positions. From his research and groups he visited, it apparently helps a lot to have connections. :) I'm not surprised, mind you, there's so little demand, and eventually when you reach the top level applicants you start looking for "other things" that sets them apart. :) Itkovian

Interesting. I always thought this occurred because I didn't disconnect ground power and just took off. It's just that if you're not tuned in to ground crew, you won't hear him complain as you rip away the cables. :) Itkovian

Allright, there I gotta say something: How can this guy say that TIE Fighter was so innovative, when basically all the features he mentions are in X-Wing? Gah! TIE-Fighter was basically an evolution of X-Wing, with more refined features. But ultimately X-Wing was the true innovator. Itkovian P.S. Not a geek. *cough*

I rather like it, personally. We are in a russian helo, after all. Itkovian

This campaign certain sounds interesting. :) I will make sure to check it out once 1.1 is out. Any ETA on it yet? Thank you. Itkovian

Allright then, I'm back up to 1.0.2. :) A question about the "attack my target" command: How is "my target" determined? I'm guessing it is determined by what you have locked on with the Shkval, but I'm like confirmation. :) Also, when you use attack my target, does the wingman/wingmen just attack that specific target and then reform, or do they continue attacking similar targets in that area? And another question: When you order them to attack ground targets, will they attack every ground target in sight, or are there some restrictions involved? Finally, a question about campaigns: Does anyone know a good single player campaign I should try? Or should I just stick with the Deployment and Georgian Oil War campaigns? Thank you. :) Itkovian

Well, my issue is I'd then have to uninstall and re-install, since 1.02 needs a clean install. Given that I already installed 1.2, reverted it, then installed 1.01c, it's getting annoying. :) Is there an easy way to backup my control setup? Itkovian
-
*Grumble* So I didn't have to rollback? Well, I'll stick with 1.01c for now, I don't do multiplayer anyway. Still, good to know that "ttack ground targets" works fine. I've used both before, I think, and as I recall the proper way to play it is to take care of AA threats yourself, and then have your wingmen attack. That said, how good is the AI in 1.0? And what am I giving up that's important if I go back to 1.0? Thank you for the info. Itkovian
-
Well, In just uninstalled 1.02 and installed 1.01c. Everything seems to be working well. By now, I hope the AI really IS borked in 1.02. :) Itkovian
-
Well, anyway. I think given this I will reinstall with 1.01c, unless someone tells me all these replies were a prank. :) That said, if I uninstall/reinstall on the same machine, will it cost me one of my activations/deactivations? OR, can I just use the "uninstall patch 1.02" feature, and then install 1.01c on top? Itkovian
-
Hum, well that's dissapointing. What is the solution then? uninstalling and re-installing with 1.01c? Because I do remember the AI wingmen actually working in 1.01a (the patch I had at the tiem). You just had to manage them tightly with the datalink, and keep in mind that they would often rush in when attacking (so you had to make sure the anti air defenses were dealt with beforehand). But when employed with that in mind (don't send them in a AAA nest), they did their job rather well. Are the single player missions even feasible without functional wingmen? I recall some of the deployment campaign missions requiring you to hit a number of targets that you couldn't possibly destroy with your own ammo. Anyway, I guess I'll have to uninstall and re-install and play with 1.01c, assuming wingmen AI wasn't broken between 1.01a and 1.01c. Thank you. Itkovian

Salutations. I am returning to Black Shark after about a year's hiatus, and I was wondering if any work was done on wingman AI in 1.2? I have fond memories of my wingmen, from the last time I flew. :) That said, regardless of the answer, can anyone point me to some good posts on how to properly handle wingmen in single player campaigns? Thank you. Itkovian

While I would prefer colour, I would prefer having a printed manual at all even more. :) So if black and white it must be, then I'll be fine with it. But certainly, if there is a chance we can have it in colour, I'd definitely order it. Itkovian

I would definitely buy one. Itkovian

Nice to see Dassault getting some good exports. Excellent news. Itkovian

There are 3 wingmen for this mission, and I believe that should be enough. If you use datalink and set up the proper target groups and assign them, it should be doable. The problem I had is the last time I played it last night two of my wingmen couldn't make it above the mountain and were stuck there (didn't realise it until I got to the ingress point). Mind you, that was moot since I got shot down by the incoming bandits (couldn't located the Hinds at all... looks like I need to turn on aircraft labels *grin*). Edit: Ah, my apologies, the previous poster talking about using wingmen fully was talking about the Dusk mission. Itkovian

Regardless of the argument the authors are making, their very description of the WW2 situation shows a very skewed (dare I say "biased") view of history, which makes their later historical accounts potentially just as dubious. Though my own knowledge is mostly confined to WW2 aviation, if they get things so wrong for WW2 and spin its history in their favour so much, then it is not unwise to assume they do the same for later periods. In short, their premise is wrong and downright suspicious, which invalidates their conclusions in my opinion. That's not to say they are necessarily wrong (though I agree with previous posters on that), but they twist the facts to fit their vision, which invalidates any credibility they might have had. Ah, I see then, very well, thank you. Itkovian

Salutations. I believe I read it is possible to set the Shkval to track and scan an area automatically, but I've never managed to make it happen intentionally (I've seen it scan, but not sure how I did it). Therefore, I must ask yet another question :) : How do you set the Shkval to scan and track automaticaly, and under which conditions does it work? To clarify, I mean that the camera moves on its own looking for targets to lock onto. Thank you. Itkovian

Ah, I believe I found it. Hard to find the proper answer in all the noise about running as admin. Turns out it is nationality. Need to set my pilot as Russian (not a problem). Slight question though: will changing nationality reset my campaign? Itkovian
